These two games alone should take me through the holidays into 2012. Looking forward to next Tuesday...
That's a great deal man, I'm probably going to go the trade in route for one of them, have credit on amazon for one, and I'll just trade in deus ex and dead island probably. These two along with skyrim will have me set gaming-wise for a long time.

I have to say I'm late to the party in regards to Demon's Souls, got the game over the weekend and I'm hooked so far. I've died so many times, I'm embarrased to say considering I've only beat the phalanx, armor spider, and have downed the red dragon, but I feel I'm getting the hang of it. There's nothing like dying a lot in an area, then going back to a less challenging area to build up your skills and gear, and then return to that area and dominate. This game definitely makes you pay for your mistakes, so that you learn from them. Unlike other games, I haven't become frustrated at all with dying because I feel like every time I die it's on me, which makes it feel like you've actually accomplished something when you bring down a boss.

As far as playing these kinds of games, do you guys use guides at all? I've heard that you should first experience the game without any guides, but I'm kind of on a time budget and I'm not all that familiar with hardcore RPGs. I'm def considering using one for Dark Souls though, but I feel like these type of games are overwhelming to say the least.

This is how I feel too. I like to find everything for myself.

I used the online guide twice during demon's souls. Once because I couldn't get past Flamelurker and the other to help me with the King Allant.

Guides are a last resort for me in games like this.

So true. These days even reviews are spoilers. IMO, if you need a guide to beat a game it really defeats the purpose.

Yeah, and in the case of Dark Souls or Demon Souls, you do not beat the game, the game beats you!

It is definitely the Soviet Russia of video games!

Yeah, that is the beauty of it to me. I think the last guide I used was in Nintendo Power for Zelda 1.

I see the value in not using a guide for reasons related to spoilers, defeating bosses, etc. but IMO using a guide aimed for beginners in order to give them some direction or general tips is useful since Demon's Souls is an imposing game especially if you have never played an RPG, or hardcore at that.

I never ever use guides until after i beat game. Then I use it to find stuff I missed in the first playthrough.
Single player is most important thing for me so i wont use anything to make it easier and finish the game faster.

They're also doing a 24-hour live stream of the game on IGN right now I think.
I don't want to watch though.

Never played Demon Souls. But I preordered this today.

The last game that I was really challenge by was Ninja Gaiden on Xbox. Is the difficulty similar to that?

I am sure I'll love it either way.

Which class will you start with?

I am leaning towards either the Warrior or the Wanderer. Both seem to be a good overall start for beginners. In Demon's Souls I picked Royalty because you had a bit of combat, speed and the soul arrow. Not so much in this game.

I am also attracted to the Thief since they get the Master Key starting gift that will open many chests in the beginning areas.

I am curious about two things: 1) If Dark is harder than Demon will one be a better Demon player after dealing with it for a while? I never finished the first one, my general Royal build only got me so far. 2) Will there be a way to "save" your progress by turning off your machine before you are dead? In the last one if you hit it right before the You Die screen finished you would start the game almost back at where you were. Will it work this time? Will the checkpoints be better?
