EA exploring Battlefield subscription service

EA Games head Patrick Soderlund says company is considering new ways to "maximize...investment" in shooter series.

The Battlefield series may one day offer a subscription service. EA Games executive vice president Patrick Soderlund told Venturebeat that the company is exploring such a model for its marquee shooter franchise.
The Battlefield series may offer a subscription service one day, according to Soderlund.

"I think it's fair to say that we're looking at that," he said. "Like all other companies, we're looking at how we can maximize our investment in this, get the most out of our investment, and get more people playing this product. That may take us to different places, but we're not really talking about where that is yet."
EA competitor Activision launched a Call of Duty subscription service, called Call of Duty Elite, last year. A $50 premium annual subscription gives gamers access to all Modern Warfare 3 downloadable content, as well as other perks.
Asked if EA is aiming to take the Call of Duty franchise down with Battlefield, Soderlund said the markets for both games are different and focusing on quality will lead to greater sales for the publisher.
"When it comes to taking Call of Duty down, you know what? I don't look at it like that. We are in this business because we want to make the best possible products," he said. "Call of Duty is a shooter, but it's a different shooter. And I think they have a market; we have a market. I'm fine with what I'm doing. I'm going to continue innovating and doing as best as I can with my teams. Hopefully, that's going to lead us to more units [sold] and more happy consumers."

Just discovered Hardcore mode. Interesting to say the least. This game definitely growing on me.

Can some give me some tips on how to approach RUSH, I am really confused and my teammates don't have mic's.

I understand Conquest, but still need lots of practice.

Hardcore is the only way to go for me. I dont mess with that rookie mode. You end up wasting rounds on obvious kill shots even with a 7.62 NATO round. If your on 360 im always down for games.


Oh and playing w/o mic is dumb. No point in being in a squad with no talking, lol

As far as advice just play the objective, always help your teamates and kill, kill, kill, lol


One of my favorite things to do in the Support class is to shoot at someone then run to cover after already having claymores placed. And boom!! Good times. I'll drop a claymore anywhere, Spawn point, beacon, flag, hallway, stairs, behind parked vehicles.

Actually, contrary to what another dev said before, Rush looks to be out in the next DLC. Instead there will be a Conquest variant called Conquest Domination

We understood quickly that Rush, being a large and progressive mode that takes you on a journey from M-COM to M-COM, simply wouldn’t fit physically.

Inspired by these memories, we used the spawning systems from Battlefield 3 Team Deathmatch and came up with a Conquest mode adapted for smaller spaces. We called it Conquest Domination, and it worked beautifully. In particular, flag defense is suddenly more important, and you get different tactical layers due to the subtle differences the new mode provides. It’s reminiscent of those tactics I practiced to perfection in my e-sports days. Listen for the footsteps, spray the wall, throw your grenade, cover one angle each and constantly communicate. The experience grows with our tried and tested squad play mechanics, and the intensity and pure challenge of trying to dominate these close quarters is something I’m convinced will put even the best squads to the test.

This just gets better everyday......by the time this game is complete with all the packs , modes, guns etc there will be nothing this game doesnt have .

Can someone tell me what is Domination? My friend actually calls Conquest "Domination" when he plays BF3, so what are the similarities/differences?

Domination on Call of Duty is similar to Conquest on a much smaller scale. It consists of 3 flags and you win by capturing and holding the majority of them. The B flag was always in the middle of the map and the fight usually centered around it.

If a team captured all three flags, the spawns for the opposing team became random like TDM. The most effective way to win was to capture your starting flag and B flag and spawn trap them at their flag. There was no home spawn (safe) area.

LOL, seriously though, BF3 looks like it's becoming a monster. This is all interesting and potentially great, just don't kill the Golden Goose, EA (I'm not keen on subscription fees for a game).

It's been awhile, but wasn't TDM 8v8 in COD, and 12v12 in BF3? Except Ground War was 12v12 too IIRC.

Man,the balancing last night was HORRIBLE,played a few rounds of rush and was constantly put on teams of 10-6 or 9-4 absolutely terrible.

My last game was on Kharg Island and it was something like 5-5 or 4-4 or something ridiculous like that...not sure why the servers never filled up but it was pretty crazy. I believe I went something like 47-26 (or something like that) it was only me and another guy going for the objectives,I've got to get hooked up with a squad,as playing with randoms is terrible.
