I'm thinking about picking this game up, traded in call of duty black ops a while back so I'm in need of a shooter, but I'm kind of torn between this and battlefield 2. Both games interest me because it's more about teamwork rather than kill to death ratio. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: SOCOM 4
I think right now you'll get more of your money's worth out of BFBC2 since you'll have all of the maps that have been released for it if you buy it new. That game is one of my favorite online shooters and playing with friends is a blast.
SOCOM 4 still has some issues that will be resolved in a patch, so until then BF will be your safer bet. The learning curve is also higher. Have you played any of the previous SOCOM games? It is definitely a slower paced game.
EDIT: Stormy made a good point about BF3 coming out in the fall, so it might be better to get S4 for now.Last edited by FlyRice; 06-05-2011, 01:53 PM.Comment

Re: SOCOM 4
Thanks you both make some good points. Definitely want to own battlefield 3 later this year as I'm probably done with the call of duty franchise. I've played a few of the older socoms casually and had fun, but did co-op never competitive multiplayer. And yeah going with socom would probably be the smarter choice so I don't become burnt out on battlefield before BF3 drops. I guess the main question then becomes are both communities BFBC2 and SOCOM are they active?Comment

Re: SOCOM 4
BFBC2 is over a year old, but I'm sure there are still people playing it. S4 just came out two months ago so it is still active. If you played co-op from earlier SOCOMs, then you'll like the co-op mode in S4. You and up to 4 other friends can complete custom missions together, and the single player isn't too bad either. For online you have both respawn and non-respawn modes so you should be able to find something you like. Just remember if you buy either game used, you'll have to pay an extra $15 for their online "pass" which gives you extra content.Comment

Re: SOCOM 4
I expected a learning curve, but man.. this game is nuts.
Most games I get in are a complete cluster-**** and there's a bunch of guys running around ranked really high. I figured it would at least match me up with some guys closer to my level.. I feel like I'm at a dis advantage because of my weapon.
I may just have to play the SP Campaign to get better, unless it stops pairing me up with these guys with a ridiculous rank
it gets better...just keep playing...once you learn the controls and they become second nature game is incredible. You will die ALOT at first...just learn the maps and learn where to go and where not to go like any game.SLIDERS SUCKComment

Socom is definitely NOT a slower paced game. Not when your playing 16 vs 16 rooms. People are everywhereSLIDERS SUCKComment

After not touching this game since the infamous hack I got a couple of hours in. I just simply love me some Socom 4.
The only issue is not playing with people I know and I wish there were more maps.

Flight, you get another PS3 again man?Comment

Gotta admit. I caved to peer pressure. I have all 3 systems. I ve always had the Wii for the little ones.
As much crap and complaining I did when the hack went down I had a knee jerk reaction. The thing that probably pushed me back more than anything was all my friends have there PS3 as there main system. I can hardly find more than 4-7 friends on Xbox but on PS3 there is always 12-18 at any given time.
Couple that with the fact I put an add for a PS3 on craigslist Wanted and this guy called and said he had a NIB with a gift reciept. Offered him 200 and he wanted 250. We settled on 220. Hell I got rid of my old one for full price because I took it to Target and got 325 plus. It turned out to be a 100 profit. I will do that deal all day. I think the guy was in a tough bind and charged the several systems on his CC and then sells them for cash.??????
Gotta keep my Xbox for my sports titles and Gears-Halo games

Re: SOCOM 4
So I picked this up based on the impressions and i have to say this game is a lot of fun. I like the fact you can take cover behind objects, the third person view is cool, and there is hardly any lag online.
I've played a few online matches, the one thing i notice is some players like to chuck grenades without restraint which is kind of annoying but overall the game is fun.
If anyone wants to play Socom, my psn is wizkid9387, can't say I'm good, but I'm a team player and a work in progress.Comment

What modes do you guys play? I'm always in Classic, usually on Abandoned.Comment
