Re: Captain America and Thor Video Games Announced for 2011

I'm still getting it, got it for 29.79 through Amazon (when it was 37 plus had 8 bucks in credit) with release day shipping. So for that much, and my son's love of the character, it's worth it for me. If I play through it and beat it in 6 hours, I'll just trade it back in.

The video review didn't look as bad as a 5.0 IMO. But it's just a number, sounded like he liked a lot of the game, but the big things he didn't he really knocked it down for.

Going to get it this week with the B2G1 deal from Best Buy last week. Love Cap, so as long as the gameplay is passable, it's worth it for me.

Fry's has it for $39, so I'll get BBY to PM and I'll trade something in towards it to make it cheaper. I was to add it to my GF que, but forgot to send back 1 of the games.

I'm sure I'll play it at some point. It doesn't look like 5.0 to me. I'm just to backed up on games right now and that was before NCAA 12. Guess I'll wait until it hits the bargin bin.

Amazon delievered my copy a little bit ago, I'll try it when I get home later and give some impressions.

On the 3rd mission. It's easy but fun. You do feel like Captain America. Nothing earth shattering though.

It was worth the 30 I spent on it. My son is in heaven.

Re: Captain America and Thor Video Games Announced for 2011

I put in some good time with it. The combat system is what I'd call Arkham Asylum light. Has that feel, but not completely the same. For a linear game, it's an open world game, meaning you can go anywhere anytime. Makes little sense to have it that way though as the story only goes in one way and there's no real point to wandering around other than collecting stuff.

Story seems okay, not really sure where this is set in relation to the movie, but seems to be right after you become Captain America. Not too much with Red Skull as of yet, you just hear him talking here and there.

Graphics are pretty good, the level details are lacking but so much of the game is focused on Captain America himself, that you don't notice unless you are looking to have something to complain about. LOL

It's not Arkham Asylum though, not even close. I don't even think it's Wolverine. It's probably far better than both Iron Man and Thor games, but that's not saying a lot.

I am having fun with it, my son is loving every second that Captain America is doing something on the screen, so it's worth it for me. But for most, feels like a rental or budget pick up. Based on my play, it's probably a 6.5-7 game.

Are there alternative costumes from the go or do you have to use the old school one throughout the story?

There are 2 alternate costumes, no clue when they unlock though.

The more I play the more I like. Game definitely isn't a 5.0 game IMO.

I rented it and am up to chapter 10 (and a boss fight). My son has been watching me play and helping spot collectibles. He loves it. It's Arkham Asylum light. It has challenge rooms and the Hydra bad guys talk over the loud speaker like the Joker did in AA. I like the mechanics of using the shield, although the timing on on bullets seems a bit inconsistent. I think they could have done more with the whole creepy Nazi castle thing (see Wolfenstein) but for a movie tie-in it's a pretty good game. I would not have paid full price, but even if I had I wouldn't be filled with regret. I like that they used other villains during the movie timeline. The story isn't out of this world, but at least it makes sense.

TRU has this for $37.49 this week, will most likely go to BBY and get a PM. Sounds like a good enough game for around the $30 mark.

I've played through 3 chapters so far. I'm enjoying myself, but glad this was a rental.

It's fun and exciting, but it definitely has a geared towards children feel about it IMO.

Collectibles seem easy to spot, and enemies definitely don't seem to be a challenge.

That said, I'm having fun with it, and glad I chose to rent it.

                                I'd say 7/10.
