Re: KOTOR Characters

I'm starting to lose interest. To me, the fighting is too repetitive. I don't think I'm an RPG type of guy. I try to get into non-sport games but it never works out.

JK, if it aint your cup of tea, it just not your cup of tea. But the fighting is'nt to repetative. If you mean repetative by just selecting an action and watching it play out, I understand but thats how all RPGs are. But if you mean the animations and/or weaponry then you need to give it more time. I read that as your skills get better, the animations change. And with the force power, it adds more animations and techniques to your arsenal. But RPG fighting is all about the stratergy more than physical combat.

Yeah, if you don't enjoy listening to dialogue and getting backstories of characters/events, you'll lose interest in KOTOR. Combat to me isn't repetitive, but I try to find different combinations of force powers/melee strikes to really slaughter opponents. If I was just running in guns blazing every time, I don't know if I'd enjoy it as much.

By the way, when your skills improve, you do see vastly different animations. At my level (on the last portion of the game, past all the planets), my saber begins to glow like fire as I do my special moves...I have lightning storms falling from the sky on people, and basically owning everything that moves. It's not even close to repetitive...you can squeal with glee as you find different ways to dismember people.

I like to read fantasy/sci-fi books, so I can start to get into the plotline of the game. I'm starting to become an RPG convert, never used to like them, but now I like quite a few. I need a storyline I can get sucked into (FFX, Kingdom Hearts, KOTOR) otherwise I just won't play it long. Dark Cloud 2 was really cool, but it didn't keep me playing that long, I never got that far into it. Just depends on the game i guess

Thats exactly how I am. The first 5 hours I played I listened to all the dialogue and the game was pretty good, but after a while I just get too inpatient. I want to get deep into the game without being forced to stop to talk to some random character about his missing daughter. If this somehow has to do with the storyline then fine. But, it pisses me off when I'm given a mission like finding power crystals for my lightsaber, and people are stopping me to help them with other crap. Then I go looking for the caves where these crystals are, and I can't find anything but a thousand killer hounds.

Ok, I'm venting at this point, but I still can't get used to the fighting (I'm not familiar with all of the weapons) and the dialogue is too long for my taste.

The game is good, but I just can't get into it. I played for 5 hours yesterday, and I've been home for about 5 hours today and haven't touched it once.

The thing I like about KOTR is the non-linear gameplay. You can choose your fate throughout the course of the game. My biggest fav is the ability to choose diffrent responses or questions when interacting with a NPC. Most RPGs are so linear that it may feel like you're moving along like a rail shooter.(FFX) The open-endness is what drives me to play this game. You've got a list of mission, and you need to gather the information to complete them and some you might not even get to. The fighting is just like any other AD&D game but the fact that its in 3D and almost like an action perspective like Morrowind makes it unique.
