The guy complains that this is a Band skin over GH5.........Activision is on a mission to milk this genre and kill whatever is left of it.

      Re: Band Hero

Because EA/MTV isn't contributing by filling shelves with "track packs" that have "3 month" exclusive songs and nothing else different - in fact most of the features taken away,RB Unplugged,an iPhone game and other stuff. Same ammount of stuff on the shelves with the RB name on it as the GH name. Maybe even more looking at the accessories. Then of course Lego RB just came out on the same day soooo....

Import is already up though it wasn't supposed to be until thursday. Only need the code, don't need the disc and it's imported through GH 5.

Seriously, you're counting the iPhone game? How many different Guitar Hero versions are there for mobile and handheld devices?

3 for the DS that I'm aware of.

Teamxbox review 8.4,apprently 0.1 better than RB Lego (they used the same reviewer): http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1801/Band-Hero/p1/

In some terrible news they've apprently censored "whiskey" in American Pie.

I'm anxiously awaiting a Guitar Hero: Christmas.

I mean, who doesn't want to rock out as Santa to nothing but christmas tunes?

Seriously though... I wouldn't be surprised

If I were the Rock Band or Guitar Hero people I'd definitely put out a DLC Christmas pack with a bunch of popular songs (if possible)...not sure how they translate to the game, but you'd sell a decent amount I think.

You know, I just saw the commercial for this... it's time to let go of the whole living room, in our boxers, Saved By The Bell nonsense. I mean seriously, that idea is now more overplayed than the ridiculous number of band games out there. It was kinda cute and funny the first time... now it makes me want to throw up.

I want to know why the hell Rivers was in the commercial when Weezer has no songs in this game.

Anyway No Doubt wants to sue now....

No Doubt says in a statement that the band "agreed to place avatars containing their name and likeness performing three No Doubt songs" but that Band Hero allows their use in more than 60 other songs, all without the group's knowledge or approval. (No Doubt's "Don't Speak" and "I'm Just A Girl" appear in the console versions of Band Hero, with "Excuse Me Mr." featured in the Nintendo DS version.)

Furthermore, individual band members can be "isolated into solo performances of these cover songs and placed randomly in countless variations."

According to No Doubt's claim, that goes against the contract it signed with Activision granting its likeness in Band Hero. It also contends that Activision refused to change the band's appearance beyond the agreed songs, saying that catering to No Doubt's request would be "too expensive."

Update: Activision has responded with the following statement: "Some of the world's most popular and iconic artists have been featured in Guitar Hero as playable characters, and we are proud to count No Doubt among them. Activision has a written agreement to use No Doubt in Band Hero – an agreement signed by No Doubt after extensive negotiations with its representatives, who collectively have decades of experience in the entertainment industry. Pursuant to that agreement, Activision worked with No Doubt and the band's management in developing Band Hero. As a result, Activision believes it is within its legal rights with respect to the use and portrayal of the band members in the game and that this lawsuit is without merit. Activision is exploring its own legal options with respect to No Doubt's obligations under the agreement."

Is Gwen's likeness in the game? I don't even know who they have in this game in terms of likeness besides Taylor Swift and the dude from Maroon 5.

                              Re: Band Hero

Rented the game tonight. It's a total money grab... there's no reason this needs to be its own game. The Lego Rock Band concept is hardly better, but at least there's some changes with the Lego tie-in. This is essentially GH5 with a new skin.

I will say that I actually do like a few of the features they've added since GHWT, especially the challenges for extra stars. Maybe if GH5 had had better songs, I'd have been inclined to give it a look. But since they have so many games, they are spreading their songs so thin and hardly supporting with DLC. Band Hero's the same way... it'll be fun to have as a rental for a few days but there's no way it has the replay value to keep me around if I made a purchase.

                                Re: Band Hero

I imported it into GH 5 and I think I have about the same ammount of songs as I do in RB now but didn't get Lego yet. Seems to have been a rather large failure with that here.

I'll just use the + - system for impressions...

+ Lots of spectacular venues/stlye. In particular Club La Noza and the Summer Park Festival those are two of the best venues to be in a game. Wish those exported to GH 5,I'd even buy those 2 as DLC. I also remember at the end of GH Aerosmith they had that space station in the video and it wasn't an in-game thing but it is now. That one is pretty neat too. Then there's Monteraux, too bad Smoke on the Water still doesn't export from SH.

                                - Vocals are just as awful as they were in GH 5,maybe even worse again. The whole vocal engine needs to be scrapped and done over,Karaoke Revolution and RB get it right. Not much new in outfits and stuff either. Might be some missing even,I noticed the bikini top is gone for females, strange as there's a beach now where it'd actually be useful.

+ Some suprisingly fun songs. Only 2 that I flat out hated. Papa Roach and Jesse McCartney...and that doesn't even transfer. Yup that's right, even Like Whoa was actually decent on something.

                                - Challenges are still ridculous. Either scale them to difficulty or provide an alternate way to unlock things (might be cheat this time,no one found them yet) because this just doesn't do. I was even more against it after having restarted Honky Tonk Woman 3 times trying to do its drum challenge and I finally get it down,FC it on medium (what I play drums on) and it's like 24 notes short of the unlock. Then there's something like the challenge on Kids that wants a bunch of upstrums on a song that's nearly all HO/PO in the main groove. Didn't check if they're doable on beginner in this, they should be considering the target crowd but I doubt it.

+ Love the new art for logos/graphics.

                                - Bad censor job as previously mentioned.
Apprently you can refer to a specific gun "I'm a rebel and my 4-4 pops far"...on top of a cop car no less...but not say the actual word gun "A solider and his -censored-". I've also learned rye is a type of whiskey so censoring whiskey but not rye in American Pie makes no sense. Same kinda deal with What I Got in GH 5.

So basically it's a prettied up GH 5. Probably turned a profit already or at least got development cost back,Taylor Swift and No Doubt might've been expensive. The whole $13 that I spent on this was well worth it though.
