    Re: Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

Hmm. Kind of difficult to see Spiderman in a stealth game (even if it is only one of four gameplay universes). It's an interesting take on the series, especially since the video game franchise hasn't been too great, so I'm willing to see what they do with it.

I think open game play is most important, but perhaps Spiderman needed to return to a more linear style of play and so long as the game still has some open world elements, it could be to Marvel what Batman: Arkham Asylum was for DC.

Considering that one of the confirmed universes takes place in the late 1930's, I'm going to assume that one of the two unconfirmed universes will take place in the Spiderman 2099 universe.

One last note: the plot is poor for the Spiderman franchise. The Tablet of Order and Chaos? Maybe they'll make sense of it, but seeing how the Spiderman comic book franchise has pretty much gone in a ridiculous direction (in my opinion), I'm not entirely convinced.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

The graphics look really nice but where did that Noir Spider-Man come from? I don't really follow what happens with the current comics.

        Re: Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

I'll buy into the different universe Spider-man story lines as it has happened before. I'm also pleased that they have a writer from the ASM staff. I am not pleased though with Spider-man running around in the jungle hunting Kraven.

Also maybe they'll have the Bruce Wayne like Spider-man in this game.

Based on the past games, expectations are low. I did somewhat enjoy Web of Shadows though despite the terrible frame rate at times and other bugs. Maybe this will surprise us all.

          IGN Preview

The demo began with Spider-Man freefalling in his slick-looking dark blue and dark red suit while flying cars whizzed by underneath him. The screen was saturated with neon colors, filled with holographic "Stark" and "Osborn" signs, and set among buildings that had the clean, futuristic look to them that fans will recognize from the comic book series. When Spidey landed, you really got to take in the detail on his suit, the talons coming off his arms, and what Beenox did with this universe's villain, the Hobgoblin.

In the past, Activision has said that this game will have a major villain designated to each universe – Amazing has Kraven and Noir has the circus freak version of Norman Osborn known as the Goblin – that levels are built around. Apparently, fans told the company that they loved boss battles, so that's the focus for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.
Here, we're in a world where the normal ride to work is through the air, so having a villain like Hobgoblin 2099 – a monster of a man clad in blue and orange – swoop in with his massive wings and engage Spider-Man from the sky makes sense. Hobby'll throw bombs that the player can web and hurl back at him, but Spider-Man's also going to be able to web the baddie, pulled himself close, and begin duking it out in the air.

With the neon lights of the future as your backdrop and cars speeding by underneath you, the scene is pretty damn cool. Eventually in the demo, Hobgoblin retreats to the top of a building and shoots down the center of it. Spider-Man follows, and the player needs to guide the freefalling superhero past obstructions and to the villain below.

Each Spider-Man in Shattered Dimensions is going to be voiced by someone who has played the character in the past. Remember the Spider-Man cartoon from the '90s? Well, Christopher Daniel Barnes played Spidey in that and is back to be Spider-Man Noir. When it comes to Spider-Man 2099, Dan Gilvezan, the voice of Spidey on the '80s cartoon Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, will be lending his pipes. No word on the voice for the Amazing universe, and Activision is mum on what the fourth universe will be.

As a comic nerd and someone who has been wronged by Spidey games in the past, I'm trying to keep my expectations in check while watching this game and wondering how it's all going to come together. However, after seeing the 2099 demo, I can say for the first time that I really want to play Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. The future looks cool, and I want to be a part of it.

^ Trying to keep expectations low but man, that 2099 universe looks amazing.

I just liked Bruce Wayne. The villains were pretty lame IMO and rarely had a consistent story line.

Hoping this one is going to be good.

It was alright and had potential but they never pulled it together. I did love that Return of the Joker movie though.

I forgot all about this game, hopefully it's better than the last one.

That's crazy that they got the guys who did the voices in the cartoons.

They both debuted in 1992, that "look" was sort of popular at that time (along with trench coats and belts with many useless pouches). Batman Beyond borrows a lot from Spider-Man, though I'm not sure if much was borrowed from the 2099 version.

Speaking of Spawn, why doesn't he get any good games? There was that one on the Dreamcast I remember and it looked alright but I never played it.
