I keep hearing a lot of people say that I definitely should get mass effect 1 before I get part 2. If you don't mind me asking, why is it so important to play through part 1 first. Is it simply to follow the storyline or are there other reasons? Also, about how long does it take to get through the first Mass Effect.

To answer the OP, no.I keep hearing a lot of people say that I definitely should get mass effect 1 before I get part 2. It's important to play through part 1 because:
1. It's a fantastic game
2. It establishes the story
3. It allows you to make decisions that affect your playthrough in part 2
To a man, I've heard every reviewer express regret if they no longer had their ME1 saved game. And the people that did were very happy with the results. Part 1 is cheap and awesome. I recommend it without hesitation.Comment

You can get the storyline of ME1 easily without playing it, but ME2 will reference a lot of the events of the first game. I feel more part of ME2 since I experienced those events by playing ME1. It had been a while since I played ME1, but the conversations with the characters are helping me remember what I did in ME1.
Also, some choices you make in the first game will carry over if you import your character.
If you like RPG's its worth playing ME1 first.Comment

Re: Are the Mass Effect games as overwhelming as Fallout 3?
The first time I tried Mass Effect I gave it about 15 minutes total before sending it back to Gamefly. With all this talk about part 2, I decided to download it from XBL and give it another go. Wow, this is an awesome game. I'm taking my time with it, but I'm really anxious to see how things I'm doing now will come into play in the sequel. I'd definitely reccomend picking it up. As soon as I finish it I'm copping ME2.
Like others have said, this game isn't quite as overwheliming as Fallout 3. There's still a lot of stuff to do, but they lay out all of the missions and assignments very clearly. You can either fly through the main quest or take your time with the side stuff. I'm personally trying to avoid the main missions as much as possible right now.
SpoilerThis game is getting real. I got the part where Ashley shot Wrex. Wrex was my dude, but anybody who pulls a gun on me has to go. I planned on letting Ashley be a permanent part of the team because of her loyalty, but that's not going to work out anymore. I had to make a choice between going to her or Kaiden, and I chose Kaiden because he was closer. I thought I might be able to save them both, but unfortunately that didn't happen.
Two team members down in the same mission. Tough lol. Although I'm hoping Ashley is still alive since they didn't show her die on screen. Nobody tell me anything!Comment

Thanks a lot guys. I've been reading this thread and I'm hyped up enough that I'm gonna go buy part 1 and 2 today. I'm on vacation for five more days so I'm gonna just go crazy, lol.SimWorld NBA 2K19 Fictional Draft Classes

Re: Are the Mass Effect games as overwhelming as Fallout 3?
I beat Mass Effect in 15 hours...then lent it to a friend and have yet to see it since 2007. I intended on doing much more thorough playthroughs using multiple classes, male/female, paragon/renegade...unfortunately for me, I never got the game back. So the story could be beat rather quickly, but if you put more time into the game I am positive that it is more rewarding. I put over 40 hours into my first go-around with Mass Effect 2.

I think I made a run in under 10 hours by only hitting the main quests and nothing else.Comment

Re: Are the Mass Effect games as overwhelming as Fallout 3?
I went through and tried to do as much as I possibly could, as fast as I possibly could. I did all the main quests, explored every planet possible, and went back to the Citadel two or three times to try to pick up any additional quests. Along the way I skipped through all the conversations as quickly as possible as well. I did this twice to prepare for ME2. I did both runs in about 14-15 hours. The first time I played it though I went through in 35 hours.
For your first time playing through, however, take your time, I would say. Go through as many side quests as possible, as even some of these small things show up in ME2. Listen to the conversations, or at least the ones you find interesting. This is a game that's best meant to be played slowly and to be savored.Comment

Yeah I heard. The trailer is the sickest Star Wars video I have ever seen, and by far. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOvbv-LkK6w)
For me it's not even about the game anymore, I just want to know what happens to Revan and the jedi from the second game.Comment
