Your Shape Evolved.
If this "game" delivers anywhere near what it appears to, it might be the best example of the kinects potential as technology and not just a game console novelty. The detail of your presence in game and the detailed skeletal tracking makes this potentially a true training platform. The game is broken into three basic categories.
Games. I wish there were fewer videos of this part of the game and more of the other two parts. You can find a million videos of the block breaking game. I have seen, block breaking, hulu hoops, and a block balancing game. This looks like it will be great for those days where you know you need to exercise but don't want to do anything remotely like an exercise.
Personal Trainer. A few videos out on this but not many that are great on detail. The hype machine says it is just like having your own personal trainer with thousands of exercises that fit your intensity and goals. The skeletal tracking shines here. I have tried yoga via DVD but never know if I am doing it right. The feedback in the game tells and shows you exactly what you are doing wrong with an up to the second exact scan of your body. Men's Health and Women's Health have a deal to provide special focus exercise programs. Hopefully fairly priced DLC can keep new exercises rotating in.
Classes. This is the part I am most hopeful about, but I have found very few videos about it. The idea is that you can take various classes; I have seen mention of yoga, tai chi, karate, kick boxing, etc; with the onscreen instructor and instant skeletal feedback. Done correctly this could be huge for me. If this program can actually come close to teaching at least some form of things like karate and tai chi then I can trick myself into spending an hour "learning" something like that a lot easier than spending an hour doing random exercise after random exercise.
On top of that the game offers what seems to be robust online reporting and tracking outside of the 360. Having another hook into the program will hopefully help keep me involved.
There are quite a few exercise games coming out for kinect but most seemed to be more focused on novelty. This one and EAs Sports Active seem to be the most serious about exercise. I went with this one because from what I could find out, it just seems like the better all around program for what I am looking for. EAs game is big on the heart monitor that it comes with. Since that doubles the price of the game EA seems to be focusing on telling everyone about their heart monitor and not about the game itself.
