    Re: Rock Band 3

I imagine this has been asked before, but I'm not going to skim through 55 pages. Is there any way to cross-over instruments so that, for example, if I wanted to use the keyboard to play tracks on Rock Band 1 or 2 in place of the guitar, I could do that?

You can play guitar or bass on the keyboard in RB3 but I don't think it works for RB 1 or 2.
You can also unlock playing the keys with guitar but it doesn't count for challenges.

I know it's common knowledge, but Activision just has no sense whatsoever of how to maintain a franchise. They completely spammed the holy dog poop out of the music game genre for the last 5 years, and now what could have been a reliable annual or every other year franchise is totally dead. Call of Duty fans take note: this is where that series is headed as well.

Kotick just has no vision; his strategy (like all businessmen these days, unfortunately) is to chase short-term revenue at any cost (even at the cost of long-term stability), and therefore their decision-making basically consists of hammering their "hot" products into the ground until the bottom falls out, then hopefully replacing that fallen franchise with another one on the way up. That strategy works fine, until you don't have anything left in the tank...

I'm very curious to see what Activision does once COD jumps the shark later this year...

They're running Skate into the ground as well. I'm telling you, the article posted in this thread shouldn't exist if it weren't for Activision.

Short-term revenue in favor of long-term stability is a common strategy of a lot of publicly owned companies. It's good for executives because it makes shareholders happy, until the company tanks and the executive gets a nice golden parachute.

You can use the keyboard to play guitar or bass parts on RB 1 and 2 games. There are no keyboard parts in those songs.

You mean they're not going to release the next music game containing a lame soundtrack, terrible charting, cartoonish characters, a ridiculous career mode and an obscene amount of in-game advertising for the likes of Pontiac?

Yeah, that's actually a huge problem with business in America in general...not to get too far off-topic, but now companies are trying to tie some of the upper-level salary to longer-term goals (i.e. stock options that can't be cashed out for 5 years after retirement or the like), but it won't stop the behavior because the incentives to chase that short-term revenue are still much too strong....

I agree that Rock Band has contributed to the many of different titles like GH has, but I don't really count those Track Packs as games.

You can probably toss out the classic one but the rest have had exclusive for a while songs sooo yah, they count. I think the newest country pack is all exclusive and none are for DLC yet.

Dont play this game, just to try and prove a point.
Those Track Packs (aside from ACDC) are meant to be for people who cant get DLC online.
Theres a reason they are only 19 - 29 dollars when they are first released.

Yeah, that seems like a GH fan put that together to try and prove a point, but instead it's comparing full games to song packs.

Not sure if that's a wholly fair comparison, the RB Track Packs, while indeed independent game releases, have never been advertised as entirely new experiences, rather as extensions of the main Rock Band game. You never saw advertising on TV for any of the track pack games, with the exception of Beatles Rock Band and Green Day Rock Band. On the other hand, I'm pretty I saw a TV spot for almost every Guitar Hero game at least once. Further, I'm pretty sure all the Rock Band track packs were priced at or around $20 (again, not including the dedicated band games).
