    Figures....

Hopefully we get some real info soon. I hope they don't plan on leaving us hanging for months with just the trailer.

What about the map of Los Santos that was leaked last week, did they confirm that was definitely a fake?

I was perusing the GTA Forums and saw this before people posted it here, and the original artist came out and said that it's the second time a specific poster took some artwork of his and claimed it to be part of the actual game somehow.

In short, not only is it fake, but it wasn't ever even meant to be passed off as authentic until a third party stepped in.

They probably overdid it in some ways (though I must say the storyline was definitely the strongest and one that if adapted well would make for a helluva movie.

I think they're going to go back more to their roots with GTA5 and poke around the more grittier aspects of the material and keeping a somewhat light touch to it with subtle satire that makes the player laugh rather than make them overburdened by the subject material.
I have no idea where people got this idea that GTA IV was "gritty" or ultra-serious. If all you're going off is the first trailer, then that would make sense but there is some big revisionist history going on with that game. Republican Space Rangers, Two guys hosting a tv show in a men's bathroom, Lazlo, Brucie, etc were far from serious and the Ballad of Gay Tony added the parachuting that people were whining about. GTA IV still had the rampages and crazy stuff that happened in all the other one's, it just looked much better than the other games and had more realistic physics.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

GTA4 was a lot more grounded than the previous games. I think people throw around the "gritty" and more serious labels because that's how Nico was.

I think its because of the realistic nature of the graphics. If you look at saints row, its more cartooney, etc whereas GTA IV was aiming at making people and the city look "real". You are correct though, people act like this game was a serious "drama" or something but it was still pretty crazy.

That show was one of the few times I laughed until I couldn't breathe while playing a game.

Fresh Tendrils basically said what I wanted to say but I will add that the game while it had those crazy LOL type stuff and some of the characters weren't exactly serious the game still had an atmosphere that grounded it with a reality we all can at least come to terms with and say "that's close to reality" whereas a game like Saints Row is so far out of whack with reality that it's like a pinball world come to life.

A lot of the grittiness of GTAIV was fueled by the way Niko was portrayed. Rockstar did an amazing job of having the story's focus flow through the worldview and personality of Niko Bellic to the point that some of the crazier elements seemed positively tame because Niko was so serious a character.

Niko Bellic accidentally went to Los Santos instead of Liberty City.

For what it's worth, T2 released their 2012 lineup and GTA V wasn't on it. If it helps at all, they're probably just keeping their street date for this game really close to the chest. There's a good chance it will be out next year IMO.
