Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops

I would have to say I like MW2 then MW1 (in that order) for single-player campaign fun, but for multiplayer maybe MW1 is actually a bit better. Obviously all opinion.

It's not you, LoWw....the game is like Halo at this point - you have to pound guys with 25 bullets before they go down (and then another 1/2 clip afterwards just in case they are 2nd Chance-ing). It's crazy, and more often than not just feels cheap. I never get ticked at video games or throw my controller or anything, but this game has me on the verge of breaking stuff more often than not. That's why I basically play exclusively Hardcore at this point, where it's more-or-less 1-shot kills. Just seems less cheap in general.

I am at level 50 now...thinking I might prestige and then call it a day on this game...

I'm on PS3 and I'm noticing the same thing. In the past week I've had multiple instances where I put 2-4 bullets in somebody above the waist and they still charge at me and knife me. Or moments where I put 2 or 3 bullets in someone and they hit me once and I'm the one who gets killed. I'm trying to hold out for the new maps, but I'm thinking that trading BOps for MW2, which I've never played, is a better move.

If those things bother you about Blops, stay far away from MW2.
OMA tubing, commando knifing,etc.-MW2 is in far worse shape right now.
The PS3 version is also hacked so badly there is some consideration of a patch at this point.

On the plus side, the lack of recoil and addition of Stopping Power make every weapon essentially a death laser compared to Blops.

I am not experiencing this at all.If you're emptying entire clips at people, that may be part of your problem right there(trigger discipline).
Try burst firing your full auto weapons, and watch your 3-4 shot kills rise exponentially.
Otherwise, are you getting at least 3 bar connection consistently?

The one thing I am seeing is the inevitible melting away of "cannon fodder" type players.

Ah, thanks for that. If I trade in BOps, I'll stay away from MW2. Oddly enough, I had a good two hours playing Domination last night with K/D around 1 (I don't care too much about K/D in most objective games) and minimum of seven caps or defends in each game.

Am I better off using M16 or G11 for the 3 burst fire? I will also try the 3 burst with the Assault rifles. I have 4 bar connections the majority of the time, that's why I'm confused about this unloading a full clip into someone just to get a kill!!

Good point....but I usually play w/ some amount of trigger discipline (I mainly play Hardcore), and when I occasionally stray back to regular modes the difference just seems stark - you really have to put a number of shots into people before they go down (and then some if they are 2nd-chance-ing). The gap between stopping power in regular vs hardcore is really stunning, and for me at least, makes regular modes hard to play.

I agree that there is less cannon fodder, because I have been cannon fodder for the majority of my time with the game, and only recently am I getting a little smarter about how I play. Although frankly, any improvement is mainly due to just knowing the maps better and where to watch out for ambushes, and having better equipment...not sure anything else has really improved. And since I consider myself one of the worst FPS players on the planet, if I'm getting better I know everyone else is too.

The burst fire weapons are a good choice when wedded to a more deliberate play-style.They are a trickier proposition in close quarters.
Definitely use them for area denial or overwatch-type play.

With any full auto weapon, you can just tap or double tap the trigger to get a similar effect. This minimizes recoil and allows the gun to recenter quicker.
Of course,in the heat of battle, this is easier said than done .

Recoil is a bigger deal with this game than MW2 and adjusting your technique will help.

Also,hip-firing is much more important in Blops. It's hard to not ADS in a quick one on one encounter, and the time it takes to do so usually leads to you losing that encounter.

Yeah, you are applying your HC technique to Core...it's really two different animals.Usually, guys greatly prefer one or the other.

There is a learning curve to CoD games, and you have to put in the time.
For some folks, they don't want to,or it's not fun.To me,there is no greater satisfaction in video gaming than defeating real humans in this type of game, where the AI doesn't play a part.

Dom is a great game-type to work out the kinks and build confidence.
Those type of numbers you put up are good.
Too bad a lot of Domination players think they are playing Deathmatch.

I know what you mean - I absolutely hate it when I get on a team where I'm the only one trying to secure objectives. I end up getting killed like 50 times, and on the final scoreboard I'm way down and it looks like I'm a total waste (which I sometimes am), but in reality I got killed so much because I was the only one trying to smoke out the other team from headquarters sites or domination spots (or defending them), while everyone else on the team just camps out 20 miles from the objectives....which I know because after I die I see them just sitting there in a corner not moving, and I want to reach through the screen and throttle them....

That's what annoys me about domination. I see it a lot, though, when people play Domination just to get their K/D ratio up.

In one of the games I played last night on Firing Range, my team won and I was the top player with like 16/13 K/D and something like 6 caps and 5 defends. The other team had a guy go something like 53/7 K/D with no caps or defends. Part of that is because he got an attack helicopter, but he should still try to play the objective a little bit.

For me the 2nd most important skill besides knowledge of map layout is being able to look at where your teammates are and knowing from that where the enemy is spawning from. I always go to where my teammates are not. This is for TDM

I got rid of this yesterday and picked up Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. So far I'm liking it a lot more than Black Ops.
