I wasn't a big fan of the demo but it seems like it'd make a helluva comic.

Re: Vanquish
I was sort of "meh" on the demo...in fact, if "meh" itself had a scale from 1-10, I'd give it a solid 7 on the "meh" scale...kind of underwhelming. Played a lot like Lost Planet, in my opinion. I got bored pretty fast.Comment

The entire campaign can be completed in approximately six to seven hours, so it's not a particularly long game. Thankfully, the developers included special challenge levels where players fight wave after wave of enemies in search of a high score. This is great for replay value, as the mode focuses on pure combat and chasing points.
Vanquish is a stylish, spectacular looking game with great gunplay and some stunning set pieces. Although the game's story and character development pale in comparison to the action, I had a great time with Vanquish from the in-game tutorial all the way to the ending credits. Even though Mikami's latest creation is difficult at times, players looking for a highly entertaining shooter should look no further. Vanquish will keep you on the edge of your multi-thruster booster seat.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 10-18-2010, 10:12 PM.Comment

Re: Vanquish
If this had the amount unlockables and extras that Bayonetta has it would have been an instant purchase.
Eurogamer - 9
But in almost every other regard, Vanquish is a trailblazer. It is a game of astounding creativity and polish, exhilarating on the ground in the moment-to-moment thrills of high-speed-to-slow-motion combat, as well as in its wider, twisting trajectory. Doubtless the best third-person shooter ever to come out of Japan, Vanquish builds on Western developers' triumphs to push the genre in new, interesting directions, shifting the balance of power, and cementing Shinji Mikami's position as one of the best directors working in videogames today.
Pure entertainment: that's Vanquish in a nutshell. This speedy and thrilling third-person cover-based shooter is all madness, overwhelming you with gigantic robots, flurries of gunfire, and explosions so powerful and colorful that you might think you feel the heat. There are a lot of things to love about Vanquish, but its most impressive feat is that while it uses mechanics you've seen in other shooters, it feels nothing like them. The focus on speed, the relentless pace, and the fantastic boss fights give Vanquish a feel and style of its own, while its good looks and buttery-smooth frame rate ensure you're always swept into the action. When you walk away from the campaign, buzzing with the rush of adrenaline, it won't be the excruciating dialogue or the forced voice acting you remember most, but the joy you felt when zipping around the battlefield, gunning down metallic transforming scorpions and evading the barrage of bullets vomited by a dozen hardy turrets.
While Bayonetta and Resident Evil 4 offer unlockable characters, costumes, and a huge variety of weapons, Vanquish features none of that. It's interesting to contrast Vanquish's somewhat barebones Tactical Challenge mode against RE4's Mercenaries mode, which featured a similar "fight waves of baddies for points" premise, but also layers on additional playable characters. Players who focus on pure skill and speedruns might be content with the challenges and the idea of replaying story missions, but I would personally like to see more.
It helps a lot that ultimately, Sam Gideon is just so damn cool and stylish to play as. At its peak, Vanquish is a beautifully fast and intense fusion of East and West third-person gameplay -- it just isn't quite as good as the director or the studio's previous work.

Re: Vanquish
LTTP with this one, but what an awesome experience that the full game is compared to the demo. I still have to try Bayonetta, but Platinum Games is a very impressive developer. I think MGSR will turn out to be decent with them at the helm.
My only complaint is that the boss battles are a bit Capcom-esc of old, long, drawn out, and takes shooting at certain parts of some of the bosses to take them down. I don't mind that, the first boss took almost a good hour to beat because I kept dying.
I'm on Act 2 already, hopefully we see a sequel to this at some point.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 01-16-2012, 08:31 PM.Comment
