LOL another shot at Call of Duty.
Even in the beta I saw people dying from fallen trees and parts of buildings falling on them. Pretty funny seeing someone getting taken out by a chunk of concrete. I think it adds a nice element to the game.

Nemesis, I think he was referring to the title Battlefield used for the video taking shots at COD campers.

I've noticed that they aren't afraid to take a shot at the COD series. I remember in BFBC2 single player some of the crazy dialogue the group would have when you let the game sit for a few, lol. I think they even made mention in gameplay about some sorry arse heartbeat sensors, lol. They make no bones about it either, I saw an ad the other day for BF3 that said Battlefield 3 "Above and Beyond the Call"

As much as I severely suck at multiplayer, I'm looking forward to this one!

Oh I know that, a bunch of games take shots at each other in dialogue... but as far as that video itself, campers are in EVERY FPS game, so I do not see a direct shot at CoD itself, rather a shot at all FPS games that have no destructible environments or proper bullet penetration. Even this game series itself has campers, thus you can not hide behind the walls too much, just as in BC2.

Agreed, that is really cool, was fun in BC2 bringing buildings down on top of guys, but it seems way more robust in the new version of their engine. So looks to be way more fun in that area.

Ahh I gotcha. I see what you're saying now. I was judging directly from the title which is definitely marketed to grab eyeballs and generate views. I agree that the video didn't do anything to take direct shots at CoD but more or less show off some of the things that don't exist in other FPSs.

What I hope they fix from the beta is if you lay in front of concrete wall, like in the park area, if you throw a med pack while taking cover and throw it right at the wall it breaks the wall, at first I thought someone was blowing it up trying to get me so I backed up and threw another one and it blew again. So I realized it was me since there was no one shooting at me no more haha.

I get that I just need to find a core group of players to play with because, as mentioned above, I always find my way onto the non-teamwork teams.
This is why i really hopethey remove the k/d scores from the final scoreboard. It puts too much emphasis on individual performance to a point where people either don't want to look bad or have that"i did my job" mentality with a high ratio. High k/d doesn't have as much affect in this game.

Being somewhat new to online shooters, I must confess that maintaining a high K/D ratio seemed to be an important part of the beta for me. Usually if I tried to go after an objective or help with one, I would die over and over and over, was frustrating. I seemed to be having a lot more fun shooting and killing anything that moved LOL .... once the retail hits I plan on working on my team work skills more....

Is it bad that the first thing I thought about was the open areas on the map would be a good place for a golf course?

I've never played any of the BF's but I played the Beta and I preordered this instead of COD, of which I own 3. I have always been more of an objective player, with a lower K/D ratio. COD doesn't reward you for caputuring objectives, accomplishing goals or promote much teamwork. I'm looking forward to BF3 because I think it fits my style better and I the game was just freakin' fun to play.

This pretty much sums up how I am as well. And looking forward to it for the same reasons! Rewarding for objectives and being a "role player" for your team/s, and it is just so damn fun, especially with vehicles and destructible environments!

I agree with you especially when your the attackers as your constantly trying to get the objective so you will die alot more. I think they should put your overall kills and points just remove the deaths from the overall scoreboard with you only seeing your own k/d. I think the 1943 scoreboard was like that. When playing BF:BC2 I would not have many kills at times but I would be near the top of the scoreboard because I was repairing, supplying or healing alot keeping things moving forward.

                                WORKING TITLE> OILFIELDS
                                DICE INTERNAL DESIGNATION> MP012

                                BRIEF> ALL-OUT DESERT WARFARE

FICTION> U.S. AND RUSSIA LAUNCH LARGE-SCALE ASSAULTS TO CONTROL IRAN’S BIGGEST SOURCE OF OIL. SECURING THIS AREA WILL OFFER FULL CONTROL OF THE SECTOR AND ITS KEY FACILITIES.

NIKLAS ÅSTRAND’S DESIGN THOUGHTS: One of our largest and most vehicle-friendly map, Operation Firestorm is the classic Battlefield gameplay taken to the extremes. Size-wise, and with some puzzle skills, you could actually place three Atacama Deserts -- one of the largest maps from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 -- within the playable area of Operation Firestorm. This is a wide-open desert map where the burning oil fields in one direction are contrasted by clear blue sky in the other direction. Construction sites dotting the area bring interesting possibilities for infantry to hide in elevated positions, spot vehicles, and take them down by mortar or RPG.

BRIEF> INFANTRY FOCUSED COMBAT IN SUBWAY

FICTION> HEAVY FIGHTING IS EXPECTED AS U.S. FORCES PUSH TO SECURE THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT IN CENTRAL PARIS. RUSSIAN ANTI-AIR EMPLACEMENTS IN CHARDONNAY PARK ARE LIKELY TO BE THE FIRST TARGET.

NIKLAS ÅSTRAND’S DESIGN THOUGHTS: Operation Métro is the map from E3 and the Open Beta, so some of you are familiar with it already. It is a map that perfectly illustrates that we want to take our players on a journey. Especially in Rush, you can see how Operation Métro is almost three maps within one: You start out in a lush park, then move into a bombed-out section of the subway tunnels, to finally emerge in a dense urban environment outside the Paris stock exchange. It’s a map that asks you to constantly adapt your class and load out for the diverse situations you will find yourself in.

                                WORKING TITLE> HIGHWAY
                                DICE INTERNAL DESIGNATION> MP003
                                SUPPORTED GAME MODES> ALL
BRIEF> INFANTRY FIGHTING IN TIGHT CITY STREETS

FICTION> A FIGHT FOR CONTROL OF ACCESS ROUTES NEAR TEHRAN. U.S. FORCES MAKE A PUSH FROM THE HILLS UNDER COVER OF DARKNESS WHILE RUSSIANS HAVE SET UP DEFENSIVE POSITIONS ALONG THE MAIN ENTRANCE POINTS.

NIKLAS ÅSTRAND’S DESIGN THOUGHTS: One of the inspirations for this map was a photo of a night time skyline of Tehran which now is basically the same vista that is available in the game. You start up on the hills above the city outskirts and eventually work your way into town. This atmospheric night-time map, where you can see rockets lighting up the sky, has a balanced mix between vehicle and infantry focus. It plays length-wise and starts semi-open with plenty of room for vehicles, but ends on a much more urban and tight note with less focus on vehicles and more on infantry.

                                WORKING TITLE> BASEJUMP
                                DICE INTERNAL DESIGNATION> MP013
                                SUPPORTED GAME MODES> ALL
                                BRIEF> FIGHTING IN WINTER MOUNTAINS

FICTION> A RUGGED MOUNTAIN AREA PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN DECIDING WHETHER RUSSIAN OR U.S. TROOPS ARE SUCCESSFUL IN COMBAT OPERATIONS IN THE SECTOR, AS THE AREA IS HOME TO KEY RADAR INSTALLATIONS.

NIKLAS ÅSTRAND’S DESIGN THOUGHTS: Damavand Peak, internally known as Base Jump, is built on the idea that we want players to be able to base jump, and features our most extreme height differences ever in a Battlefield map. Attackers in Rush and Squad Rush will start high up on a mountain ridge above a mining facility. The only way down into the valley is to somehow make the 500 meter descent. The further the attackers progress in the map, the more vehicle warfare will be present. There is also a large tunnel section dug into the mountain side at the bottom of the map, and the view when you look up at the starting location is spectacular.

Come back tomorrow for the remaining five multiplayer map reveals.
