Not to tell you what to do with your money, but please buy this game new. It's really good and really important. Reward these devs for being bold.

I've been following this game for a while now and really liked the demo and the videos I've seen. I respect the developers for creating a good game, but I don't play online and a short campaign doesn't worth $60 for me, unless it's really groundbreaking and may never ever be recreated again. I don't mind buying a new copy, but it'll take a while until it'll be worth it.

I guess at some point I'll either have to force myself to play online or stop buying games, since campaigns are getting shorter and shorter.

From a narrative standpoint, it absolutely is groundbreaking.

            Re: Spec Ops: The Line

Yup. Haven't seen anything like this in games before. A couple of movies but never a game. Even without the choices and multiple endings it'd be worth going through a second time. You know how a movie like The Matrix you watch once then you watch it again and pick up on a bunch of subtle things you didn't the first time or find meanings in things you only suspected so then you get a better view of it the second time through, this game is like that and know what? That doesn't happen games. When you see the ending it'll probably make you want to go through again anyway. I don't play online either and have no regrets. (Of course I already got it on sale. )

You can't do anything about chapter 8 btw. I tried thinking maybe there was an alternate path there (especially going through chapter select) but they just keep respawning.

I have this downloaded and ready for when I get home tonight. It's been a 14 hour day so hopefully I can stay awake to get through a chapter or two.

How is the enemy AI? Do they provide a challenge without being cheap bullet sponges?

Yes, the AI is one of the better parts of the game. They take a realistic amount of bullets an they actually move and communicate with each other.

Also, goh, you can't just head down and take them on with guns? You have to make...that...decision?

I've been hearing a lot of praise for this game; might go pick it up soon.

                    Re: Spec Ops: The Line

I dont care if this game is short. Im really enjoying the whole layout of this game.

Im already on the hard level which has aim asist off, but even with that. The game controls very nicely.

I brought this game to support the developers. I'm usually very picky with what I buy, but I felt this game was worth supporting.

The fact that goh is giving this game such high praise just might be worth the $60 alone. If only so you can say you own a game he actually likes.

                        Re: Spec Ops: The Line

This is one of the very rare times I'll ever say that 6 hrs is probably the perfect length for a game. With this type of story, and the themes that are being presented, making the game TOO long would honestly lessen the impact for me, as I would become a bit desensitized to the experience.

I would normally be upset that I'm not being offered 8-12 hrs a playthrough, but this time it's perfect. Add the fact that there are different choices to be made warranting multiple playthroughs, and I can easily see myself getting up to 30 hrs out of the single player alone.

Oh, and I'm just going to mention it again... what is with some of the reviews knocking the gameplay??? It works great! Taking cover, vaulting over cover, shooting, meleeing... like I said before, it's not necessarily RAISING the bar, but it's just as competent and tight as any of the Uncharted or Gears games I've played (and if you know me, you know I love those games, especially Uncharted).

Yes I dont get what is wrong with the controls. Like I stated even with aim assist off the game controls prefectly for me.

I find it best to listen to the reviews from the gamers than the sites like IGN, gamespot, and others. Again its one persons opinion, and it doesnt hold more value because they work for a website. Than that of a review from a gamer in this forum.

Gamers just talk about the game. I could care less about V-sync graphical issue, and any other technical fall out. I just want to know about the game. Gamers do that better than a reviewer from a website. Just to be cleared a reviewer is a gamer also, but their reviews to me I just dont trust.

There are two that I trust above all others....me and Arthur Gies at polygon.

There are others that I don't trust at all (Hi, Greg Miller!)

But what I say to everyone who reads reviews is this: find games that you like on metacritic, read the reviews that agree with you and why, keeping in mind who wrote them. Then find out who was on the opposite end of the spectrum. Read and trust the first group of people (not entities), and do not read (and distrust, although that's not the right word) the second group.

The thing is everybody is looking for something different. I value story and atmosphere over mechanics. If a game is competent, I can have a great time with it if it tries to say something. For example, I rated spec ops higher than quantum conundrum, even though QC is a better "game" and more "fun". But it doesn't stir my emotions like spec ops did. I had fun with QC, but I'm going to remember spec ops for much longer.

A dude like Greg miller will praise a game because it has a lot of fun collectibles. I couldn't care less about collectibles. Different strokes.

I tried that the first time through, there's no option to rappel. Can only shoot at them from the roof and they just keep respawning.

There was an oddity later that made me wonder if there's more or some other path...
