I guess that's not too surprising. Heavy Rain wasn't in 720p I don't think (they had some really low res textures in that game), nor was Halo 3, or FFXIII on 360.

I just saw the last one that was posted. It wasn't official though. I don't think the PS3 version was simply "ported", so I will hold off until I see something official.

Heavy Rain was 1280x720 (2xAA), it is just not all the textures were of high res themselves. But it was rendering native at 720p.

This is a good site here where people get the resolutions and sampling through the frame buffers with some cool tricks.

        (360) Final Fantasy XIII = 1024x576 (2xAA)

        (PS3) Final Fantasy XIII = 1280x720 (2xAA)

That is why I really laughed when CoD developers combated back with the trash talking saying their game runs at 60FPS. Guys, you are not even 720p native... and your engine looks dated compared to other modern shooters that run 720p on both consoles. But the average gamer will not know that, so it was a good marketing spin I guess.

I was shocked when watching a Giant Bomb Quick Look to find out that the technology behind CoD's engine comes from id Tech 3.

            Yeah. Most don't know that.

I knew it was as a huge PC gamer, cause the CoD engine was from the Quake 3 (id tech 3), and they just heavily modified it to get better textures, etc.

That is why it feels so darn dated to me, cause it still has the same "feel" and certain looks since those days.

It is like putting new paint on an old Buick, still gonna drive the same, and underneath is starting to age a lot.

This game (BF3) however looks amazing, and the sounds are second to none.

Is anyone else leaving the MW/COD series for this? I'll be new to the BF series so I don't really know what to expect. I did play the most recent Medal of Honor game and enjoyed the campaign, but hated the multiplayer. Is BF multiplayer like that? Perhaps ironically, I found the sound in MoH to be one of its strongest assets, really good (and better than COD), yet EA can't get the sound right in some of their sports titles.

Anyway, if anyone is playing on PS3 and wants to add me feel free, my gamertag is my username. All of my friends are, unfortunately, sticking with the MW series so I'll be left alone to bask in BF3's supposed glory. I just feel "done" with MW's multiplayer--to me, the original MW (COD4) is still my favorite multiplayer experience.

I should add--I really want to upgrade my computer and play this on the PC, I just need to find a couple grand and build my dream system haha.

I left the COD/MW series a few years ago. It just got stale and to "gamey" for me. I've bought them used just to see if it was more to my liking each year but it always went back after I finished the story or got too bored with it. I know it appeals to a lot of people but it just got old for me.

I'm not leaving the CoD Series for BF, but I'd prefer BF over CoD. I still enjoy both franchises, but for different reasons.

Okay, I have a question about the Beta. What am I going to have to do to get into the beta whenever it comes out? I have a 360 so is it just going to be like a demo that I can download from the Marketplace or what?

I love Battlefield, but prefer the way COD plays to what Battlefield has become. BF 1942 was one of the best experiences I'd ever had in a shooter, but then as BF evolved, less people played for the team and more played for themselves, ruining what BF is all about. Not to mention Dice themselves have ruined what Conquest used to be, hoping BF3 is back to the 1942 and BF2 way instead of the Bad Company 1/2 way.

What is the difference between the two? I haven't played BF for the computer before so all I've really played is BF: Modern Combat and the two Bad Companies.

You don't like that BF has gone away from team based gameplay, but you enjoy CoD?

That is why you get involved with a good squad or a good group of friends.

They have plenty of servers on the PC where people squad up, mic up, and go at it with some fantastic teamwork. Even with total strangers. Most get clan invites too when they are strangers but work together well.

Call of Duty and Halo ever since the console FPS push has changed the landscape with gamers, to be all out for themselves. Rambo! padding my K/Ds! Which will bleed into other games of different types on the consoles. More often than the PC.

Just one of the demographics that separate the average console player, and core PC player.

Thus PC version is gold for me, and then the PS3 version for people on here who want to game up how it is meant to be played, and some people I game with who work for SCEA.

BC2 on the PC played every bit of teamwork as the others before it... only thing that we all missed that as hardcore BF2 players, was the larger maps and jets/chopper play. And that is all coming back in BF3.

                            For BF2/3:

Much, much larger maps. More strategy with control points and squad based teamwork to control them, especially with 64 players on a server at once. Jets and chopper dog fights, Anti Aircraft placements, better vehicle based combat, etc. All on the map at the same time. Intense war-like action.

This may have just been the final straw for me getting the PC version over the console. I always play the console version for a month then get tired of twitchy gameplay and no teamwork in games.

Same here... I played a bit of BC2, and at first was good, but everyone acted like CoD players.

Bought the PC version off Steam, and never looked back. I can be selective of the servers, they are dedicated and most low ping ones have zero lag. And the PC gaming demographic for those games are far more team oriented.

The difference was night and day. There is also hardcore servers, all different option servers... deathmatch style for your CoD play style, etc. It has a bit of everything.

It made me feel every bit as "part of a team" as I did when I was huge into BF2. Just missed the larger maps and air combat. Was slightly there with Vietnam and the chopper, but was no where near the feeling of BF2. Since the map was small, and the chopper utterly pointless for "transport" like in BF2 with the massive maps. So I am glad the roots are returning for BF3 with some of the nice upgrades BC2 ushered in!
