What's funny is all the bitching about how BioWare "cashed in" by making a sequel what, eighteen months after the first? Aren't we hearing about Mass Effect 3 being less than two years from the second one? Gee, once you establish the universe and the gameplay, who'd of thunk a sequel could come so fast?

I'm loving the game, while it's not as good as the first (due to the fast combat, the lack of worldly adventure, etc) it's still a solid game, and I can't wait for the ending, the chance to do things as a Templar loving bastard on replay, and the sequel in 2012 (you know it's coming).

I'm playing as a Mage and I'm loving it. I chose a good Mage as with games I'm usually good. Besides I have Merrill as a blood Mage.

DA2 Mages are pretty fun...I never play as Mages (or really play fantasy type RPGs....but getting more interested), but in DA2 it plays out pretty well and is a lotta fun, my favorite by far.

As for personalities, it depends on you and how much you dig the story/moment. I just play it by ear and Bioware (obviously) does it right, where decisions feel meaningfully regardless of whatever you decide.

Is there any way to respec in this game? If so, does it allow you to respec your companions as well? I'd like to respec a few of them, as I don't always follow the tree that the companion already has points in.

I believe Candyman posted a way to respec a few pages back.. Some item you can buy in the Black Emporium

i really really hate how the armor system works for your companions....its just random in how they get upgrades...theres an achievement in Steam where you need to upgrade them fully and the damn game doesnt even clue you in on how to do that...god i miss the first one where i could just pick up a nice set of armor and just give it to them...

In every act go around to all the shops and check the "Other" section for their armor upgrades. Also, a few will be found on personal companion quests.

EXILE PRINCE DLC IS A MUST, I REPEAT A MUST DLC FOR YOUR SECOND PLAY THROUGH.

I will tell you why:

1. You get a TON of back ground story about the tension between the templars and mages.

I got to meet Lelianna !!! She is working for the Divine now. You meet her in the Keep at the beginning of Act 3. Her code name is Sister Nightenagale. When you walking into the visicount's chambers you get attacked by mages.

Then Lelianna comes out of no where killing them. After everybody is dead she tells you who she is and that she was with the Grey Warden and hero of Ferilden during the Blight war. But now she is the left hand of the Divine.

That the Divine had long thought the 1st Enchanter Orsalis was part of this Fringe group of the Circle called the Resolutionists. These people were hell bent on starting a Holy War and wanted to rid the world of all templars and circles.

Not only that, Leilanna then tells you to tell the Grand Cleric to leave Kirkwall because she isn't safe there. I tell the Grand Cleric all of this and she still refuses to leave, saying nobody is that bold to attack her in the Chantry.

I was like wow !!!!!!!

2. So my sister is a Grey Warden now. She came back during the Quanari war on the streets with 3 other Grey Wardens kicking butt. Then later on when I went back to the Deep Roads on the find Nathaniel Howel mission, she was in the Deep Roads with a bunch of Grey Wardens.

Then Nate and her goes on to tell me that I went deeper then anybody ever thought was possible. And the Grey Wardens are looking for something down there that is very important to the Wardens. Then he goes on talking about The Archiet, who for some magical reason is STILL ALIVE, don't know how the hell that happened considering I killed him in Awakenings.

Then he goes on talking about the Grey Wardens are now allies with some group, but won't say who. You ask who the dwarves and Nate says ummm no, some other these are strange and unique times.

Then you get attacked by 3 giant orgres and 25 darkspawn. So I am watching Bethany and Nate kicked butt. Battle rages on and then some more Grey Wardens come in to join the fight. You kill everybody, then they say we have to go. Grey Wardens leave and you go back to the surface.

What the hell, your uncle has side quests ?? holy crap Act 3 is MUCH longer then I thought it was.......Look around people, lots of hidden story line quests and information floating throughout the city.

So in the beginning of Act 3 after I meet Leianna, I go to my uncle's house. There is a note on the table, I read it and it is for you uncle talking about some great treasure.

So you do about 4 quests going from place to place looking for it. Every place is a trap full of enemies and another note. During the 4th location you found out you have a female cousin !!!!!!

Gamlin had a daughter he never knew about.......wow.

I also found a note on the ground in Dark town. It talks about the Seekers. They are the military wing of the Divine. They over see the templars and mages. When the templars can't keep the mages in line, they are the clean up crew.

I'm going to go ahead and say it, this game is better than the first one. It looks better, the combat is better, and the interpersonal relationships are better than the first.

So, after beating it I decided to play through again, but I'm having some difficulties (general spoilers from the entire game)

My first playthrough I was a rogue, siding with the mages and playing a "good" guy (I'm always the helpful nice guy in RPGs, not sure why). So I decided my second playthrough I would be a no-nonsense, what's in it for me, 2-hand warrior (since it seemed there were so many powerful 2-hand weapons at the end of the game) that sides with the Templars (so pretty much a diametric opposite of my first). However, I'm having a hard time doing that, it feels unnatural for the character and I think the problem lies in Bethany. They start you off close with your apostate sister, making it impossible to side with anyone other than the mages, who is too nice to be that close to a selfish jackass. Then they give you Aveline as your first companion, who turns out to be the captain of the ******* guard and Varric who, while a rogue by class, isn't happy with you unless you are a nice guy. I'm not even sure who I would fill my party out with for this playthrough, I know they will still follow you even if they hate you but I can't justify that myself and if I can't do that it's not going to feel natural and I'm not going to enjoy it.

I know much later I will be given some justification for going against the mages, when my mother is killed by the serial killer blood mage, but by that time I've spent 3/4s of the game telling everyone that not all mages are bad and you shouldn't punish all for the actions of a few.

Maybe it's just me but, despite thinking an alternate playthrough would be nice, there's just no way to justify anything other than the way my first play turned out.
