Re: Band Hero
I imported it into GH 5 and I think I have about the same ammount of songs as I do in RB now but didn't get Lego yet. Seems to have been a rather large failure with that here.
I'll just use the + - system for impressions...
+ Lots of spectacular venues/stlye. In particular Club La Noza and the Summer Park Festival those are two of the best venues to be in a game. Wish those exported to GH 5,I'd even buy those 2 as DLC. I also remember at the end of GH Aerosmith they had that space station in the video and it wasn't an in-game thing but it is now. That one is pretty neat too. Then there's Monteraux, too bad Smoke on the Water still doesn't export from SH.
- Vocals are just as awful as they were in GH 5,maybe even worse again. The whole vocal engine needs to be scrapped and done over,Karaoke Revolution and RB get it right. Not much new in outfits and stuff either. Might be some missing even,I noticed the bikini top is gone for females, strange as there's a beach now where it'd actually be useful.
+ Some suprisingly fun songs. Only 2 that I flat out hated. Papa Roach and Jesse McCartney...and that doesn't even transfer. Yup that's right, even Like Whoa was actually decent on something.
- Challenges are still ridculous. Either scale them to difficulty or provide an alternate way to unlock things (might be cheat this time,no one found them yet) because this just doesn't do. I was even more against it after having restarted Honky Tonk Woman 3 times trying to do its drum challenge and I finally get it down,FC it on medium (what I play drums on) and it's like 24 notes short of the unlock. Then there's something like the challenge on Kids that wants a bunch of upstrums on a song that's nearly all HO/PO in the main groove. Didn't check if they're doable on beginner in this, they should be considering the target crowd but I doubt it.
+ Love the new art for logos/graphics.
- Bad censor job as previously mentioned.
Apprently you can refer to a specific gun "I'm a rebel and my 4-4 pops far"...on top of a cop car no less...but not say the actual word gun "A solider and his -censored-". I've also learned rye is a type of whiskey so censoring whiskey but not rye in American Pie makes no sense. Same kinda deal with What I Got in GH 5.
So basically it's a prettied up GH 5. Probably turned a profit already or at least got development cost back,Taylor Swift and No Doubt might've been expensive. The whole $13 that I spent on this was well worth it though.I went out and rented this one today and to my surprise, Hollywood Video also left the manual in the case which is nice since I can import the songs on Thursday once up on PSN to GH5.
Neversoft pretty much took GH5 like you said and made this one beautiful looking game. The venues are some of the best I have seen yet in a music game and it is about time they have put time and care into the presentation. Even the character models look a bit more refined and then add more color to the presentation which they have since the image pops.......even more so than GH5.
The track list is actually fairly good as I am more than half way through the career and have found to be enjoying the songs. There has been about 10 songs so far that are meh.
I like the linear career mode, but I think they also need to incorporate a World Tour mode in these Hero titles. All in all, those on the fence this is well worth a rental if you already own GH5 and try to find a code to export the songs to GH5. Since there are filters and some good songs not exporting to Band Hero.........I would rather keep GH5 and export BH's songs to it.
One of my gripes that I have is that Activision/Neversoft is releasing too many games in a matter of 4 months. Granted Harmonix to a degree is not any better.....I think that having Guitar Hero in September, DJ Hero in October, Band Hero in November, and a Full Band Game (Van Halen) in December doesn't help much. If Activision is going to continue with Guitar and Band Hero franchises, why not release Guitar Hero in the Spring and then Band Hero turns into their fall release. They want to saturate the market, might as well do it the smart way and this way you can probably get more sales considering that everyone can't buy all these games. If they are spaced out in a calendar year, then yes, it might be easier to purchase. Like I wanted to buy DJ Hero even though its not my kind of music, but it was fun playing at Best Buy. The release was bad timing imo as trying to drop $120 on the game when a bunch of other releases are out is a no-no imo.
All in all, there are negatives with the game, but this is an impressive package and interesting at some of the added touches in 2 months time since the release of GH5.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 11-08-2009, 01:36 AM.Comment

Re: Band Hero
DJ Hero doesn't count. You can't possibly play it with only a guitar and have to buy a new instrument.
Just for fun...
I've got 226 songs in GH 5.
21 from SH = $4.35
35 from WT = $63.50 (not counting I bought the game twice)
61 from BH = $13
85 from GH 5 = $70 (whacky Canadian prices)
5 GH 5 DLC = $9.50 (2 singles + 1 pack)
19 GHWT DLC = $31.50 (13 singles = $26 + 1 pack = $5.50 + free pack again not including what I bought twice or what I didn't buy again)
Total = $191.85...of course you could say I don't want them all but I don't want everything I've got in RB either.
I've got 259 songs in RB 2.
38 from RB 1 = $65 (not including cost of full bundle, just the game + export)
84 from RB 2 = $60 (didn't keep the 20 free ones and this will be down to about 25 if we get to delete songs in RB 3 transfer)
18 from AC/DC pack = $3.50
92 DLC singles = $183 (Saints of Los Angeles only cost $1 when I got it)
12 song Iron Maiden pack = $20
12 song Who pack = $20
3 song Offspring pack = $5.50
Total = $357
If LRB plan is successful it'll be 304 and it cost $367. Already paid for a month of unlimited rentals at the local store so only counting the $10 export fee. I'm not even caught up on the DLC here, that's another $27 I think.Comment
