I don't know that I love barrel-rolling helicopters. And I don't like the flight controls either. How can I do a roll in the F-22? Seemed to me that you couldn't.Comment

Re: Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
Those controls were tight and felt "just right"... this almost feels too "Afterburner" now. Hard to describe.
Just does not have the same Ace Combat feel to it like it once did.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Not the dizzy part... but the gameplay being "faster" ... feels too sped up and more "arcady" ... idk!
This game never was a "sim", but when it was more "authentic" with the flight, it sucked you in. I am having a hard time being sucked in cause it is too "twitchy" in flight.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

I think that is what is bothering me about it...

One more thing that really, really bothers me about this demo- regenerating health.
I don't like where this is game is going, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.Comment

Re: Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
I feel the same way. I just dont feel the connect with this one. I have played them all and loved them, but I think I may pass on this one. I really don't like the new Dog Fight Mechanics or any of the new arcade stuff. I also not a real big fan of it being in the real world. I cant remember the name of it right now, but I always like the story line with the ficntional world and the war that has been goig thru most of the past games.
Feels like CoD in the air now.
I will wait and see though when the final hits.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
Thanks for this bit of info 3nD. This certainly improved my enjoyment of the demo after making this switch. Feels like Ace 6 with a greater sense of speed.EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment

Re: Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
The demo was pretty tight. It seemed easier to lock onto targets. More arcady. But for me I liked this better than previous versions. I may have to fire up Ace Combat 6. It has been a long time.Comment

So Ace Combat gains a contemporary sheen, borrowing the structure and style of the most popular current combat games. In doing so it adds new variety and, thanks to the multiplayer component, longevity.
Long-term fans of the series may argue that it has lost something too in the concerted attempt to mimic Western designs and style. But the losses are skin deep, certainly when compared to the most recent releases in the series. Under the hood, Namco's designers have upgraded the series' engine and mechanics in effective and interesting ways, making this the strongest Ace Combat in a decade.
The campaign lasts around ten hoursAssault Horizon can be a frustrating experience at times, but when things are going to plan - when you've waited to the very last second to pull off an evasive manoeuvre or taken out two bogeys at once with a few well placed missiles - you'll be left with an intense feeling of satisfaction. It's simply a very cool game, and Namco Bandai should be praised for taking a series that some would have considered unapproachable a few years back, and making it relevant again.
But we forgive it these small irritations, because aerial combat has simply never been this exciting. For that reason, we give no pause in recommending it even to those who aren’t fans of the genre. It’s just a bloody fun game.
Adding some of Modern Warfare's gritty realism gives the Ace Combat series a shot in the arm, while its arcade accessibility and enjoyability remains intact.
Uppers
• Good variety in the gameplay
• Impressive battle realism
• Arcade playability
Downers
• Cutscenes are clichéd and unpretty
• Dogfights go on too long
• Not much replay value in single player
