Re: 15 Most Annoying Levels in Video Game History
I haven't played Top Gun since I rented it about 20 years ago but I guess that speaks for how much it resonated with me, because I distinctly recall the frustration that came with trying to land that plane.
And it is kind of therapeutic to know that others shared my agony for the TMNT underwater level. Every now and again I'd show up at a friends' house and see them driving the Turtle Van around and I was always in awe because I'd never reached that moment in the game because of the stupid underwater level.Comment

The TMNT Water level wasn't too bad after you knew where all the bombs were at. I played that game a lot, so I got good at it.
Battle Toads was crazy, I remember beating the bike level, but I don't think I ever beat the game. I don't think I owned that one and had to use the game genie to get that far.
Contra and Mike Tyson were hard but beatable. I remember playing Top Gun, but can't remember having problems landing.Comment

On Veteran it is pretty annoying, but I personally thought the mission with the Nuke going off was worse.Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

Re: 15 Most Annoying Levels in Video Game History
Top Gun being on this list is no joke at all. It is one of the hardest things I have ever played. Like the guy said, the gunplay isn't too bad and shooting down the planes was actually pretty fun in the '80's. However, it was RIDICULOUS trying to land the plane. I finally gave up after about 100 hours (at least it seemed that long at age 12), and I'm not sure I landed that plane more than twice.Comment

And Battletoads...I've wasted a good year of my life trying to beat that dang game, never done it.
I'm surprised T2 Arcade game where you have to protect the truck isn't on that list. I still haven't beaten that and probably never will.Too Old To Game Club

Wow, this list is absolutely on point. Great job.
The only thing I remember about Top Gun is the sound. Never knew what they said, it was all muffled. "Take off!" or something. We played the game two player every now and then and I always got wrecked.
Rainbow Road... ha, yes. We had a name for it ourselves. F*** Road. Simple, to the point.
Gunstar Heroes is an amazing game, but we usually played on lower difficulties so we could actually get through it without throwing a controller at/through an object. My favorite part was the end. Loved fighting Curry & Rice. What great times!
That Battletoads level was the source of many fights. One person could always make it, the second person would always fail.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds
