KOTOR Power up strategy and other questions...

well i just got the game last night and only played a couple of hours. i guess i am still on the part where i am trying to save bastilla. i have decided i am going darkside for my first time. i am a soldier.

so i am new to the whole rpg scene. i was just wondering is there any rhyme or reason to the way you get power up points and do they eventually start coming in bigger chunks? also what is the best way to use the points. i have been hitting recommended for the first couple times. also i am still trying to figure out all the numbers and whay advantages certain things have. i will read the book a little more in depth eventually and these things will probably be more clear as i play more but if anybody feels like letting me in on any of this stuff while i am at work that would be cool.

also when battling, you only have to press "A" once to initiate and then you just put the box over the action you want to do and thats it?? or you can press "x" to cue up a few moves?

I'm still learning the power up stuff, but for attacking I was only using A for a while. Using X to queue up attacks is a really good idea though. You could put on a shield, then lob a grenade, and then attack. Or you can have one character do something before another. Lets you get really indepth with the attacks, I enjoy queuing up now.

Re: KOTOR Power up strategy and other questions...

That's what I did. For the sake of argument, let's say I face off against 4 enemies...

I switch to my rifle specialist, have them lob out some concussion grenades to stun some people. That's the first move. Then I pick a target and send charge shots at them. That takes out one.

With the second, I'll throw two frag grenades, then a sniper shot. That will weaken the remaining three, and kill off one. Leaving two.

With my main character, I'll throw a frag grenade as my first queue, then unpause. Usually I have one enemy left, and then I'll just go melee with him, usually killing him in one hit since he's already at like 10% from the other frag grenades, etc.

For more enemies, I might pause after each round or two, to re-queue up some moves. It's essential to getting through the later battles with healthy sums of hitpoints left. In the earlier stages, as you nail down your strategies, it's useful to get you through a fight alive, and finding out your strengths and weaknesses...both as a single character, and the party as a whole.

Damn, don't look now, but my nerd is showing.

                Question??????

Can you make the game pause automatically after each "round"?

I have been playing with no pauses at all

I'm not sure exactly when it pauses, but there's an 'auto pause' option in the options menu...give it a shot and see how you like it

Yes, there's an option for round pauses.

It slows down the combat too much for my tastes...I will usually pause when I see the queues running out (4 rounds of combat) and issue a new set of queues. Or, of course, if somebody is about to die.
