Caved and bought Moon. 100% worth it so far. Very easy with the Exp share mechanic though. I may shut that off...

Went with Rowlett. Also using Rockruff and about to evolve Eevee into Umbreon.

      Re: The Pokemon Thread

I bought a Nintendo 3DS last month and finally got around to trying out Pokémon Moon today. It's the first Pokémon game I've played since anything on the Game Boy Color (Blue and Pokémon TCG: The Video Game were my only other two spins with the series long ago, like 1999 and 2000 or so).

I was thoroughly enjoying my time with the game - I binged played it for like eight or ten hours today - until I abruptly and unceremoniously discovered the game didn't have an auto-save feature and I lost over half of my progress. How the heck is this a thing? How many genres and how many years of video games have had auto-save as a standard feature for at least a decade now? On a portable video game platform which is meant for playing in short bursts?

I'm incredibly upset because again I was really enjoying the game before this occurred. This is the closest I've come to declaring something a "game killer" and I hate using that phrase, it's overused as hell in the sports game forums upstairs for truly petty stuff. As it stands now, I have little to no desire to play this game anymore because I know I will forget again and lose more progress, and I will forget because literally every other game I have played for the past decade auto-saves.

Some will dismiss my forgetting to save as user error, and fine if you think that. However, consider my personal perspective, not only playing dozens upon dozens of video games with auto-save, but also as a mobile video game developer. For example, Ash - a mobile JRPG for the iPhone 3GS on which I had game design and programming roles and which released in 2010 - had autosave (and aggressive autosaving at that; literally every action short of moving triggered a save into a quick save slot, and the user could also set manual restore points). That auto-save system was one of the first features we built into the game once the game engine upon which to build any game at all was ready for it and was something we considered extremely high priority for a gamer playing on a mobile device, lest a user do something stupid like I just did and have to replay significant chunks of the story. To me, auto-save is requirement for entry when playing any video game - not just a JRPG, but any genre - on a portable device which allows for pick-up-and-put-down game play sessions, and absence of the feature on a such a platform is completely unacceptable to me.

Moral of the story - if you want to keep enjoying this game, be vigilant as hell about saving, I guess. If you're not, it could completely discolor your opinion of an otherwise fine game.

Pokemon has never had an auto saving feature.

This is neither useful information to me - this is the first first-party Nintendo game I've owned and played extensively since 1999, there is no way I should be expected to know that auto-save traditionally isn't there - nor a valid reason to exclude the feature from the game. Again, every game I've played for the past decade has auto-save, and every game I have built which allows users to save progress in any capacity has included auto-save.

It's a standard and ubiquitous video game feature which should absolutely be there, but it isn't. The game doesn't get a pass from bad UX design and practice just because it's Pokémon.

            Re: The Pokemon Thread

I do think it should be an option to turn autosaving on, but I also think most long time Pokemon players can think of a few times where it's been benefitial that the game actually didn't autosave and they had to manually save. Just wait until you come across that legendary Pokemon you have been wanting and you play your cards wrong, miss out on the chance to capture it, and then you never have another chance and you wish the game didn't autosave . I know back in the day I would never have had MewTwo, Ho-Oh, etc. if there was autosaving.

No autosave and only one game profile/save is something people have just come to accept dating back to R/B/Y and I can definitely see why you would be upset about it and you have a valid point. To someone who hasn't played any previous games It seems like an ancient technology that should be included without question.

Auto save is not in the game on purpose for legendary nature farming, IV and catching.

Also for those who test battle against certain trainers in the game.
