Talk about validating the adage "strike while the iron is hot".

This is like when ABC decided to show Who Wants to be a Millionaire every day of the week. Dont ask me why I thought of that.

lol, Activision literally has nothing but WoW and CoD now, and they've already got at least 3 different companies working on MW3. It'll be out in November to the shock of no one.

If COD really wants to take that next step, they will make a future warfare game. I'm not talking about the year 2500 here, but rather something like what MAG did. Base it something like 20-30 years in the future. That way you're not bound by having to worry about making anything historically accurate. Which would allow the developers the opportunity to be more open minded and creative. You could have guns that may not really exist in real life but are realistic at the same time, while also mixng in guns that are currently considered newer weaponds such as the M29. And you could also be as creative with the story line and locations as you want. Something like this would be different, that not very many games have done before, it's either go way back in the past, or way in the future, not many games venture into that grey area. Something like that could appeal to many people, and restorE the COD brand to prominance.

Them taking the next step has nothing to do with setting and everything to do with the gameplay.

A cover system and destructible environments come to mind.

Exactly, if they had BFBC2 style distructable environments then the game would be perfect.

I am honestly tired of CoD every year, and I haven't bought any of them lol I have play MW I thought about getting MW2 but I never did then I was going to get Black opts again never did now they talking about another CoD game this November, I know it's a popular title but it's not a sports game where you drop another one each year. They really should rest this title for awhile then bring it out like next year or something.

As for GTA well I haven't gotten into very many of them since I am not much of an Open world (due what you please) type of person so I haven't gotten into many since San Andreas even then I watch my roommate play it more than I actually played it, but I've thought about picking up GTA 4 since it's like 10 bucks used at Gamestop. It is about time for another GTA to be released and not just some add-on or spin-off of the original GTA 4 title.

Well the thing that gives me hope for their upcoming game is Infinity Ward is just a Figurehead now, yes they are still a studio however basically all their key developers and executives are gone and are with Respawn entertainment with EA now.

So MW3 is really going to be mainly developed by Sledgehammer (single player) and Raven Software (multi-player). I agree MW2 had some major problems like One Man Army, Danger Close, over powered Shotgun secondaries, Commando lunging, Death Streaks. However there was nothing wrong with the Core Engine, the character movement was smooth, the connections were good. I never lagged as much in mw2 as I do in Black Ops..and the actual gun play felt right... I'm not talking about tubing... but if you shot someone with your Tar, or your Scar and you were on target they would die. In Black Ops sometimes it feels like you get a bunch of hit markers, they duck out and you get robbed of a kill.

Hopefully they learn from the mistakes of MW2 and keep out the ridiculous garbage like Danger Close, Commando, make Shotguns primaries.... and actually Support their game.

Am I the only one who thinks what needs to happen with MW3 is a longer, involved campaign? I know it is FPS sacrilege, but I haven't been able to justify a CoD purchase since 4. The past 4 games have basically been copies of each other with the setting changed, and a few tweaks to multiplayer and graphics. How much longer are people going to keep buying these?

Also, I guess the new theory with that countdown site is that it has something to do with a fan made movie.

The series needs a complete overhaul for me to be interested again.

In terms of campaign, it could really stand to move away from how script heavy it is, and introduce some dynamism and unpredictability to firefights. Call of Duty has been one script after another with AI that's practically non-existent. If that means having to drop to 30fps, then I'm all for it.

Multiplayer I think needs to be pared down - sometimes less is better. Destructible environments or a cover system would be interesting, but I would like to see some more advanced ballistics and weapon sway.

I doubt we see much changing, at least maybe not until Sledgehammer's game.

They could have had a cover system in CoD yesterday if they wanted, since Treyarch already made a fine one for their CoD engine Bond game in 2008. It worked great, but it probably will never be implemented into the CoD franchise because it would change the gameplay that the fanbase is used too.

Right, and I agree it has to do with the formulaic nature of the series. The point where I disagree is where you say never. Eventually, as has been proven time and time again, consumers will get tired. I know I am, others have said the same. This series as we know it isn't going to be around forever. Once sales start to decline, then things like cover and destructible environments trickle in during an effort to revitalize the series.

Changing the formula is the next step for this series, not changing the setting, which has been proven by activision to be something completely different.
