So even on night maps it equals useless, PLUS how many night maps they have?? One?
I agree with you but a bit less strongly. I think it SHOULD have been nerfed. BUT not THAT much...it went from 100 to like 25... could have been 50 or 60 for example

Played some Conquest tonight and decided to cap it off with a few rounds of TDM, just for fun..

Last game I went 17-4 and went on a little tear, at the end. I was up on the roof of a building with my f2000 and eventually ran out of ammo.. so I shot a few rounds at a dude below me with the M9 to lure him into the building. Of course, he comes barreling into the building and not checking his corners so I run up behind him and take his tags and SVD. I swap to the pistol and use his grenade to drop a guy running in through the backdoor and then I take his AK74 and proceed to take out three more guys trying to come in the building.. I run back up stairs and drop to the shadow and another runs past me and I took his dog tags and then got shot out on the roof.

I would have loved to had it on video..

          Re: Battlefield 3

I'm slowly getting better. I'm getting to the point where I might not totally embarrass myself playing with you guys (I still have flashbacks of the constant ownage on Halo 3). So I might look to join an OS group sometime.

This is my first game of the military sim genre, and I am really enjoying it. I think overall, I like it better than the Halo series just cause of the reality of scenarios and the maps. The leveling of the different classes and guns inside the class is both fun and frustrating. I just unlocked a new weapon in the support class, and I am going to have to start the slow grind to get workable attachments. But that is more of a gripe that I am not a very good player than game mechanics.

Been watching some of the videos the PC guys are posting on tacticlegamer on the teamwork component. Pretty damn cool and effective.

Noob here. Need some serious help fellas...lol

            I SUCK.

            Just starting out...

            4 Conquest matches
            1 kill (with a knife)
            5 deaths
            Zero victories

I've been dead last in points everytime.

I don't know WHAT THE HELL I'm doing out there. I literally run around like a chicken with its head cut off. Then I said eff this, i'm going to get my *** handed to me trying to go in guns blazing. So I started to use only RECON.

So I find a nice secluded spot, and TRY to kill anyone I see. Most of the time I just keep an eye on my teammates and TRY to pick off anyone. But whenever I pop someone THEY NEVER DIE.

How many shots does it take!? I am literally popping dudes 3 or 4 times and they don't go down. And im pretty sure that im hitting them, as there is blood spewing with my shots. Maybe I need a stronger rifle? If so, how the heck do I get it!? Lol

On top if that, how do you get more ammo if you run out? I am a very inefficient shot. Lol. So I'd end up running out and being left with nothing but a pistol. So I just ran around the map for a good ten minutes trying to find some more. To no avail.

Any advice would be helpful because this is my first time playing a shooter online, and I know its a blast once you become at least somewhat proficient.

Recon is probably the worst class to use as somebody new to Battlefield. In this case I would suggest support. A good all around character that can heal. By the way, not all sniper rifles are 1-shot kills and I know the starting sniper rifle is very weak.

You get more ammo two ways: 1) picking up a new kit from a dead body. This switches you entire kit, not just your weapon. So for example if you're support and then you pick up an engineer kit you no longer had any of the equipment you spawned with. Instead you gain everything that dead enemy had. 2) you can also get ammo from teammates who play the assault class. Typically they drop ammo packs on their own but you can request one from them by placing your crosshairs on them and pressing back/select.

As for not being able to get a kill, this game has a different learning curve than other shooters of its kind. I'm not saying it's harder to play, it's just different. Because of those differences it can be hard to pick up the game and play it well like you might expect to do with a certain other modern combat game.

Only time will help you become slicker with the guns but until then, focus on doing what you can to help teammates. Drop med packs if you're support, ammo packs if you're assault, blast tanks with rockets if you're an engineer. Always spot enemies (by pressing back/select) and enemy vehicles/aircraft. If you're playing rush do your best to defend or attack the objectives, in conquest you need to assist in capturing and defending the three points. You can get a ton of points from doing all of this without registering a single kill.

edit: oh yeah, if you're an engineer you can repair tanks and aircraft. Press right on the d-pad to select the repair tool. If a teammate is inside the vehicle and you repair, you get points for it.

Dude, this was SO me when I first started. Basically all I did was I just kept playing until I understood the maps/classes/objectives and now I'm at the point where I know what I'm doing to an extent.

If you want to play as recon, just keep racking up recon points until you can get the MAV. By that time, you'll probably have unlocked enough weapons/attachments so that you can find a setup that really works for you.

So basically, keep grinding. Playing with OS guys helps, too

Agreed, this video is very, very helpful. It's for Bad Company 2, but it mostly all applies here.

                      Re: Battlefield 3

I've been hooked on COD since the first demo came out on the PC. I finished all of the COD games so far (and their expansion packs) and I loved every minute of it until recently.

That's when I started to feel like I was on a human hampster wheel. Without vehicles and destructable enviroments COD doesn't have enough variables to keep me interested and for some reason it's not very memorable. I can play for 4 hours and the next day I can only remember a few kills because they all blend in with the kills before them.

For me battlefield is a game that my friends and I can talk about months later. I can remember almost every xcom station that we took out last night and how it happened and that makes a huge difference to me.

                      Anyone else feel that way?

Here are some general tips that's not really covered in the video:
                              • If you see an engineer repairing their tank or vehicle, don't hop in and drive away. If you jump in, jump in to provide cover fire from the main gun or press X (ps3) to switch seats. If you were in the main gun hop out again once the engineer jumps back in so he can take his driver seat.

                              • Don't be the 6th sniper on the same rock. If you like the recon tools, choose an automatic weapon or shotgun with your recon class and move up with the rest of the team. The front line needs bodies. Stay out of harms way if you need to and place the radio beacon in a secure spot near objectives so your squad can spawn closer to the action.

                              • If your squad dies near an objective and you are still alive. Stay down and keep alive if possible. Allow your squad time to spawn on you before taking on the objective yourself.

                              • Don't take a vehicle to get to a sniping position. Walk. Vehicles are a valuable asset.

Edit: One last tip: Slow Down. Think before you move. The game rewards a well thought out plan.
