If Gamestop ever tries to sell me a new game with the game out of its case, I always end up leaving and getting it from Best Buy instead.

Re: stuck it to the Man (Gamestop)
i agree...u were buying a cheaper game. they werent gonna make a ******** amount of dough on it anyway...meaning they paid some kid $12 for trade in and sold it to u for $17.
now if u played em on a game that was $55 used and then opted for the new copy...THAT would've been sticking it to them cuz u wouldve only made them $5 instead of the $30+ they wouldve gotten...and why i HATE them. they should be a little more fair on trade in values. i tend to keep my games...only time i trade is when they give extra 25-30% promotions. that way they bring the games into what i deem a "somewhat fair value"
going to do this in the future. i'm having to learn these things through experienceComment

Re: stuck it to the Man (Gamestop)
I hardly ever only buy games from one place. Retailers seem to be quick on the competitive deals, and while I usually don't preorder, Amazon occasionally offers credit for doing so. I'd rather get cash towards other purchases than a level or multiplayer character that developers made a gamestop exclusive.Comment

Re: stuck it to the Man (Gamestop)
I gave up on gamestop a few years ago, and even best buy at this point.
Amazon is the way to go. get $10 or $20 dollar credits for future game purchases when preordering most big titles (red dead redemption currenty gives a $20 gift card, madden 11 gives a $20 game credit). I got AC2 back in Nov for 52.99 i think it was, had a $5 off coupon code from them, and got a $20 preorder bonus on a future game. Add no tax and free shipping, and I saved a TON of money.
And if the game isnt coming with a preorder bonus, it is always cheaper. Most new titles are in the 50-56 range, with no tax (at least to IL) and free shipping. Even older titles are cheaper...left for dead 2 currently is 39.99 at best buy and gamestop, and 34.99 used at gamestop. New at amazon is 26.99.
I only trade in last years sports games at this point, but amazon gives much better value as well. I sold madden and ncaa 10 to them about a month ago, each in the 20-25 range. I don't know what gamestop was giving at that point, but I feel pretty confident saying it was probably only around 10.Comment

Re: stuck it to the Man (Gamestop)
I really don't have any problems with my local Gamestops, it's just this practice that irks the heck out of me. I know they're a business and one of their jobs is to turn a profit, but at least give your customers fair value. Most of the time when I do buy from them it's an older used title but never a "new" used game. The majority of my business with them is done on title trade-ins when I can trade them for the bonus 25-30% promos which I feel at least I get some value out of or the trade two get new for $20 promos they do (as they currently have with Red Dead).A negative mind will never give you a positive life.

Re: stuck it to the Man (Gamestop)
For new releases Amazon has been the way to go lately. Some retailers have been offering the $10-20 gift cards too.
The only time I buy new from Gamestop is if its paid for with trade-ins or they offer extra cash to trade-in for a new game (like they did with Madden 11 in March)Comment
