Halo Reach will be completely different. This has been teased on Bungie's podcast when they were talking about the 3 projects they have in development. They said besides ODST, one game is familiar (Halo Reach) and other (New IP) isn't , but both are radically different from what their fans have come to expect.

Re: Halo: Reach
It could be since the missions in the book were based on Spartan teams. I believe it was four to a team while having two other teams doing different objectives on the same mission.
If they decide to change it up, this could be amazing.
However, will Bungie change something which works amazing financially?Halo Reach will be completely different. Sounds kinda like it could be similar (in theory, not control) to the original Rainbow Six on PC (that makes me feel old) where you had 2 squads you could flip between. That type of gameplay, especially online, could be awesome.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Halo: Reach
Why have none of you played Star Wars Republic Commando? It's one of the best squad shooters on the original Xbox.
It is you and 3 other commandos during the clone wars and you give them commands on the fly a la Rainbow 6 but a bit more streamlined.
Plus it had one of the greatest HUDs in gaming.Comment

I hope you can play as (you know who from the book) so I can hang from a chain with one hand and snipe with the other hand. One of the biggest badass moments I have read. You people who have read the books know what I am talking about.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os

Re: Halo: Reach
Halo: Reach is an FPS
Actually, Microsoft's John Schappert told us "Of course it's an FPS," which seemed a little cheeky from a company that recently released a Halo RTS.
In Halo: Reach, the blockbuster prequel to the Halo trilogy, experience the events that transpired on the planet Reach. Created by acclaimed developer Bungie, Halo: Reach will be available in the fall of 2010 exclusively on Xbox 360. As a bonus for Halo fans, Halo 3: ODST will be the key to entry for the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta coming to Xbox LIVE.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Halo: Reach
So an FPS, I am still hoping that its squad based though, maybe something like a little mash up of rainbow six, ghost recon, and the halo that we know.Comment

Re: Halo: Reach
For those who havent read the book. Plot of it is in the Spoiler Tag.
Spoiler
Plot
The novel opens with the civilian Dr. Catherine Halsey and Lieutenant Jacob Keyes traveling to meet John, a six-year-old boy. Dr. Halsey reveals to Keyes that John is one of 150 children who possess rare genetic markers making them suitable for conscription into the SPARTAN-II program, a secret experiment with the aim of creating super soldiers for the UNSC to quell rebellions.[6] Seventy-five of the children are kidnapped by operatives of the Office of Naval Intelligence and replaced by clones engineered to die of natural causes shortly after. From this point on, the recruits are known only by their first name and a three digit number. John-117 and the rest of the children are drilled and trained by Franklin Mendez and John demonstrates leadership of his fellow Spartans leading to his promotion to squad leader. In 2525, the Spartans undergo a series of surgical enhancements which turn them into highly efficient super soldiers at the cost of crippling or killing more than half of the original seventy-five.[7] The Spartans are also equipped with powerful MJOLNIR battle armor, designed to respond as quickly as the soldier's thoughts. John-117 is given the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.[8] The Spartans are highly successful, but they experience a priority shift after a collective of alien races known as the Covenant begin obliterating human colonies, declaring humanity's destruction as the will of the gods. Mendez leaves the group to train the next generation of Spartans as John and his comrades first face the Covenant.[9]
By 2552, the war against the Covenant is going poorly. The technological superiority of the Covenant means that space battles heavily favor the Covenant, and the UNSC can only win engagements by suffering tremendous losses. To prevent the discovery of Earth or other human colonies, Vice Admiral Cole creates the "Cole Protocol", which forbids direct slipspace jumps to Earth and mandates the destruction of a ship before it can be captured by the Covenant. Jacob Keyes, now commander of the destroyer Iroquois, discovers four Covenant ships arriving at the Sigma Octanus System, and single-handedly destroys three of them; his heroics earn Keyes the rank of Captain. The Covenant proceed to overrun Sigma Octanus IV, searching for a mysterious ancient artifact. Despite a costly fight, the humans manage to repel the Covenant, and Keyes intercepts a coded Covenant transmission from the surface before the Covenant retreat.[10] The Iroquois heads to Reach, unwittingly bringing a Covenant tracking device with it.[11]
Soon after, Keyes is given the command of the UNSC cruiser Pillar of Autumn for a secret mission; the Spartans are to capture one of the Covenant's religious leaders, a Prophet, and barter a truce.[12] Dr. Halsey also introduces John to the artificial intelligence Cortana, who would assist the Spartans by residing in their MJOLNIR armor.[13] Before the mission can begin, however, Reach is attacked by a massive Covenant fleet. John and Cortana reach the Pillar of Autumn, but most of the other Spartans are presumed killed as the Covenant vitrify the surface of Reach, turning the landmasses into glass.[14] Cortana initiates a slipspace course based on the ancient glyphs intercepted by the Covenant at Sigma Octanus, the course takes them to a massive ringworld known as Halo, setting the stage for the events of Halo: Combat Evolved.[15]PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os

Re: Halo: Reach
Halo Reach to use Natal?
It appears that Halo: Reach may be a warm-up exercise for Natal sales. Bungie Studio President Harold Ryan tells the Seattle Times that he "absolutely" thinks that Reach could use Microsoft's motion-sensing peripheral (provided both launched around the same time frame).
Let's take a look at why Project Natal + Halo makes sense:
- The Halo name has helped sell other iffy propositions like Halo Wars.
- The game is already called Reach, come on.
- This answers the question: "How is MS going to get core gamers to buy/upgrade to Natal?"
However, then we must ask: "Do core gamers want to actually exercise with their Halo?" This gamer's biggie-sized core politely responds, "As long as it involves fries and a shake after."Find in-depth gaming news and hands-on reviews of the latest video games, video consoles and accessories.
If it is used, I hope it can be turned off.Comment

Re: Halo: Reach
That joystig article is a bit misleading. The orginial interview in the Seattle Times basically said that there was a possiblity they could use it on Halo Reach and they were excited for the potential of Natal in the future.
If they use it in Reach, I seriously doubt its going to be used as a main controller for the core aspects of the game. Theres no way Bungie would do that.Comment

Re: Halo: Reach
I just thought of something. If this game is squad-based like a lot of people think it might be (Myself included), Natal could be used to give your AI squad commands in the campaign mode. That would be pretty cool.Comment

Re: Halo: Reach
Sheesh, talk about a sensationalist article. All Harold said was, "I absolutely think 'Reach' could be enabled with it".
Also, do people not know that Natal can be used in ways to enhance a game a long with using the 360 controller. This is something Microsoft mentioned during E3 that you will see. Somehow a game that may or will use Natal is automatically thought to be only a controller-free experience.

...
Halo games to this point have been pretty soft M rated games, but according to a Gamespot editor on their podcast, Halo Reach is going to be a very dark, grim, and violent game. Also, to be like a hybrid of Ghost Recon, Call of Duty, and Team Fortress.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Halo: Reach
I'm probably not going to be into all this motion stuff, but the best way for MS to try to force it on core gamers would be through a Bungie made Halo game.Comment
