Sounds pretty bad, IMO. I guess I will see Thursday (Gamefly shipped it this morning).

Like as was said before, I want an Akrham Asylum-esque Spiderman game. Heck, in a lot of ways it almost felt like a Spiderman game at times.

This does seem to resemble AA in some ways, especially the Noir Spidey levels. Activision put this franchise into the ground, so hopefully this new studio does this franchise some justice and this different take is a good idea. Hopefully we get some impressions from those buying/renting.

          Re: Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

I'm playing it now, and enjoying it. Art styles are amazing, they aren't so unique and yet the same. Awesome job on the art. Gameplay styles are different as well, which keeps the game fresh. Voice overs are done well, and you will recognize Dr. Evil fairly quickly on as Spidey. Animations look great with Kraven's voice and facial expressions really done at a top notch level for the gaming industry.

Like the post above says, the worlds aren't wide open, but that's ok as the levels are big enough there's tons swinging room and the level design leads to a far more compelling Spider-man and story telling experience than simply swinging free in an open city with mundane side missions.

Gameplay mechanics are tight, with spidey sense playing a huge role. You'll quickly learn to defend (LT) or defend/roll away (LT + A), and then B (web sling) in for a quick attack (X, X, X), followed by the heavy (Y, Y) for a nice combo. You have to 'buy' your ability upgrades, so there are more available, but I took the easy route an unlocked the upgraded X, X, X, X (one more X). The game has great, and at times, awesome finishing moves for the bigger baddies, ala God of War, albeit not as gruesome.

The story is told well from the outset, with it actually making sense, well, comic book sense anyhow. It's something you can follow, which is something I was concerned about when I read it would span 4 different universes.

Early impression, SpiderMan fans will enjoy if not love the game and regular action gaming fans should find it well worth the gaming experience. Only say a buy right now for Spidey fans as I'm only a couple levels end.

My 2 hours of gameplay 2cents.

Too bad, you have a stealth Spider-Man where you stay in the shadows or in the rafters and sneak up on your enemies and quickly take them out. It's not to the level of Batman, but it's done well in it's own right and considering all of the gameplay mechanics in play across the 4 worlds (each of which could have easily been it's own game) you should be able to find something, if not the Batman'esque take-downs to be compelling enough to enjoy the game.

I absolutely love that they got different voices of Spidey from all kinds of Spidey cartoons to voice each version.

I love the Noir Universe. Such a different take on Spider-man and it's awesome.

So far only played the tutorial, and first stage of Amazing Universe and Noir Universe and so far I'm loving the game. Graphically I like it. Like the comic like art and the lighting and shadows are well done. Shows especially in the Noir level.

If you're a Spider-man fan then I recommend the game. Still early but as far as I can tell it is the best Spider-man game I've played so far. A lot of neat stuff and there are a lot of challenges and unlockables to go through.

Also, voice acting is solid for once. No surprise though as they got talent from almost all the past Spider-man cartoons. Story is solid as well so far. Nothing that will leave you hanging on the edge of the couch but solid in its right. Also, except plenty of the usual Spider-man jokes but this time they're actually funny at times unlike past games.

Can you play co-op with this game? I'd be interested if I could play with my son. Are there difficulty levels or a demo coming out soon?

I really dont get all the hate about the open world Spiderman. I mean yes they could of added more top it and more diverse side missions but overall I enjoyed the game. It would of been beter if they didnt follow the movie. Its like if a game copies the way it was done in the past it gets bitched about how they never really made any upgrades or got ambitious(Spell?) with it but when they do change stuff they get bitched at for doing something different.

Three difficulty levels and no co-op.

                        Re: Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

So is the story entirely linear as in Level 1-2 is Noir Spiderman and 2-1 is Spider 2099. Or can you select which Spiderman you want to use and then complete the levels for that particular Spiderman as you please?

So far it's linear, but linear in the sense you can't choose and it's always a different Spider-Man/World each level.

Candyman I'm with ya on that one. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the open ended spidey games. Matter of fact, I think that is what might stop me from getting this one, lol.

I picked it up yesterday, then put it back down on the shelf. Said to myself, lets wait and read some impressions and reviews. Everything seems to be good except for the linear aspect.

To be honest, I'm really waiting on another ultimate spider man. Everyone seems to not mention that one, hell, in my opinion Ultimate was the coldest spidey game ever developed.

Why do we still have games giving us a tutorial teaching us moves as basic as a square, square, square combo?

So far I'm not really feeling this game. The story is basic, simplistic and not at all compelling. The gameplay is mundane. I should stress the "so far", as I'm not very far into the game, but so far it's just so bland.
