Re: Twisted Metal (PS3)
The individual story modes for each character was always a major draw for me. The endings were so outlandish, and then the added backstory clips in Black were awesome. This "only three campaigns" really bums me out. Especially because, barring a major redesign of the characters, Dollface/Darkside and Sweetooth handle and play pretty much the same.Comment

Re: Twisted Metal (PS3)
Not only is the 3 man story mode disappointing, but they choose two of the worst characters to use for it too in Mr Grimm and Darkside.
I wanna know how a pimp can get flames shooting out the front of his car and Grasshopper can get his/her car to jump high and be a heat seeking death trap.Too Old To Game Club

David Jaffe Talks Twisted Metal with Loot Ninja
So there I am, strolling past the Sony booth at E3 after playing Killzone 3 and Gran Turismo 5 when I happen upon David Jaffe. I walked over, introduced myself, and proceeded to have a nice talk about Twisted Metal. Thankfully, I had turned on my voice recorder and the talk turned into an interview about the game. David Jaffe revealed his thoughts on class and team based play in the game, what he learned from failure, and how Twisted Metal on the PS3 will provide fun for people with or without a headset or if you want to just go Lone Wolf on the game. Read on for all the juicy details, my friends.
Loot Ninja: So, big reveal on stage. You guys have been working on this for a long time at Eat Sleep Play and haven’t been able to talk about it. How does it feel to be able to finally tell people you’re working on Twisted Metal for the PS3?
David Jaffe: It feels great! What honestly felt better, though, was really kind of the reception and knowing that it’s been so long since we had a full featured Twisted Metal. It’s been ten years, and the fact that there are still fans that have received it so warmly given how much has changed in video games since the first Twisted Metal, we kind of didn’t know if there was gonna be room for it, so that was the best. That was the best feeling.
LN: We’ve got helicopters in here, we got the new Nuke mode. What else can you tell us about the game that we didn’t see in the [Sony] press conference or isn’t playable on the floor?
Jaffe: Well we did a little stuff with the press earlier about Nuke mode. And the thing that excites me the most on Nuke mode is I like the vibe and the mentality and kind of the twisted take on Capture the Flag. But what I really like, and we didn’t show this in the press conference that much, is how most of the cars are designed to really bring out team based play in that mode. So, for example, we have a tow truck that you can activate a special and it has a huge taxi cab behind him that he can fling at enemies, but he also can do his own special which drops health onto the level. We have a helicopter that drops a magnet and will actually let you pick up a faction leader or pick up a car. It’s actually trying to sacrifice the faction leader in the battle. We have a number of sort of, I guess support, in both offense and defense sort of classes that really make this a totally unique Twisted Metal mode So besides Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, variations on those modes, what’s cool is there’s this whole other way to play the game that we never had before so when you buy Twisted [Metal]. There’s going to be so many ways to play that multiplayer, be it split screen or online. I’m so excited to give the players so many options to enjoy the game, so that’s pretty cool.
LN: The last Twisted Metal had only some online multiplayer capability. You had [Twisted Metal] Black back in the day, then you guys worked on Calling All Cars. What did you really learn from that to bring into this to really enhance the multiplayer experience?
Jaffe: Well, I mean, the biggest thing I learned was you can never put enough stuff on the disk. So the first thing we did to get the company up and running was a port of Twisted Metal Head On and we packed that disk so full of extras and levels. Because the lesson we learned on Calling all Cars was “It’s 10 bucks, 3 levels we should be fine”. And gamers were like “**** you mother ****ers,” and they were right. We learned that it’s like when you think you’ve put enough content in, put in more. Because people spend their hard earned money and they want value, so I think that’s why you see so many modes and variations on those modes in the new Twisted Metal. I learned that. I learned that failure is not bad and it will actually take you to the next level if you allow yourself to learn from it. [Calling All Cars] wasn’t a failure, but it wasn’t a level of success that we wanted it to be. I think if you look at Nuke mode, there’s some similarities between that and Calling All Cars and we’ve tried to sort learn from the failures of aspects of game design and apply it to the new Nuke mode. So, there are a lot of lessons in that.LN: Nuke mode is really team based. How do you think that’s going to work as a lot of gamers on PS3 don’t have headsets? Sometimes you get matched up with people that just want to go lone wolf. How do you think that’s going to impact? Because this looks like it could be very long if people aren’t working together. You could be there for an hour.
Jaffe: We got guys on the team that are like “**** it, I only want is Deathmatch, dude, that’s all I want.” And that’s great. We got that for them. We’ve got Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch. We’ve got different ways to score in those modes. We’ve got host options in those modes. We’ve got other unannounced modes that totally play to the lone wolf gamers out there who don’t want to play with teams. But I wanted to make sure there was at least one mode that was about class-like play. That’s not like class, like Team Fortress. It’s not that ****ing class, but it’s got elements of class based play, team based play, and I kind of figured we need to support all kinds of gamers. And for me, I like the idea of getting online with a party of my friends or a clan that I make, a Twisted Metal clan, and going head to head. Now is that going to be the most popular mode? Because you’re right, there are a lot of gamers who don’t want to wear the headset, don’t want to do that stuff. Maybe not, but it’s there for them. And other gamers can play other modes.
LN: Last question — of all you’ve seen at the show, what’s your favorite game or favorite accessory, peripheral, anything like that?
Jaffe: I think the most fun game at this show is flirting with [PR specialist] Melissa. There you go. Haha.Comment

Thats exactly how i feel. I played through every character in black just to watch the final "twisted" outcome of the story. 3 characters for single player story? Ughh...i hate this trend of single player games slowly getting shorter and shorter and there being more of a online multiplayer focus. Im not a huge fan of online multiplayer. Reason number 1 being i suck at most games online. I play to enjoy and get somewhat of a challenge and get engrossed in a story. Not get pwned by some 12 year old who plays the game 60 hours a week. But its all about the $$$$(DLC).Comment
