    Halo 1, by far.

I can't stand Halo 2 and 3 online(not even referring to glitching, just the online multiplayer in general). not sure why, the game just does not transfer well in an online setting to me. didn't care a whole lot for the campaigns in both them as well. Loved the Halo 1 campaign and the LAN multiplayer was probably the best FPS multiplayer time I've ever had. 4 xboxes with 4 people on each in an 8v8 CTF match was awesome. my parents hated those all-day Saturday LAN parties we had at my house.

Halo CE - It was such an awe-inspiring game for it's time. It didn't really bring anything new to the FPS genre, but it did implement some things better than anybody did before it and it became the blueprint for console shooters going forward. I have so many great memories from playing it.

Since then the Halo games have been mostly good with some brief flashes of greatness. Looking back, Halo 2's story had the chance to easily be the best. It really dove deep into the mythology, but the arbiter sections and cliffhanger ending killed it. Mission design in Halo 2 wasn't nearly as strong and the missions themselves were very tightly contained, and not as open as Halo CE. While not as good as the multiplayer in Halo CE, Halo 2 multiplayer was still a lot of fun. I played over 2,000 games online, and the matchmaking system and party system was simply ingenious. Halo 3 had easily the worst story, but I still stand by what I said to this day about the series of missions from 3-7 being the strongest in any Halo game. Halo 3's feature set is amazing and I think has set the bar. I would like the multiplayer more than Halo 2, but there just isn't as many quality maps. ODST has an okay main story, but the story of Saddie in those audio logs is fantastic and has me determined to find them all. Gameplay was kind of a return to old form with no more duel-wielding, slower movement, stamina, health packs, ect. I really dug the hub world, I know some people didn't like it on here, but it was my favorite part - such an awesome moody atmosphere. Missions were mostly strong, but at the same time I had already experienced similar things before.

It's going to be very hard for Bungie or the internal Microsoft Halo team to make a Halo game that rivals the original simply because of nostalgia, but never less, I have high hopes for Reach. The timeline is awesome. I get the impression from Bungie that they themselves know the current formula has been exhausted. I really like hearing that it's going to be the culmination of everything they have ever wanted to do technically in a Halo game. It's also nice hearing they got a state of the art mo-cap studio put in earlier this year and plan to make full use of it starting with Reach. All previous Halo games used hand-keyed animation, and I think people would agree compared to a lot of other games, Halo looks a bit stilted.

ODST is above average and easily the best.
        Halo 3 is very average.
        Halo 2 is below average
        Halo is bad.

          Singleplayer
          Halo 1
          Halo 3
          Halo 2

          Multiplayer
Halo 1 (so many LAN parties growing up)
          Halo 2
          Halo 3

I haven't played ODST yet but I'll probably rent just to play the single player.

Halo 2 on xbox live was amazing at the time. I don't think I will ever be able to match the amount of time I put into that game. I cant even imagine how many hours I put into that game. It was the only game I played for 2+ years.

              Halo 3
              Halo 1
              Halo 2
              Halo 3:ODST

Three was great fun, 1 had the "wow" factor. 2 was just more of 1, which wasn't a bad thing, and ODST was pure garbage IMO.
