Re: New Devil May Cry Announced

    Demo coming November 20

It'll contain two action-packed missions, one of which is a big ol' boss battle.

The demo will contain a few of the game's difficulty modes, including the remixed "Son of Sparda" mode, which becomes unlocked after one completion. You'll also have access to a variety of the game's weapon upgrades and maybe a couple secrets along the way.
Also, in case you missed it, we've just announced an add-on chapter, Vergil's Downfall, where you'll be able to play as Dante's brother Vergil in all-new areas, against new enemies, with a rich and very cool new moveset. I've seen some confusion floating around out there, so to reiterate some key points:

-This is all-new content, not just a DMC3:SE-style character swap.
-The add-on is not "day one"; it will come out sometime after launch of the game.
-The add-on is FREE to anyone who pre-orders DmC from GameStop (U.S.A.) or EBGames (Canada).
-If you don't pre-order the game, the add-on will still be available at the same time, but for $8.99/720 MSP.

I'm also very happy to point out that this content is not on-disc.

      This demo was ****ing AWESOME.

I should have some gift cards after Christmas, and this will be a definite day one buy. I'm completely impressed.

BTW, it's a nice little touch that triggering his demon mode makes him look like old Dante.

Co-sign. Thought demo was great and graphics were really top notch imo. I'm not a DMC vet so I had a little trouble getting off smooth flowing combos like I could in Bayonetta but practice will make perfect. On my radar...
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

DMC vet here and that demo was incredible. This game wasn't even really on my radar for release but this is a guaranteed Day 1 buy for me. Seriously download the demo!

I LOVED the demo. It felt a bit old DMC and a rebooted. The boss battle was pretty good.

I also really liked the way they re-wrote Dante's back story. I liked who his mother was. I also liked the whole V for Vendetta like broadcasts by the guy in the mask. I wish this would have been something to open on Xmas day

                  EDGE - 8

This, it was claimed after we first saw the new Dante, is a genre that could only truly be understood by Japanese studios, doomed to fail. What an overreaction that was to a makeover and some dubstep. This is the best entry in its genre since Bayonetta, and might just be the best game Ninja Theory has made to date.
                  Eurogamer - 8

The bigger disappointment is the rogues' gallery of bosses - particularly so given Devil May Cry's past form. Several are great visual ideas - but the fights themselves are uniformly disappointing, perhaps because they all feature obvious signposting.
So close. Ninja Theory has succeeded in revitalising a classic series, but DmC is almost a classic in its own right. Don't think too much about the lows, because the highs here are so very high, and show without question that Capcom has faith in the right developer. Ninja Theory has absolutely nailed the leading man and the combat system - by far the most important things - and DmC is clearly a labour of love, a tribute as well as a new beginning.
                  Destructoid - 9.0

Let's not beat around the bush. Those looking for hardcore action in the same vein of the previous four titles will be disappointed. DmC: Devil May Cry is easier. It's simpler. Chaining combos and gaining S ranks are not challenging at all, at least on the normal difficulty setting. It doesn't run at 60 frames-per-second on consoles. For some, the alteration of these elements will have killed the very essence of Devil May Cry, and to those people, I can only sympathize, because this game simply is not for them.

This is not to say, however, that every fan of prior installments shall walk away empty handed. Those who came to the series predominantly for its commitment to ridiculousness, its audacious sense of style, and a combat system that leaves them feeling highly amused, have everything they need for a fantastic time, and may find themselves favoring Ninja Theory's effort more than any other game in the series.
                  IGN - 8.9

The PC version of DmC won't launch until later in January, but the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions contain identical content. Though it should be noted, with a certain severity, that the 360 version is clearly superior in this pair. Its PS3 counterpart struggles to keep a steady framerate which is sadly characteristic of PS3 games running on the Unreal Engine.
                  Polygon - 8

The setting of Limbo is Ninja Theory's only major innovation for the Devil May Cry franchise, but it's enough to make this reboot worth it. The game's tone falls apart as it fluctuates between deadpan and dopey, but the action never falters. Fights are fast, intense and fun, and they're aided by a world where nothing is what it seems and nothing stays the same for long. I just wish Ninja Theory had matched the mesmerizing level design with a character who I actually want to spend time around.
                  Gamesradar - 4/5

                  YOU'LL LOVE
                  • The stylish combo-driven combat
                  • The top-notch level design
                  • Finding collectibles and testing your mettle in challenge missions

                  YOU'LL HATE
                  • The lack of enemy variety
                  • Imaginative bosses don’t test your skill
                  • Lackluster story feels like a missed opportunity
                  1UP - A

The combat and high production values deliver a worthwhile adventure, one that will hopefully serve as a meaningful introduction for more Devil May Cry in this new style. I realize that for some the transition to this new look has sparked a particularly nasty controversy, but put aside your preconceptions and you'll find that DmC stands as an exceptional effort by Ninja Theory to try and do something interesting with Capcom's well-known series. Now that I've finished it, I don't think the old Dante would have fit quite as well into this new style. If you're dead-set against the idea of a reboot, I doubt anything I can write will soften your heart. But if you're looking for an exceptional action game, DmC's depth, replayability, and narrative will keep you happily engaged for hours.

Wasn't the previous story ridiculously stupid and barely followable after the first game? There's a difficulty where you can only take one hit, that's not hard enough?

There's two complaints I agree with:

30fps instead of 60fps on consoles is a legitimate complaint for this style of game. It's not terrible, but you can feel the input lag in the demo, especially between weapon stance switches. Overall, the game isn't nearly as fast or fluid as its contemporaries.

Soft-lock instead of hard-lock can be a bit of an annoyance when you want to target a specific enemy in a group or a grapple point with enemies surrounding you.

The amount of hate towards this game and its developers has been both hilarious and sad to see though.

The developers have truly worked their magic with the often forgotten PC version of their latest title and DmC does in fact run at whatever fps that your PC can handle. Granted, it fluctuates a little bit more than the home console would, depending on various different factors that a PC gamer is more than likely used to by now, but there were times when I was playing when I was pulling in a whopping 100fps. I’m sure that there are people that can push it even harder but let me tell you, 100fps in a game that already looks silky smooth is absolutely glorious.

The visuals look better on the PC version of the game, with everything looking generally smoother than it does on any of the consoles. The biggest graphical improvement comes from the way that the Unreal Engine streams in high resolution textures. The Xbox 360 version that I previously reviewed seemed to have problems streaming in the textures in a timely manner, lowering the overall graphical experience of the title. However, the PC version doesn’t suffer from these problems at all, players will still be able to see textures streaming in but they won’t take nearly as long as they do on the Xbox 360.
