I'm not too sure about BF3 unfortunately because it's missing a ton of features that everyone loved in older Battlefield games, but it's still going to be heavily dependent on the teamwork. Battlefield isn't all about the kills. You can top the leaderboard with 0 kills and 30 deaths just by helping other people out - dropping ammo/medkits, reviving people, repairing vehicles or being a good chopper pilot.

A perfect example of teamwork happened yesterday when I was playing BF2. I was in a jet but it got destroyed so I bailed out on the edge of a map (it would take minutes for me to get back into action from there). So I sent a vehicle drop request to my squad leader, he forwarded my request further to our commander and 20 seconds later I was driving full speed in a buggy. It felt awesome

What's missing in comparsion to Bad Company 2? That's the only Battlefield game I have ever played.

I think he was referring to BF2 more than anything. I'm not entirely sure the whole commander request thing is in BF3. Have a look on youtube at some BF2 gameplay to see what I mean. Hard to explain it

In comparison to Bad Company 2 probably nothing (except a decent minimap), but BC2 isn't generally considered a part of BF series.
The sad thing is that DICE are making BF3 even more "casual" than BC2, which was already very dumbed down from BF2/1942/2142.

Can't say I agree with ya there. I played the crap out of BF2 and the Special Forces expansion. Great game, but definitely not more "realistic" than what I've seen in Bad Company 2 or the BF3 beta.

In BF2 maps like Karkand were 'nade spamming dolphin diving fests but a lot of fun. I think the series is improving every release.

More Evidence of a Battlefield 3 Day One Patch?

Battlefield 3 day one patch is everything but confirmed.
Earlier this month, in an interview with Strategy Informer, Patrick Liu agreed that Battlefield 3 will “probably” have a day one patch, which “will include feedback from the beta”. Patrick Bach also suggested the possibility of having a patch on release day. He clarified to VG247, “we [DICE] will still have time to do, day one patches and changes to the Battlelog that will actually be game-changing.” Now, onto more concrete evidence. Microsoft’s Major Nelson publishes a weekly round-up of all the new content coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace. The preview Major Nelson publishes includes game releases, DLC, and avatar goodies. However, in this week’s update, under the avatar section, one item stood out, which is a “Battlefield 3 update” going live on 25th of October (same as the launch day of BF3 in North America). Last week, EA published Battlefield 3 avatars, but it’s not common for avatars to get updated, let alone on the release date of the respective title. This leaves us with the day one patch for Battlefield 3. We speculate that this will also be the case for all other platforms.

Yes and the sprinting is not unlimited in BF2. So it takes a while to get somewhere on your feet.

I didn't say BF2 is more realistic. BF3 has much better visuals, audio and infantry fights (guns are accurate, no grenade spam). But at the same time DICE/EA made so many controversial decisions it's mind-boggling. Things like 4 man squads, spawning on everyone (what's the point of a squad leader now?), no commander, underpowered vehicles, enemies showing up on the minimap when they shoot (hello COD), mobile spawnpoints (hello COD), et cetera. Definitely not improving in terms of gameplay in my opinion.

Question for you guys (I haven't read through thread so sorry if it's been asked)

Is Battlefield 3 a continuation of BFBC2? Like, are the single player campaigns connected like Modern Warfare, etc?

                              Ha. Short answer no.

Long answer - Battlefield never really put much effort into their single player campaign until the Bad Company series. But Bad Company was/is an offshoot off the original Battlefield series. I remember my initial impressions of the trailer for Bad Company 1 was they were trying to give "personality" to a Battlefield type framework (which also kept me from buying it). Anyway Battlefield 3 is an official Battlefield game, thus does not carry the battlefield bad company storyline. If there will be a continuous storyline, it will begin with BF3.
