Here is a section from a review I read earlier

Spec Ops really shines in both its narrative, but also underlying themes. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable game that seems to not only comment on the horrors of war itself, there are no winners only killers, but commenting on the insatiable bloodlust of the player. You enjoy the destruction and killing in parallel with Martin Walker, the phosphorus section highlighting this expertly and whilst I won’t go into any detail, it will leave you absolutely staggered, throwing you straight back into a firefight in a way that completely disorients the player, a master-stroke by Yager. The ‘moral choice’ sections are equally well done, really showing the evolution of the system in one of the best ways yet, as very options are immediately apparent to you, the easiest routes are undoubtably the most questionable.

Yager have created a game that pulls no punches; a fantastically warped reality of war in an equally marvellous contemporary setting. Spec Ops: The Line never condescends, and leaves you questioning your own actions even after the game is over. The multiplayer seems a little out of place, given the context of the game and whilst solid and functional, seems to represent less replay value than the single player. You have been warned, you’ll need a lie down once it’s over but you’ll thoroughly enjoy the ride and eagerly anticipate Yager’s next entry into the world of games.

Here is the link to the whole review.

This is a whole other review on it, but he also stresses the plot of the game.

I hear a mix bag on the MP. Some are ok with it and some are not, but no one has mentioned that it was solid.

I have not tried it yet. I'm loving the SP way too much.

I'll share some quotes from reviews about it but not post the full reviews because some spoil it and I'll remove the spoilers in the quotes...

There are some very disturbing moments throughout Spec Ops: The Line, including some that make the objectionable “No Russian” level from Modern Warfare 2 seem like a walk in the park.
Possibly most affecting is the *spoiler removed* sequence, in which you are genuinely left feeling uneasy and shaken. Differing from the brutish bravado of Call of Duty, Spec Ops really explores the consequences of war on the human mind. Should a soldier blindly follow orders? Or, as Lugo aptly puts it, is there "always a choice"?
Nuance in Spec Ops is restricted to the game’s storytelling which is dense and compelling. I can’t think of another game where I replayed chapters, after beating it, for the sole purpose of fully understanding the gravity of key story moments. While Spec Ops could have delivered some plot details more clearly, there is an appeal to how vague of a web it weaves; at times, leaving some major information to collectible intel items scattered around levels. Sitting through the credits of a game while you piece together its complex story in your head is a rarity in videogames.

We don’t need to come to terms with killing people, because it’s all fun and games for us. Not so for Captain Walker, who must find reason and purpose in his rampage. Walking that long sandy, bloody road through Dubai is one of the most captivating gaming experiences of 2012 because of it.
At one point, for instance, you *spoiler removed*. However, the game doesn't gloss over the consequences of your actions. Instead, it shows you, in vivid detail, exactly what you've done. It even has one of your squad, who disagrees with your decision, bring it up again later in the game.

It's a move that some will feel is bold, others will feel is manipulative, while those who don't like being reminded of the human cost of war will feel like they don't want to play this game anymore. But as someone who knows that it's just a game, that I didn't just kill real people in a really gruesome way, it's just part of the mission.
There was one reviewer that DID want to quit playing but I can't find it anymore.

That's not even to say anything of one of the endings or even a later possible incident in chapter 12 or 13. The name is quite appropriate,if they didn't cross the line with this game their toes are at least on it. But that's a good thing. I hope it helps games evolve in some ways that they seem to be stuck in. I suppose CoD will copy it later and it'll be the best thing ever as opposed to this not getting much attention and I can only guess not selling well. Like how Gears invented the cover system and GTA 3 was the first open world game.

It's not $60,amazon has it for $50 and the PC version is currently $38. Plus it's very much worth playing a second time. I got about 13 hours out of it and I'm still curious about some things that may or may not be possible. Also worth collecting all the collectibles for once.

And did I mention the awesome soundtrack?

The sandstorm element is cool. It's a much slower MP than what people are used to, and it seems to reward careful movement and awareness of your surroundings.

IMO it leans a bit too heavily toward camping, but I don't think people have realized that yet.

Problem is dudes dont go online for strategy

They go on there to rack up points, get achievements and trophies, no matter if they have to cheat to do it, they will...

Ever play co op games with randoms.. its pathetic, yet people complain and continue to do the same thing anyway.

I dont see how thats just the ultimate for so many people..

Re: Spec Ops: The Line

Just finished it... surprisingly good.

I think the one thing that made this so unique is that... well, you THINK about what you did... it really plays on the emotions of the player, perhaps more so than any other 'shooter'.

Still don't think it was the 'greatest' story line ever... seriously guys who say that should pick up HL1/2 or Max Payne 2.

Unfortunately, I still think gun play was on the poor side. Weapons all feel the same, and sometimes the cover mechanics are a bit wonky. But I daresay this is because I had finished Max Payne 3 which really excelled on those points.

Decent port to PC I must say... much better than the crappy ghost recon that I have requested a refund for (not saying the game is crap, but it just won't run on PC).

Great, but not groundbreaking. For those wondering if they should pay RRP for it, I'd say wait, go for special. Not in the same league as the 'greatest shooter ever' as some comments here suggest... but unique enough to make it worthwhile.

I don't have the top of the line i5-2000 (sandy bridge) plus radeon 6770.

I don't know, the game just continually stutters, and got WORSE with the patch that was released.

Radeon 6670 is a slow graphics card now man. That is probably why. I have i5-3570k 8 gb ram and 7850 2GB radeon and it works fine.

I personally feel as though the characters in HL 1 and 2 are better than the plotting or story. Thematically it's pretty weak.

As for Max Payne 2...it's a great story, but not better than this.
