Same, thus the preorder. Though I did skip that co-op Live Arcade game earlier this year. No thank you.

The GT review seemed pretty irritated with getting around in the levels but was really positive about the combat. It sure looks nice too.

Naturally all of the negative reviews pop up after the game has been ordered lol

The developers tweeted that the copies that was reviewed is not the finished retail. The framerate issue is cleared up in the retail version. So no worries.

Tough to get a good read on this game...

              7.5 from IGN:

I recommend Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, but not to Castlevania fans. Pretty much anything you would expect to find in a Castlevania game is not to be found here. But fans of combat-heavy action adventure games will have fun if they can excuse a lot of mindless button mashing and a couple technical issues. The developers have successfully adopted ideas from several popular games (God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Uncharted, Resident Evil) but that also means this isn't a very original effort. In the end, I'd rather play a more traditional 2D Castlevania game, but there is no denying that this is a beautiful and enjoyable change of pace.

That's a pretty poorly written review. That and the Gamespot reviews focus to much on how it isn't like Castlevania's of old, and how it borrows so much from other games. Review the game for what it is, not for what it isn't.

That's a very good point Flawless. They basically say it does a great job mimicking various other games, yet it's not getting a good score because it's not like Castlevania games of old?

                  Kinda weird.

It just annoys me when some games are critized for being unoriginal, or because they borrowed heavily from other games. How many truly original games do we get to experience outside of the indie and downloadable spaces these days? Every game borrows, copies, or is influenced by another. If a game takes X, Y, Z from some other games and those are poorly implemented or executed, I can understand the criticism. But some are knocked just simply for borrowing, while a lot of other games get a free pass. If you're going to rationalize it, at least be consistent.

Yah... it reminds me of Darksiders, which I LOVED. A lot of reviews docked it points for borrowing so heavily from Zelda and GOW... yet while taking away points, they still commented on how well it implemented those features. I would read that and think "what??".

I think this will still be the game I pick up this month. Awesome graphics/gameplay, a great atmosphere, and 20 hours of gameplay make it seem well worth the $60.

10-12 hours has been mentioned. Reviews go up tomorrow for it, so we should get a better idea of its length then.

Jason, I think that you will enjoy Castlevania albeit some of these goofy reviews. These reviews just seem to be all over the place if you ask me and it aggravates me that they continue to say how unoriginal this game is. God of War which is one of my all-time favorites wasn't original either and borrowed from other 2D games and was brought into a 3D world.

Agree 100%. It is such an annoying point to hear/read. There is nothing truly new under the sun in 2010. It is the game as a whole that should be reviewed. Nevermind that a gamer who hasn't played the game's you're claiming the game in question ripped off would be none the wiser and just as likely to prefer the reviewed game. If the borrowed features are well done then what is the beef?

I was also trying to decide between this & Enslaved (after ruling out sports choices) and while the demo/story is intriguing, I kind of felt like Enslaved played for you a bit too much (i.e. a game where you if you mistime a jump, rather then jump to your death, you just don't jump). I'm interested to read the reviews.
