Nah if you want someone who complains about good games all the time.

Anyway - like I said, Morrowind is a great, great game. Give it a shot.

Aside from graphics, and perhaps combat depending on if you're looking more for an RPG or an Action game, I can't think of a place where Oblivion is better than Morrowind. You'd be doing yourself a favor to look at it first.

Dude, I'm a huge fan of Morrowind. I'm even replaying it right now but I would never say it's BETTER than Oblivion and certainly not for someone just starting in RPG games.

Djwolfpack...I'd differ from the other cats and say go Oblivion first then Mass Effect just because Oblivion is a more self paced do what you want open ended world. You can explore the game and what you enjoy inside the RPG genre.

Re: Mass Effect or Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion?

I have to say I can't choose one over the other. Both or are among my favorite games ever. I will say though that Mass Effect is the "simpler" of the two. Oblivion is just huge. There is so much to do, you could play this game for hours on end without advancing the main story at all. I'm not talking about those little "gather X amount of item" side-quests either; I'm talking real, meaty quests and dungeons that leave you with a nice feeling of accomplishment after finishing. This doesn't even include all the DLC plus Shivering Isles. You can buy and fix up houses, buy horses etc.

When you're done with all that, and start getting into the main quest, there are a lot of things to do within that if you still don't want to rush through. I've put in over 100 hours in that game and still haven't done everything. It's an epic game in scope and presentation. If and when you get it, I'd recommend getting it on the PC, the mod community made this great game even greater.

You roll solo in Oblivion but there are some companions you can have travel with you. They are pretty weak though. Choices you make in the game have a direct affect on your character, making a "good" or "bad" guy. One thing I'd say is a negative is that your character doesn't really have much personality beyond that. He/She has no voice acting and depending on you play, you rarely see it. Your status as a hero or rogue does however factor into how people look at you and interact with you so that's cool.

Mass Effect isn't as big, but it's just as epic. It literally feels like controlling a movie, a very very good movie. I really can't say enough about how well done everything is in ME, the graphics, the voice acting, the story, the soundtrack, everything. The developers did a really amazing job on this game. Not as much exploration here but there are some really nice side-quests that you can do if you want to take a break from the main storyline. There are some of the aforementioned collector quests though that can be a little tedious (for me anyway).

You're not rolling solo in this one, you have a party of three that you choose for whatever you're doing. They are all adequate teammates and you can control their actions for the most part. Choices you make in this game have a bigger impact than in Oblivion and like Oblivion those choices factor into how you're viewed by the people around you.

As far as replayability, I'd give the edge to Mass Effect. I've got three different characters I've taken through the game and it felt different each time. Oblivion was just too much game for me to take multiple characters through. There's enough to keep one toon occupied for a long long time.

In summary man, they're both excellent games, 2 of the best of this generation. I'd say you can't go wrong with either one, unless you're Timmay.

Re: Mass Effect or Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion?

Anyway - seems when I try to voice my personal opinion I just get people making smart *** remarks to me; so I'll leave it at this. Sorry that I don't agree with the masses of people here, but I also don't give a rat's *** if they disagree with me. Kind of reminds me of middleschool around here sometimes. Don't like someone everyone else likes? Eek.. Watch it - . That's a no-no.

So give Morrowind a shot; it's only $19.99 on Steam for the GOTY edition which includes the two expansion packs.

Heck, if you've got money to spare - you can buy the TES GOTY pack which comes with Oblivion GOTY AND Morrowind GOTY, which is a great deal. Just give it a shot.

It's kind of like the Fallout series. Fallout 3 is a fun game, but when you actually go back and play Fallout 2 it's like "damn... what the hell happened?" They just scaled it back so much, and took out so much. It looks great, and it's a fun game for sure, but Fallout 2 is just downright brilliant (and I'd never heard of Fallout until I bought 3, then I went back and played 2).

Hell - if you want, tell me your Steam ID and I'll BUY Morrowind GOTY for you and gift it to you.

Too bad EA can't use the same group that makes Mass Effect make Madden and NCAA. Mass Effect is one of the best games.

I luv Oblivion too! Both roxors!

So, Fallout 3 is also a game to consider? It sounds interesting.

That game did nothing for me but most people seem to luv that game. I am sure there's a demo for it.

Yeah, it's a good game. Keep in mind, though, it's an RPG, not a FPS - which a lot of people confuse it for when they first look at it.

It based heavily on stats - so there are times when you'll shoot someone in the face from point blank range 3 times with a shotgun and only drain half their life... Things like that; it depends on how skilled your character is, and how lucky they are (luck plays a big role in the game).

It's certainly a very interesting game; and if you do look at it, make sure you grab the expansions. They make it much more playable (one adds 10 more levels, and makes it so the game doesn't just end when you beat the main quest).

I didn't like Fallout 3 because of the setting, it got annoying seeing that ugly city and I took it back.

Well it is intended to be played in first person, as is Oblivion, so keep that in mind. But a lot of people seem to be able to use it in 3rd person after getting used to it. Just keep that in mind. Bethesda really makes the 3rd person view as a sort of tool to use here and there, so it doesn't feel very comfortable at first - but you can get used to it after a playing for a while.

I concur. I liked the game enough to play it awhile but the tone of the whole thing just got depresssing. I play games to escape not to go somewhere WORSE and feel bad for dozens of fictional characters. Just not a game for me.

                                And Timmay...

It wasn't about you disagreeing as much as trying to authoritativley dismiss the opinions of others who posted before you to someone seeking advice. You did nothing of value in the first post to answer the OP's question. You expressed a minority opinion and others made that clear.
