Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks.

Edit: I'm liking this thing! I managed to pick up Kangaskhan, Machop, Staryu, and Magby tonight. Only have one badge so I could actually add these guys to my team right now. Really happy to add Magby as that will make breeding so much easier since it has Flame Body.

      Re: The Pokemon Thread

Alright guys, looking for some help on what team to roll with. I'm currently in Azalea town, so I'm at the very beginning still. Still have to do Slowpoke Well and get the badge. Here are my options...

      - Lvl 13
      - Lvl 15..... or - Lvl 11
      - Lvl 14
      - Lvl 14.....or - Lvl 11

Then I need to choose two of the following...
      - Lvl 12
      - Lvl 10
      - Lvl 10
      - Lvl 10

Also have Magby (lvl 10) and Magnemite (lvl 11), but I don't really plan on using them in my team. So far the only real lock is Cyndaquil and probably Bellsprout for the time being. The Elekid knows Low Kick, so if I use it I don't need Machop. Wooper has ground moves so I'm thinking about keeping it instead of Staryu. After that I really don't know.

With your locks being Cyndaquil and Bellsprout, I'd go with Wooper (since Quagmire is a beast with his ground moves), Hoothoot (you need a flying type in there, plus it could learn psychic moves), and Machop (just to have more fighting moves, Elekid with Low Kick won't cut it because Low Kick is dependent on the attack's recipient's weight).

For your last spot (Flaffy or Elekid), I think I'd choose Flaffy, just because Ampharos is quicker and not as ugly as Electabuzz or Electivire

I was never a fan of having normal types (Kanghaskhan) in my group, and Onix is a hassle to train.

As you progress in the game though, I feel like you'll end up replacing Bellsprout and one other for someone stronger. Enjoy!

Agreed that you'll probably want to switch out Bellsprout when something better comes up.

If you already have a Water, and Electric type on your team there's really no reason to carry a Grass type. As all the weaknesses you would attack with Grass are already covered; Rock, Ground, and Water. You can handle all that with your Water, and Electric Pokemon.

            Re: The Pokemon Thread

Good point on Bellsprout. I really only planned on keeping it until it evolved, since I'm trying to complete the Pokedex this time around.

I like Ampharos more personally, but this Elekid already knows Thunderpunch. It would also learn Thunderbolt and Thunder (sooner than Ampharos) as well. I always went with Mareep in the past, so I might just use Elekid for something different this time.

I'm liking Kangaskhan simply because he's a beast, and he learns dark moves which gives me an advantage over Ghost and Psychic types which is always a plus. It also learns Outrage, a dragon attack. So despite being Normal, it winds up with advantage over psychic, ghost, and dragon Pokemon which is worth keeping around imo. It can also learn pretty much every powerful TM.

Eliminating Onyx makes sense, considering it's a pain to train because it takes so long.

I'm thinking Cyndaquil, Elekid, Wooper, Bellsprout, Hoothoot, and Machop for the time being. Machop benefits me more for the time being, but I'll likely switch it out for Kangaskhan or something better down the road. Once Bellsprout evolves I'll either trade it out for Kangaskhan if I still need Machop, or Abra.

            Thanks for the help!

I've decided I need a good ground type for Platinum. I have nothing for electric types right now at all except to throw my Luxray out there and use it's non-electric moves. Plus, a ground type would help take care of poison and steel types too.

You might also need a 6th pokemon you could use as a HM hog. I recommend Sandshrew. On my first playthrough I gave him cut/rock smash/strength/rock climb
You could just put him in the PC until you need em.

Pokemon is pretty much the reason why I started using the internet back in Elementary school (true story). Hell my username is my favorite Pokemon (Sceptile) combined with the color I think it's shiny sprite should have been (obviously Red).

I've got GBA Emulator on my Droid and when I'm not busting out some Golden Sun or FF6 I pull out that Pokemon. Think I'll probably buy B&W 2 as well.

If anyone (like me) is mainly into the battling and competitive aspect Pokemon Lab is a great tool to use, build a team and battle others without the tediousness of IV and nature breeding.

You guys think this is fun for someone with very limited Pokemon experience, but enjoys strategy games?

I played one version of Pokemon on DS years ago, but didn't get that far...not that into the Pokemon allure, but not against good games either.

If you enjoy strategy game, I suggest you just download "pokemon online" so you can just build your team and battle against others online.

I stopped playing couple years ago because every team I faced were a stall team, is it still like that? It got boring because I always used bulky offense teams or all out offense and I get stalled to death :/

Well the metagame is still incredibly slow but that's because of the power creep B&W brought about with all the slow, bulky, heavy hitters. Certainly isn't like DPP meta with Bullet Punching Scizors and stuff. I'm hoping B&W2 can punish the slower paced style with some new moves and so forth. Sort of like the transition from RSE to DPP.

Funny you mention that, because I actually have a Sandshrew I'm using just for that purpose!

So I had a total nerd moment and took my Pokewalker with me to work today. I put it in my pocket though, cause hell if I'm letting someone from work see me with that! Wound up getting like 8400 steps, and got like 400+ watts which should be enough for me to have a chance at a lvl 15 Ghastly and a lvl 12 Smoochum which would make my team building even more difficult.

Thanks, might as well look at it. I see that Scizor is still OU though, I don't blame it. That thing is awesome.
