Those images look like either an older Capelli or James Grayson........I'm leaning more towards Grayson.

A batch of stunning Resistance 3 screenshots recently hit the web, but those pretty pictures of Insomniac's upcoming PS3 shooter are a mere glimpse into the harrowing world that's awaiting new protagonist Joe Capelli. Our exclusive cover story is stuffed with never-before-told info on the new hero, the brutal Chimera-ruled world, changes to gameplay, and even a glimpse at new weaponry and threats.

          Re: Resistance 3

          Some info from Game Informer:
          • The Essential Plot Info: The world has gotten a lot colder. It's like an ice age. Capelli is the main character, he has defected from the military and started a family, and Hale is really dead. Capelli decides he must head to New York, where he will somehow be able to save humanity as well as his family (his son is ill due to the freezing cold temperatures) with a vaccine developed by none other than Fyodor Malikov. Malikov developed the vaccine using antibodies from Hale's blood. He will travel with Capelli on their journey to New York.

          • Humans have turned to cannibalism due to lack of food.
          • No more separate 8 player co-op, but the game will feature 2 player co-op in its single player mode. The 2nd character will not be a random soldier. His name is John Harper.
          • Everything about human weaponry has become much more ragtag and improvised.
          • Human weapons are essentially random pieces of scrap metal combined to form guns, sort of like the weapons in Fallout 3. The "Mutator", for example, is a shotgun barrel taped onto repurposed metal that fires a biological agent and makes Chimera freak out so you can kill them easily with a real shotgun.
          • The frag grenade model is a can of beans with nails strapped around it.
          • The weapon wheel is back! Capelli can carry all the weapons at once.
          • AI has been improved. Chimera can now jump over waist-high objects and climb through windows without Insomniac having to script each action individually.
          • No more 60 player multiplayer fights. The team wants to make online play more organized and less clustered.
          • Weapons are upgradable like in R&C!
          • Bullseye, Magnum, Shotgun, Auger and Carbine are all coming back.

Digging the darker atmosphere. R2 was good, but at points seemed a bit too cheesy in terms of the plot. This is looking like it will have some teeth in it (no pun intended).

I can't wait for this, one of my favorite franchises this generation and I agree that R2 did stray a bit off course.

                ...

                Nowgamer: Eyes On

Resistance 3 will feature a number of additions to its arsenal, as well as proper iron-sights – surprisingly, a series first – and an upgrade system that rewards players for effective use of individual guns.
Perversely, the most radical change Resistance 3 is making to the established formula is also the one element that Insomniac is keen not to shove in players’ faces. By adopting the first-person, in-game storytelling established in Half-Life and its sequel, Resistance 3 will offer depth and nuance in direct proportion to how much attention you pay to the details.
                ...

The atmosphere is reminiscent of the friendly stations in Metro 2033, full of telling details and revealing conversations, but only for those with a desire to take it all in. Resistance 3 is still an action game first and foremost, but this time Insomniac wants to give you more.
Another facet of Resistance 3’s more focused and detailed story is a more intelligent use of pacing. Players simply won’t have the chance to look around and drink it all in if they are constantly besieged by enemy forces, which was often the case in the previous two games. This time, however Insomniac has deliberately conceived set-pieces that allow for periods of inaction or down-time – concepts that are used very effectively in games like Half-Life 2 and Modern Warfare.
While multiplayer details for Resistance 3 are a little limited we were given a few clues as to what to expect. For a start it was suggested that 60 players was a little over the top for multiplayer and that very few people actually took advantage of such numbers in online games.

Insomniac also described MP as progression based, offering upgrades and unlockables as you level up. Then there were the maps, which will all be unique to the multiplayer game and set all over the world. No settings from the single-player will be repeated in online play.
                Interview

We’re bringing back two-player co-operative mode through the campaign for Resistance 3, which you can play split-screen or online. We had a very vocal group speak up when we didn’t have campaign co-op in Resistance 2, and there is something very special and unique about playing back-to-back with your buddy through the campaign. There will be several unique co-operative mechanics to allow you to assist and rescue your co-operative partner that won’t exist in the single-player campaign. The second co-op player will play as a character from Haven, Oklahoma, Capelli’s adopted hometown where Resistance 3 begins.

                  Re: Resistance 3

Sounds like this is what R2 should have been all along. Now that they are returning to the weapons from R1 and the wheel and co-op it looks like it will recapture the feel of R1. Hopefully online will have the same structure as R1 where it was easy to set up custom games where you don't have to use invites and just leave it open and let anyone join in.

When is this game coming out? I've been dying to play a good old fashioned well constructed and well paced solo FPS on the PS3 where everything isn't team based with objectives that's been all the rage the last couple of years. If they can make it more like Half Life then all the better.

                    YES!

I absolutely loved that game. The graphics were incredible, the atmosphere, as mentioned, is incredible. I would actually stand there listening to these conversations that didn't have any reference to your objective, but made the game more interesting overall.

If this game can just have that atmosphere, then I will defiantly love it no matter what. Especially if it has that Metro 2033 spook factor to it as well.

I dig how grim this looks. I think Insomniac is going to make up for the somewhat lackluster R2.

The game looks great. The one thing I hope they improve is how the camera would move when you start to sprint in R2. I always felt dizzy because of the way the camera would zoom in when sprint.

                                IGN Preview

Good news: Resistance 3 looks and plays like a game that's had a long development cycle; a year longer than Resistance 2, spent crafting new ideas, developing a rather spiffy engine and refining the solid gunplay foundation.

Joe Capelli from Resistance 2 takes lead role; set four years after the events at the end of the second game, Resistance 3 looks and feels noticeably different. 90 percent of humanity is gone; Capelli is a married man with a child – and he's on a trek from Oklahoma to New York. Why the pilgrimage? Insomniac is staying tight-lipped to that end.
Capelli, like most of the survivors, has been injected with antibodies to the Chimeran virus that Hale gestated – so the first thing I noticed was the lack of regenerating health. Cue applause. Great decision. Now you have a standard circular health bar at the bottom left of the screen-- and when you take too many hits, that's it, bucko. As a direct result, cover really does become so critical during encounters. Moreover, Insomniac has retooled its level design ethic. While still ultimately linear and guided by waypoints, The Haven was a great demonstration of how Resistance 3 is opening up each area of the stage.

I found myself no longer pressing down one corridor to the next, maybe breaking to shoot through a warehouse or yard. Instead, the Chimera were dumped en masse from dropships – and I was constantly surrounded. The world still retains the paused-1950s charm of Resistance 2, but everything is that much more eroded, making cover fragile and fleeting.
