    Yeah man, no idea.

The other problem alongside this is the cover system. Don't get me wrong, I love the system, but with an online third person game, I might be in a prone position and targeting some guy a considerable distance from me out in the open. There I am waiting for him to pop up again, but while he is in cover he's actually lining up his crosshairs on me so he can pop out and kill me in one shot if he wants to. It's kind of annoying.

Now I'm not too sure about that. Maybe the chance of hitting someone at that distance? Okay, I see your point. But I'd like to think that would still kill someone.
Alright dude, the chick has had her "15 minutes." It's time to move on.

Agreed. Makes prone situations almost worthless.

Details on the first patch, with more to come. Sounds good so far, looking forward to see what else they are going to fix.

            SOCOM 4 Retail Patch Notes

            Hello everyone,

The most common question on the SOCOM 4 beta forums directed at Zipper is easily, “what changes are you guys making based on our feedback with your beta?” While we have answered some of these questions one at a time in various threads, the guarantee that everyone would see those multiple posts is very small. It is with that fact that we’ve put this list together to better inform you of some of the changes and additions you’ll see to the retail version of SOCOM 4 when it hits stores in April.

One note about all changes listed below, these revisions are currently planned for the first patch we will release for the retail version of the game this April, and are not reflective of all planned updates or changes -- just what we can confirm at this time. An exact date for the retail patch has not yet been announced. All listed updates are considered tentative pending Zipper and Sony Computer Entertainment approval, and could be moved to a different patch without notice.

Another patch for the SOCOM 4 beta program is currently not on the schedule, but is possible barring time constraints. Our retail patch is taking priority, however, so an additional patch for the beta will only occur should time allow.

First Patch – SOCOM 4 Retail Version 1.XX
            Estimated Release: April 2011

            • Multiplayer camera pulled further behind character (cuts off at around the mid-to-upper thigh)
            • Multiplayer camera field of view has been widened by roughly 20%
            • Firing accuracy has been improved for all weapons and aim modes; first few shots are substantially more accurate (with less accuracy the longer full-auto is employed)
            • Considerably increased horizontal and vertical recoil to all weapons in ACOG and Red Dot views
            • Decreased effective range of all SMGs
            • Reduced throw distance for all grenades
            • Made improvements to the HUD to make teammate names display above their head if they are onscreen; removed allied names (leaving only icons) when spotting friendlies at a distance;
            • Made adjustments to XP system so that it takes longer to gain character and weapon mod levels
            • More to come, stay tuned...

            Other Things We're Adjusting/ Changing w/o Details
Estimated Release: TBD (Patch 1 or After)

            • Improvements to mic communication system to make it more obvious who is talking and who isn't; plus bug fixes associated with this

That's a great list to start with. The camera and accuracy issues are two of my bigger issues with the game right now. I'm starting to like the game a little bit more every time I play and can see some promise with this game. I just absolutely hate the game modes in the beta, bring back the originals, all these game modes are basically the same exact thing.

I also wish the grenade throw uses a "breakpoint" system as opposed to a "pinpoint" system. So if you think of like a baseball video game when you throw a curveball, the pinpoint format would be like SOCOM 4 as it currently is, where your crosshairs are set to where you want the grenade to land. I'd rather have a little more difficulty in it and do a breakpoint system where your crosshairs are the trajectory arc you want to set for the grenade (like COD or pretty much any other game I've played).

The game modes aren't so bad once you get the hang of them, but I agree they're all pretty similar. Go to point A, B, or C without much focus on any particular objective. They were definitely built with respawn in mind.

However, I can almost guarantee that we'll see some of the older modes like Demolition some time down the line, probably as DLC. The maps are already built for it and Jeremy Dunham gave a wink when somebody asked about it on the forums. They also hinted at DLC in a podcast.

Yeah, I wish they would just bring back the grenade arc. That mechanic would work perfectly with the one that they have now. Tap to throw, hold for the arc.

I love this idea, the grenade arc would be awesome in this game, and it would help me a ton with my tosses.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!
