Re: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
The part where Drake's foot gets caught in the floor board was a nice touch. The fire looked amazing! Well, everything looked amazing.
Ah, Sully, good to see you, old friend.
Just one thing...
Was anyone a little distracted by Drake and his hunched back. Yeah, I know it's early, and due to the fact the building was up in smoke, staying low makes sense...Comment

Looks like they did a lot of work to the melee combat. I can't wait to play this, but you can tell there is still a lot of work to be done.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment

Re: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Fallon has done a lot of video game-related stuff on his show, which I think is pretty cool. I'm sure he doesn't devote the time to gaming like a lot of us do just due to the profession he is in but I don't doubt that he does play video games.Currently Playing:

Re: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Man I love Uncharted. What's funny is most games generally considered similar to it, I got easily bored with, but the Uncharted games are amongst my all-time favorites.
It's a different play than most other games I'm into, but I love the movie-like feel and fast pace. The new game is looking amazing. Can't wait!Comment

Re: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Oh my, Uncharted 2 is by far my favorite game ever made. A true masterpiece, I've been following the process of this game ever since it was announced to be in progress.
Uncharted 3 will be beyond our wildest dreams, mark my words.Comment

While climbing the walls of the French Chateau, Drake cosies up to an arched ceiling. In earlier Uncharted games this would be the end of the hero's ascent, but in Uncharted 3 Drake can propel himself upwards and backwards, making a daring leap that allows him to grab hold of an opening in the ceiling. Game director Justin Richman confides that this new ability would break half the climbing puzzles in the game's earlier instalments, but in Uncharted 3 the new, acrobatic moves give the player more ways to get in and out of trouble.
Richman also touts Drake's ability to traverse physics objects, meaning the hero will be able to climb, crawl and walk on things that are bouncing about willy-nilly in the game's world. This new ability comes to light when Drake makes a daring leap across a mutli-storey chasm onto a giant chandelier. The massive, dusty ornament swings with the momentum of his landing. Drake pulls himself to his feet while his precarious platform sways back and forth. His motion-captured movements, each reel or attempt to gain balance, feel real and organic.Perhaps the most welcome tweak to Uncharted gameplay comes in hand-to-hand combat. Drake's fisticuffs will take on the feel of a brawl. Justin Richman notes that Uncharted games have never delivered a bar fight – a staple in action-packed movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark. He promises that Uncharted 3 will be able to recreate a wild, cinematic fight scene leveraging the environment to add flavour to the encounter. If Drake finds himself pinned against a bar, he'll be able to pick up a bottle and use it to brain his opponent.
Deception's exploration of the Rub' al-Khali will feature "sand in all of its forms, drifting, blowing over the dunes, the displacement of sand, how it flows, sandstorms, mirages, heat haze—all that you would find in the desert," say its creators.
"Of course, we're not doing a whole game in the desert," says the game's director. "That's our ultimate destination."Of course, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is not just a pretty technical demonstration of wall climbing, fist fights and great looking virtual flames—there's a layered story underpinning this thing. That fiction explores the relationship between Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan, Nate's "lifelong friend, mentor and the closest thing to a father figure he's got," Hennig says.
"The bonds of this partnership are both explored and tested in Drake's Deception," Hennig adds, a sub-title that she says has "multiple layers of meaning." Expect a large cast of characters, friendly and not-so-friendly, in Uncharted 3.
Beyond that, Naughty Dog says it wants to compete "with the big boys" with Uncharted 3's multiplayer component, with cooperative and competitive modes returning in Drake's Deception. The developer didn't share specifics on multiplayer options, only promising it would "blow it out" for Drake's third outing.
At one point, the guards spot Drake and Sully and start screaming various things at each other. One guard runs in with a torch and sets a curtain on fire. Immediately, the fire starts spreading up the wall. It is important to mention that the fire is happening in-game (it’s not a cutscene) and it looks absolutely incredible.
...
The action in the burning chateau is so fast-paced -- and Drake and Sully are doing so much -- that you don’t even notice that the fire is spreading and constantly filling the level. It all happens so seamlessly that you really feel as if the building is burning naturally. It is pretty ingenious.Naughty Dog calls them “environmental touch points” and “additional contextual animation” So fancy!
Basically what this means is Drake’s in-game character reacts to things around him in very realistic ways. When he runs through a small hallway, he may reach his hand out to touch the wall. When he turns a corner, he may lean a little or grab a nearby object for balance.
Most impressive to me was the way he reacted to the fire. If Drake ran to close to flames, he would hold out his hands just like a person would to shield himself from the heat. In addition, he would sometimes cough when running next to a patch of smoke.
The devs say that only about half or possibly less than that is actually set in the sands. Just like Shangri-La in Uncharted 2, the fabled city is the end goal, and there's going to be a while lot in our duo's way.
See, there's a "clandestine order" that's trying to keep our buddies from reaching the mystical city, and they've got an evil leader that "threatens to conjure [Nathan Drake's] deepest fears." Sadly, this order and its leader didn't make an appearance in my demo, but the fact that we're talking about conjuring stuff up makes me wonder if nightmares or hallucinations will be the over-the-top twist Nate has to face (and that the Uncharted games are known for) this time around.

Re: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
It's the absolutely ridiculous amount of detail and little touches in the environments and movements of characters and objects that really makes this series stand above the rest. Not only does this series historically LOOK better than anything else available, but those tiny little details help to only further that distance more.
