It seems almost 2 million in sales isn't enough, so they think making it more action focused and empowering you will increase sales, which it probably will.

I can tell you that we're a little more focused on action horror as opposed to survival horror.

Seriously. I hated RE5 because they went away from what made that Franchise great. Dead Space was the heir apparent to Survival Horror, but now it appears that they are steering away from that formula. Shame. If I want to play a MW2, Uncharted style action game I will play them. I don't want Dead ("MW2") Space 2.

But, like Flawless said it is all about the $$$. Just not sure if they understand what the audience wants. If the first Dead Space had a steady marketing blitz I am sure it would have sold well. I guess since MW2 broke the records it did, this "copycatting" will become a trend.

PAX East 10: Dead Space 2 First Look

Yes, everyone's favorite space engineer is getting a new suit in Dead Space 2, EA and Visceral Games' next entrant in the third-person/survival horror franchise, and today, the PAX East audience got a sneak peak.

At first, it was just some art of the new Metal Gear-looking suit (photos below – yes, we know that they're blurry), but then the panel brought out a very short, very exciting clip from Dead Space 2.

Still looks awesome, but definitely seems to be a far cry from the first game.

                        It wasn't very revealing though.

                              Re: Dead Space 2

New preview from IGN... I'm definitely excited again:

Part of my demo included the developer just blasting chairs around a waiting room-esque area. See, objects have physics this time around. Shoot a support of a hanging lamp and the fixture will swing from its remaining support and cast the light in whatever direction it's pointed. If you blast a window pane acting as a room divider, it'll shatter and the pieces will fall to the floor. Out of ammo? You can grab one of those shards of glass with your telekinesis and turn enemies into minced meat. Miss your target, and the glass will be embedded in the wall. Although you can use glass this time around, it wasn't the second weapon I mention earlier. That honor goes to the Javelin Gun, which shoots bolts at enemies and then finishes them off with a shock of electricity or burst of fire.
Dead Space 2 is looking good. Like, really good. The creepy atmosphere is still there, the color usage seems to be a bit more diverse but definitely in the right vein, and if you only partially dismember some enemies, they'll crawl after you on the ground.

If you're a fan of deep space dismemberment, it's going to be a long wait until 2011.

I can kind of understand why the shift is happening from a stylistic POV.

I mean, if you're Issac, would you really be scared of Necromorphs in the same way? I mean he killed a friggin' hundred foot tall Eldrich Abomination. It's somewhat justified that he be more competent as a character a fighting Necros so it's more action horror than survival.

That doesn't mean I'm cool with the shift though. But hopefully it's not a complete change to action horror.
