HELP!?!?!?!?! HDTV question

Well...my parents decided to get a TV without me. I just arrived at my house and BAM there it was. There was a huge sale at Futureshop and they bought a Panasonic PT53WX52 53" Widescreen Television.

My question is: will I be able to play videogames on it without killing the picture tube? I already have a 32 inch TV in my room and I'll only be playing it (the new TV) when friends come over so we can play multi-player games.

I called Futureshop back to asked them and they said yes it's fine for playing videogames. Just for clairification I called another store and the salesperson said they he wouldn't recommend it becasue it will burn out the picture tube even with S-video/monster cables. I don't know who to believe

Here's some info on the website:

I have last years model sitting in storage <sigh>

Its great for playing widescreen games. Just be very careful using the TV in 4:3 mode as doing anything in that mode will cause burn in.(like any projection TV).

I also played GTA on it.. which you know had some static images.. I would play for maybe an hour at most then take a break and watching something on TV. I never had any problems with it.

I hope to get my tv back soon. I miss it!

My parents have a HDTV and I hooked up my Xbox to it, and it was gorgeous. What I was told was that as long as you don't let images sit on the screen for long amounts of time, you should be ok. The new TV's are much better at not having "burn-in", but I've seen it happen.

Like everything in life, it should be ok in moderation.

Yeah, remember, I'm only gonna be playing it when friends come over and wanna play like Halo or something. That occurs like once a week or something.

It really should be fine. But I'd let the TV have a little break if you plan on having 2-3 hour Halo sessions. Just to make sure that any static images don't have the chance to burn. Again, just precautionary.

Nivek don't worry about it. Never heard of anything about this problem. Btw, I too was looking at this HDTV. How much you pay for it and is it any good? Good to see you went with a HDTV.

                            Thanks Peter!

It was $2599.99 + my dad's stubborness (10% discount) + 15% tax it came up to like $2690.99 I'm not sure if they had to pay extra for delivery. I was amazed at the price they got it for.

Also, starting tomorrow they have a BIG SALE on the gamecube. You get the system (any colour) + Zelda: WW and Resident Evil Zero for 227.97! I'm gonna go buy my fourth GC now, to hell with the price drop.
