Gotta say after playing the 1st mission on "Normal" I am just ok with the game at this point. Explosions and airstrikes are cool but nothing is making me go WOW!!!!

After 1 mission I'm ready to throw in The Show and get back to my Dodger franchise or Crysis 2. Lol!!

Guess this one is going to have to grow on me

Yeah, that has been the theme of most of the reviews out there... i think where this game will shine will be online... more specifically the Co-Op... that looks awesome!!
Keep at the single player though, I believe the weapon unlocks transfer over to online from single player.

I will say the 2nd mission I enjoyed better and I just started the 3rd. The missions are running around 15-20 min long. I'm thinking about restarting and bumping up a level due to it being fairly easy on normal.

I sure hope the MP opens up by this friday!!

Played a couple of missions and its not to bad. So far I would give it a bout a 7-8 range. Hopefully the MP pushes it to the 9 range.

Ebay never fails!!!!. Even got it a day early. I was expecting to get it Thursday because I never got a tracking # and when I got home from work it was here.

You simply played differently than I did, and the people I played with did.
Good point Blzer. Thats what I thought made 1 and 2 so great, the gameplay was ever-changing depending on who you were playing with or who you were playing against. A good strategic gameplan with your clan could beat the best of the run and gunners. It was a game where the buddy system and communication would really come into play. Running and gunning by yourself against a team that would stick together wouldn't get you very far after you killed the first, there were 2 more ready to knock you off.

Congrats on getting the game early Flight. Hope they open up MP soon, so we can get some impressions there.

If your clan didn't have at least 7 good to great run and gunners in Socom 1 and 2 then your clan was trash and you beat no good clans. Ideally everyone on your side should be a great run and gunner if you and your clan were any good that is. Where does a buddy system and communication beyond simple stuff go when a typical round is over in 2 minutes or less?

What do you mean by "a good strategic gameplan?" There were ways to attack and different areas you wanted to control in certain maps but you phrase it like you and your clan had a conference call before each round and discussed strategy when it wasn't that way in competitive wars (Gamebattles or whatever) at all. If you played enough then everything in terms of strategies became second nature. All strategies and tactics in the game were simple. It basically broke down to knowing general tendencies, playing smart, and ultimately, you being better on the sticks then whoever you were going up against.

A buddy system? Communication? You must be talking about Socom 3 which I will reiterate, is when the series took a huge nose dive in terms of everything. Socom 1 and 2, which was when the series was at its absolute peak, was a run and gun players dream.

If that wasn't your play style then you were no good at the game competitively multi-player wise. There was no alternative way to be good in the two games (Socom 1 and 2). Individually, as a clan, that was THE play style that enabled clans to be good or even great. Now you had to be smart about it. The game wasn't mindless at all but again, if you couldn't make people miss diving to prone then popping back up and if you didn't have excellent hand/eye coordination to go with aim and smarts and everything else... you were probably terrible and your perspective on the game and its multiplayer is skewed and wrong.

Seriously?? I had fun playing with my clan the way we played. I could care less if you think I was terrible or not. I also could care less if you were the greatest socom player in the world and your clan was #1. I don't play these games to brag about my leaderboard status.

I also play to have fun and enjoy myself I could care less about k/d and all that stuff. If I do well great, if not oh well I'll live to fight another day. The day I start taking gaming too serious is the day I'll call it quits as it's not worth the headache with all the bickering and trash talk that follows.

You misunderstand me... what I'm trying to tell you is that the way you played was not a typical Socom 2 experience or play style. Yet you post about it like the way you played the game was typical and the way most people experienced the game when it was not. This misleads people and misinforms. Was that your intention? I didn't think it was so I was just clarifying that the way you two played was not typical. Yes I clarified in my own way. I was not trying to belittle you. Sorry it came off that way. In the future you should probably make it clear that the way you played Socom was just that. The way YOU played Socom. Most people that played Socom in it's hey day so to speak, did not play that way at all.
