Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Thanks for all the tips, guys. I'll just keep at it and hope I get the hang of it. It's fun anyway, one just needs a high tolerance for failure in these sorts of things...
Funny multiplayer story - I was playing Team Deathmatch last night, and I somehow (miraculously) got lucky and got the game-winning kill...basically, there was no skill involved - a guy spawned right in front of me and I had a nano-second of panic and my eyes got big, and then I just heavy-handedly emptied out an entire clip into the guy for the walk-off win. Straight-up noob type stuff (which is what I am...at shooters, anyway). Anyway, on the "Final Kill Cam" that everyone gets to see, the slow-mo makes the amount of lead I put into the guy look comical - I mean, it's obvious I shot him like 30 more times than necessary, and he was dead long before I emptied out at least 10-15 more rounds into him on the way down. So out of nowhere, I hear some random dude on my team, doing a DEAD-ON Chris Rock voice impersonation, crackle over the headset "DAMN!!! He Musta Done Sump'in!!!! He put $50,000 worth of bullets in his a*s!!!".
If you've seen the Chris Rock "Bigger & Blacker" HBO special, you will get the reference (language NSFW):

I must have laughed for about 20 minutes straight after that...I wish I could've somehow recorded the whole thing (audio intact), because it was so well-timed and dead-on. I'm still laughing about it this morning.Comment

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
First full match back after a hiatus was dominant. The highest sniper rifle is MUCH stronger now, it had to be, I was actually getting non-headshot one shot kills for the first time ever. Plus, a double headshot.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Game seems to be a little buggy on the PS3. When trying to select killstreaks, it defaulted (to some reason) to where I had both a Napalm and Care Package killstreaks.
...so, I put on my hardline pro and went to town. I got 6 care packages in a game of demolition (that I could throw down) and got 2 choppers/gunships, couple morter teams and I didn't even use hardline to change them. I was quite pleased.
On gameplay side, I got 4 kills in a row in second change as I was behind a crate and people kept coming to the downstairs demolition site in radiation. I ended up 73-18 or something, kinda Longhorn numbers there.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Was the patch today on Xbox live? Because I just got done playing and I still was getting assists from dropping people into Second Chance but teammates killing them off.
it never asked me to update anything either when I signed into Black Ops Multi-player.
(ok nvm found it myself, MS certification takes longer so patch will probably be on XBL tomorrow or later this week)Last edited by Feared; 01-26-2011, 12:38 AM.Minnesota Vikings

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
I think they should implement a system where it tries to match players in a lobby based on Score per minute, in the game type. So if you're in the 500-600 score per minute range in Domination when you go into that playlist it should try to match you up with players that have similar scores stat wise.
Obviously it wouldn't always be perfect matches because of people that play in parties, but it might be an improvement to give newer players a more level playing field.
But say in TDM, for instance: someone can have a high score per minute via rushing constantly all the time, but their k/d really isn't all that to write home about. Also, the "lower" score per minute players can be the extreme camper types as well. There are definitely some exceptions, but just in general.. those who camp hard (or play defensively, whatever you like to call it) will have a lower SPM then someone who rushes.
But, if you just meant Domination and other objective game types, if you match up "great" players against "great" players, there's no way they get their standard 500 SPM. It's just not possible unless there's a massive connection difference. Usually, most get their ridiculously high SPMs as a result of beating up on bad teams. So, their SPMs will drop back to "normalcy", if you will.
I do definitely like your idea though as it would allow for newer players to get their feet wet without being completely overwhelmed by someone who's been playing for a long time. I sorta wish they had like a playlist lobby (ie. something like Social Slayer in Halo?) where you can play around without worrying too much about stats. In general, playing alone is suicide and I often feel like the game's matchmaking system is like throwing darts.. completely random and you may end up with the worst team in history, or on a completely stacked team. I don't really like k/d as a barometer either, since there are a ridiculous number of dashboarders desperately trying to preserve their k/d.Comment

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
I downloaded the update for PS3 last night and then hopped on to play a few games of Domination. In addition to experiencing more freezes than I normally do, the first three games I played all ended after about 3-4 minutes and said the time limit was reached and the match was a draw. Finally the last game I played went the distance to the 200 score limit. Anybody experience this or know why there was suddenly a time limit? I've played hundreds of Domination matches and never before ran into a time limit.Comment

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Was fooling around trying different things last night. Shotgun w/ lightweight+marathon+ninja = fun. I got killed a hell of lot (bad K/D) because you basically have to run right up to guys to blast them, but it is a good time zooming around the map blasting guys with a shotty. Probably woulda helped if I knew the maps better, but still - it was a blast.
Then I tried to be a sniper for while, but man I am terrible with the sniping. A big part of it is that I just don't know where to go to find good sniping perches, which I guess entails just knowing the maps well really well. The other part is that unless someone is camping or running straight in a great wide open, I can never get a shot off before they go into a building or otherwise behind an obstruction. Very tough way to make a living in the game, although the guys that are good at it are frickin' deadly.Comment

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
I am getting so mad in Lag War...I always come up on some unsuspecting fools(groups of 2 or 3)...usually camping with their backs turned and I can't even kill one without him turning around and starting to shoot, so he moves around a while and I have to waste a whole clip to kill him and sometimes that person will throw a nade and it's all over...so frustrating. I wish there was still stopping power...or they could have upped the power of guns to stopping power- power....man.Comment
