Am I the Only Person Who Likes the Stealth Genre?

    Assassin's Creed
    Hitman
    Metal Gear
    Splinter Cell

    umm ....

Really? That's it? I did some sleuthing on the subject, and while there are some more titles out there, most of them are old and for PC, and there doesn't seem to be anything on the horizon. "Hitman 5" has been a "working title" for like four years already, and there's no evidence it's even going to come out. The Splinter Cell series, it seems, is now a 360 exclusive. There's a new title called Velvet Assassin coming out, but it's also a 360 exclusive. No new Metal Gear for years, I suspect.

This is my favorite genre, and there is NOTHING.

Am I just some weirdo? How are there not more games for this genre? 85 FPS's per year, and not one stealth game? I don't ask for much. I'm just talking two or three more franchises, ya know, so maybe I can have one per year. wtf.

Yeah you're the only one. No one else likes those titles, which is why they've all only sold 1 copy each. You're extremely weird.

Well that's exactly the point - the games that have come out have all done well: where's all the copycats?

And then I'm reading about how Uncharted 2 will have "stealth elements," and I see this:

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is not an MGS-like stealth game, says game director Bruce Straley, who promises it's "to simply flesh out our enemy AI".

"Action-stealth is meant to simply flesh out our enemy AI - we're not suddenly creating a stealth game as we've seen misinterpreted," Straley told CVG in a huge exclusive interview.

He goes on the explain: "We don't want to introduce the frustration of being forced to move at the game's (presumably slower) pace by replaying and replaying a set-up due to failing a stealth-heavy situation.
As though he was actually moved to defend the decision.

      And ....

This is where that much dreaded "stealth" portions of Uncharted 2 begin to present themselves.
      Again, wtf.

I'd say stealth situations have a negative stigmatism because they get thrown into games that don't need them.

Like Champions: Return to Arms is a dungeon crawler but for some reason the developers decide to send you running through a cave with monsters that one hit kill you so you have to sneak around them to the exit. Frustrating experience till I started abusing the gate scroll system.

Yeah, or that stealth mission in GTA: San Andreas with the rapper. I hear that.

Was that where you break into the other rapper's house to steal his lyrics or something? I think I ran through that part with the samurai sword out.

Love the stealth genre and all those games (especially MGS and Hitman). Doesn't the new Batman game have some stealth elements to it?

Yes, that game looks pure stealth based on the videos.

I love stealth games as well but this generation is really lackluster in that genre. One Hitman game and one Splinter Cell game. Fortunately Assassin's Creed was out.

"Mad Dog's Rhymes" misssion? You have to steal the guy's lyrics for OG Locke.

I always liked these kinds of games, starting with Tenchu back on PS. Well, and Metal Gear Solid. But Tenchu was always my favorite because there's nothing cooler than grappling up to a roof only to run across and jump down the other side to kill some poor bastard by stabbing him through the top of his head.. then throwing a smoke grenade and taking off. I also like all the funny weapons like poisoned rice... those guard dogs love them some poisoned rice.

Getting through an entire level unnoticed was always an achievement.

I like the Splinter Cell series, I own all of them. wasn't a huge fan of Assassins Creed though.

I played most of the Metal Gear games, not a huge fan of the series, but liked the first Metal Gear Solid title.

I love the stealth genre, though I haven't played MGS on PS3. I haven't really played any of the series, and haven't been in the mood for the half hour cutscenes I've heard about.
