Not at all, completely unconnected to the first two games.

This is the first BioShock I've ever played, and it's one of the best games I've ever played. I'd definitely recommend getting it.

Edit: Also, meant to add, if you get it for PS3, the first BioShock comes on the disc with it.

I'd say pick up bioshock 1 and 2. I'm playing through both before I play infinite and I just finished the first Bioshock. Terriffic experience, one of the best games I've played, up there with the Mass effect storyline. Although the games aren't connected to each other I thought I would be fun to play through all three games because I've heard such great things about the series, and so far it's all been true.

Just finished it. What a ride. For those saying you don't need to play Bioshock 1 before you're correct, but if you have you get something extra out of it because the game goes in ways you don't expect from playing the original.

          Spoiler

I didn't find the combat that repetitive, but I played it on hard. Get careless against a few guys or a single Patriot and you're toast within seconds. I had Booker speced towards shocking everyone (shock damage when hit, shock damage when killing someone with excessive damage, and chain lightning) so by the end up the game I had whole mobs of guys stunned which was fun.

The gameplay isn't as fun as something like Deus Ex: HR or Dishonored, but the atmosphere, characters, and storytelling were top notch. Probably the best single player FPS experience for me since Half Life 2. It surpasses the original Bioshock IMO because the combat is way better.

I got this at home still in the shrink wrap. Lol. Not sure yet but between the mass amounts of good reviews, you guys praise and my CPU build running into a issue I may just leap then sell my tombraider and bioshock code for PC on eBay.

I'm in the minority on this one. Just thought it was very bleh throughout and was just thinking "is it over yet?" about half way through. I cant think of one time while playing that I thought "oh that was pretty cool", etc. Glad I rented it rather than buying it, definitely wont pick it up to play again like the original.

To me, this is an example of a game being carried by its name and previous titles rather than being totally separate.

Several parts of the song are fundamentally wrong. Andrew Ryan wasn't right wing he was Libertarian which on the political spectrum is up not right. His entire philosophy was close to Ayn Rands which was one of the main inspirations for his ideology. The only extremists in Rapture were actually Left Wing Extremists and they only presented themselves in Bioshock 2. He also didn't abandon people to metaphorically drown and did many things to help them as shown in the book and game.

The Slaves Obey line did not mean he believed in slavery as the song indicated. The point was the difference between a real person and a slave was that a slave blindly follows what they are told while a real person chooses what they will do.

Andrew Ryan also didn't create the player Fontaine did. It was also Fontaine and Sofia Lamb that ran the city into the ground and drove it to the point where it currently was.

Andrew Ryan wasn't the only one who made the little sisters and he even considered their creation an abominable act.

Andrew Ryan also wasn't a totalitarian believing everyone had to do what he said. He actually believed the opposite and encouraged people to think and act for themselves.

On some technical notes there is much the player can recall after he crashed the plane into the ocean. He had an entire set of memories crafted for him.

So like I said, catchy but written by someone who clearly didn't get it or bother to read any of the countless articles by people who did get it. Or the book.

                    Re: BioShock Infinite

Okay, so I'm not going to give a big long review, or my explanation of the ending.

This game was fun, no doubt, but the gun battles began to feel cumbersome and some of the tasks that you are required to perform seem tedious and don't really progress the story. Also feel like this game doesn't do as good of job as really immersing you in the environment, or making it feel like you being in the air mattered. Felt like this was done much better in the first game.

In regards to the ending, it had a ton of potential and is still relatively solid, but I feel like the huge OMGZ moment gets watered down by everything being thrown in your face at one time and it could have been executed a lot better.

Definitely prefer the first one, gameplay and ending over Infinite but still would give it an 8 out of 10.

Playing through this now and I find myself enjoying the game much more when I am just walking around and taking in the sights and sounds of Columbia. Not enjoying the gunplay or general "gameplay" as much as I would like.

Of course I have become jaded lately when it comes to gaming and I am in a weird funk. But damn if Columbia itself is not unbelievably interesting to explore. Fantastic design and detail went into it. I'd be happy with a no-combat RPG set in it where all you do it interact with the world.

Again, I am a jaded gamer as of late.

I liked the combat but also felt the same way. I would be totally fine if there was no combat in Bioshock Infinite. Just experiencing Colombia as a citizen/visitor would be great in my eyes.

Then again I've had shooter fatigue the past few years so anything that tries someting different would excite me. Exactly why I'm looking forward to games like Gone Home.

I upgraded my crows to when I kill a enemy with them it automatically lays a crow trap. Before I went to work I has this battle with a bunch of dudes. I layed a crow trap in the middle of them then used the regular crow attack while the trap went off. It killed like 4 of them which laid more crow traps that went off on the reinforcements which killed them and laid even more crow traps. There were so many crows everywhere and they just slaughtered everything without me barely firing a shot.

                            So awesome!!!!

I totally understand where you are coming from but to me I am of the opposite opinon. Columbia is creepy and vile. It is like traveling to the pristine Nazi retreats in Germany during the second world war. Whilst no one can deny the beauty of the scenery, once the connection of the retreats is made with Nazism it would change everything for me.

I am certain this is one of the strongest points the game makes. The blatant and overt advertising of Comstocks beliefs are directly reflected in the manufactured beauty of Columbia. It is an exclusive utopia for people who find his beliefs beautiful or truthful.

Dont get me wrong I am certainly not saying that anyone who enjoys exploring Columbia is of the same mind as Comstock. Not at all. But I do think this is part of the brilliance of the Bioshock games. The worlds are displayed as shining utopias but are really cracked and sinister dystopias. The scenery is designed to fool.

I find Columbia pulsing with evil and it is an uncomfortable place to knock around in. Again, this is typical and brilliant of the Bioshock series.

That’s actually the reason I enjoy exploring Columbia so much. As the player I know it is all a façade. The veil is lifted and I find it really intriguing and interesting to see how the developers masterfully created this world with that in mind. It is overly beautiful and pristine, kind of like The Magic Kingdom, giving it a surreal, constructed quality with a heavy dose of eeriness layering over everything. I love exploring it because of that.
