    Ash (iPhone)

Ash is an original classical-style RPG being developed exclusively for the iPhone by independent game developer SRRN Games, which is probably why you haven't heard of it yet. It's out now! http://itunes.com/app/ash And also a demo: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ash-lite/

It's worth noting, for conflict-of-interest purposes, that I am a contracted member of the Ash development team for SRRN Games. Which is pretty cool in its own right, I think.

Anyhow, check it out in the links below (review by RPGamer, and the official game page at SRRN Games' recently-revamped website).

    Looks cool.

One question, what are the controls like? Is it easy to move around and talk to people?

To answer your second question first, my opinion is that the answer is very much yes. Elaboration follows.

We set out to design the controls to be as simple and intuitive with a touch interface as we thought possible. To move, one simply taps (or holds down) a location on the iPhone screen where he wants to move; i.e. to move north, the player taps or holds on a location north of the character. Interacting with the world is done by touching the object in question when you are close to it (that object could be a person, a treasure chest, or various other things). Visual indicators appear when the player is close enough to interact with such an object.

Going a bit beyond the scope of your question, but still related to controls: battles are a turn-based affair, where the most common action - attack - can be performed by simply tapping the enemy you wish to attack. Other actions, such as item use and character skills, require an extra tap or two, primarily for menu navigation (i.e. selecting which skill or item to use).

Finally, all game controls are explained by tutorial screens which show up the first time one plays the game, and these screens show up only as the one encounters each different situation (i.e. you won't be faced with every tutorial screen at once).

If you or anyone else has any questions about our game, feel free to ask.

This kind of sucks for me. I would love to play this, but I don't have an iDevice (gave away my iPod Touch).

Is there a shot that this could come to Android?

I won't say never, but we're definitely focusing on the iPhone for now.

The main issue at this juncture, from my perspective, is that we have no immediate idea how much work we'd be in for porting the game from Objective-C (programming language which all iPhone / iPad apps are written in) to Java (the programming language Android apps use). Well, that, and also none of us own Droids to test a potential ported game on.

Well, you could get a development N1, but yeah, I understand having to port it.

RPGFan was kind enough to preview our game as well, and it seems they like what they see so far.

Bumping this up because, as of 15 minutes ago, development of Ash has finished! It was hard work, but it's finally going to pay off, hopefully.

We've submitted to the Apple for approval to go live in the App Store. As soon as we go live (very soon), I'll be giving away one or two free download codes to anyone who might be interested. If you are, please PM me. Recipients of codes will be chosen at random should demand exceed supply.

Updated original post to include the just-released gameplay trailer.

To those of you who have PM'd me code requests: I have received them, but I'm holding off sending any out until the game is released in November. Thanks for your interest.

I can happily report that Ash is now available in the App Store! Please consider giving it a look if this sort of game strikes your fancy.

The latest macOS offers the world’s best way to play — and add to — your collection of music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, audiobooks, and more.

I'd send out codes now, but it appears the ones I was given have expired. Working on getting more from my boss if I can.

We got our first review in, from RPGFan, and they liked it enough to score it at an 87 out of 100!

Forgive my continuous posting on this, I'm understandably excited.
