Re: Civilization V
Re: Civilization V
Ran a defrag the other day, it works fine now. Almost to the 1600's, Gandhi is THE superpower. I'm preparing to join the conflict that he and Alexander have brought upon poor China. I just got the musketeer, and I think I'm the first to get a gunpowder unit, which would signify a slight tech lead, so science is a possible win. I'll join on China's side, draw in Sidon, and hopefully create a world war, as well as take Gandhi down a peg.
I still have absolutely no idea where I should be right now in terms of culture if I want to win. I still need 14 social policies, which seems like way too much.Last edited by Whitesox; 10-06-2010, 03:12 PM.Comment

Re: Civilization V
Crashed again after a few hundred or so years of play (that's a lot in the late game). Apparently this is a problem that more than a few people are having. So, in light of that knowledge, I have decided to restart, and order the game to autosave more often.Comment

Re: Civilization V
Mine actually crashed a little while ago while I was playing. Sucks because I was actually planning on saving after that turn. Oh well I'll see where the autosave starts me at.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: Civilization V
I like it because it slows down the Technologies while increasing city Production. When I create a good city, it does not take nearly as long to get it productive. The Pacing feels on par with Civ IV which I thought was perfect.
I can also Make more money, I currently have 23,000 Gold. Basically I just power through the Early turns and make as many Settlers as I can. I am not worried about Wars early on because my Cities can fend off attackers and I will have enough Gold to my a unit or two and take out the threat. I really need to turn the Difficulty up because the AI just does not keep up the pace for very long. Its about 1450 and I am winning this game in every shape and form. I am playing on Warlord with Continents but I did this so I could try out these new mods.
I really like the Extra gold because I can make large armies like in Civ IV. The AI also has more gold than they did before these mods. I am gonna bump up the Difficulty a notch or two to makes these games better. I think My next game I will use the US on the Earth map with real starting points and play on the Level above Prince. My First Order of Business, be Realistic and take out the Iroquois. I do feel bad though because their Capital just happens to be where I live: Onondaga(pronounced ON-A-Dog-A)My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: Civilization V
Me (Germany) and the Ottomans just ran through Egypt. Rameses bought it upon himself though. Just finally was able to get to the other continent. I found India, and I know Russia is there too even though I haven't seen them. Haven't seen the last group yet.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: Civilization V
Re: Civilization V
I have reached an interesting juncture in my current campaign, so I figured I'd give you guys a lead up and the current situation to get some thoughts.
Started as China, going for a domination victory. (Capture all original capitals) 8 Civs, standard speed, continents map.
I started on the big continent, on the western coast of the land mass. To my north I had Persia and a few city states, and to my east I had the Iroquois, Germany, Songhai, and Egypt.
Persia's capital fell within turn 100, though somehow they managed to escape to my south with a settler, it does not matter to me. Just need the capitols. Soon after Germany and I obliterated the Iroquois, with me getting both of their cities. One of them is a puppet still, so he could technically make it back, but I would just raze it if it were ever in any serious danger. Then things went quiet for a bit, while I built up my economy, research, and army. The plan was to invade Germany next, who was right on the Iroquois' border (now my border). Unfortunately for me, I jumped the gun a bit, and went in head first with an army that was not up to task. We did some damage, but I eventually decided to withdraw from Germany and prepare for the seemingly imminent counter attack. On my way out, however, I was offered a favorable peace treaty, which I gleefully accepted. A few turns after the treaty was made, the reinforcements finally arrived, though I didn't want to jump right back in.
A few turns after I had amassed this army in the eastern frontier, Askia decided to end our pact of cooperation. Then the light bulb went off, and my troops were marching towards Songhai. Since we were well prepared this time, I successfully launched a two-pronged attack into Songhai lands, and took two of their cities, including their capital. That makes 4 out of 8. Still needed: Germany, Egypt, and two unknowns.
This is where my question comes in. I would really like to have as much of my main continent done as possible by the time I finally meet the other continent, so I want to keep this momentum going and springboard into another quick war. Here is a screenshot: (sorry about the resources being up)

Egypt will not sign an open border treaty without ridiculous compensation, so that is out. I could march through the extremely narrow corridor into Egyptian territory, and try to fight my way to their capital, which has to be on the coast, or I could bring my troops back up and launch into Berlin using Osininka as a base of attack.
I'm leaning towards bringing my army up, waiting a few turns, buying a musket man or two, and using them as the front of the attack. I think I'm a leg up on research, but I have no way of knowing.

Re: Civilization V
Nice post Whitesox.
I like the screenshot. Boy are you multitasking. lol
I think you should definitely go into Berlin and take that capital. It's right there for the taking. Berlin is a 15 city and looking at Egypts other cities it seems like the capital would be a larger city than 15."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment
