In the first Bioshock you could tell immediately that things were bad. First thing you see is a splicer brutally killing someone. Also the ominous, dark, underwater environment felt chilling and messed up as soon as you stepped off the bathysphere.

In Infinite, the environment is bright and colorful. It seems a bit off, but the citizens appear to be normal and courteous. The first scenes involve a religious setting with soothing choir music and a baptism.

The introductions are completely different, yet the same. Regarding how suddenly intense it got

I didn't think it went from 0-77 too quick. But then again, I probably spent a couple of hours just walking around exploring everything at first.

Personally, I thought the beginning of Infinite was pretty ****ed up and chilling, from the lighthouse, to the strange religious wading pool, to the "welcome to Columbia" flume ride. It might not have been Thunderdome like Bioshock, but it was certainly not peachy.

brilliant article written by Jim Sterling on Destructoid today. It discusses the theme of violence and its necessity to the overall narrative of Columbia and Bioshock:I. You'll also learn what ludonarrative dissonance is!!!

This is a rebuttal to many gaming critic's (playerss and journalists alike) asinine assumption that the violence prohibits B:I from being as close to a work of art as videogames can currently accomplish.

Just do yourself a favour and stay away from the depressing comments section. Gamers nowadays have absolutely no perspective.

Ditto. It was maybe 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours before I shot someone who was trying to kill me. My Left analog was never fully depressed unless it was in combat. 80% of that game I will remember as the 'most visually stunning fps so far'

VDusen04> I hope that inspires you to play the first 2 as Rapture is every bit as visual as Colombia.

However, unlike B:I where Elizabeth is the main focal point of the story and your essentially tagging along for the ride, Rapture the city itself is the main character of the original 2. Especially in B1.

Honestly unless they patched 2, I'd only play 1 and I, 2 was a forgettable mess when I played it around the release. Patches might've fixed it but there was also a bug where you couldn't use plasmids (essentially vigors) and it was fairly permanent. That and it really wasn't all that impressive story wise, as far as I was concerned.

1 and I though, are fantastic.

Just finished my second playthrough, going to do a third to sweep up the last of the achievements than let it go on the shelf for a while, until some DLC comes out, phenomenal game though! 1999 Mode got brutal at the very end.

Edit: Obviously it's just my opinion on 2, I didn't care for it.

For those that have finished the game. If you miss upgrades / voice boxes, are you allowed to go back through and get them at the end of the game?

Are you referring to the voxophones? Of which there's 80 to find? If so, you can go back and find the missing ones after you've beaten the game.

Thanks, sir. I'm definitely a little excited to give the first Bioshock a run.

Yeah, primarily that, and the upgrades if you don't get them all.

Confused at your answers gentlemen. They are conflicting. Can you discuss / explain or can someone else help explain? Seems there are times you can't go back, but then at some point it lets you back track, but I'm not that far along at this time.

Err, pretty sure you can't go back once the game ends, unless I missed something.

Yeah my fault for not clarifying. I beat the game having collected 68/80 voxophones. I think my 68 voxophone finds were saved to my user. When I began the story again, I wouldn't get credit for the voxophones I already found. But when I found new voxophones (aka one of the 12 I missed), I'd get an overlay like normal that'd say "69/80 Voxophones Discovered" or whatever it is, even if it was just the fifth one I'd found during the new story.

Basically, the storyline saves are separate from your discovery saves. The same holds true for nearly all achievements. For instance, on my second go-around I began unlocking weapon achievements left and right (from the kills in my first story combining with the kills in my second). Sightseer locations also carry over, but I'm not sure about infusions.

It wasn't until I got near the end of the game that I realized the usefulness of the skylines during combat.
