I'd say its about 60% Connection, 30% skill, and 10% luck.

Re: Modern Warfare 3 PS3/360
No the other team has the best side of lag compensation. That is why pretty much 95% of the games have a lopsided score.
I might come accross a game with a tight score once every 30 games if that.
Next time you play take the score of the next ten matches and see how many of them were close.
Again Mw3 is fun for me and I love the game, but I will admitt this game doesnt require much skills do to the fact that its easy to play.
In MW3 you have players calling you out if you use a sniper rifle the right way. "
Hardscoper you suck. Look at you looking hard through that scope, your garbage"
That is what you get when you use a sniper rifle realistically.Simply *Magic* Just click the link and Watch :)

Lag Comp is there but it's not worth bitching about. I will get a little upset when I get shot behind a wall, or in 2 shots. I have just stopped caring and quit playing like the last 2 days. It's fine with me to go do things outside instead of playing COD. It's like 50 degrees in North Dakota right now, breakin' records! lolComment

Anyway, you are basing way too much on connection or blaming TVs. To say it is just 20% skill is just sour grapes. Practice and figure out a better weapon setup or something, because you just are way off base.Comment

Re: Modern Warfare 3 PS3/360
aren't you the guy who made the TV thread? lol..I got a plasma last week and it seems like the input is exactly the same as my old LCd..I am not sure exactly how you test, but I use the Xbox in game mode.
Anyway, you are basing way too much on connection or blaming TVs. To say it is just 20% skill is just sour grapes. Practice and figure out a better weapon setup or something, because you just are way off base.
Now you must be under some impression that I struggle with this game, because I stated that this game is more about who has the connection on their side during a match than skill set. I dont struggle with this game.
I have skills im not worried about that. I also can play very strategic and is why Im very successfull in all game modes. I have a plan for each of them.
Shark played with me and my boys and saw how we dominated game after game after game after game, but we even realize how this game is about connection.
I just choose to say connection is the reason why teams win, and not as much to skills because when you play this game it is very obvious.
My win precentage is very high, so no I dont have sour grapes. Read more carefully. I never complained about mt experience. I mentioned how things changed for me when I upgraded, but never complained.
In Black ops where 10,000 kbps was the max bandwidth it would show on your connection speed. My kbps would read between 550 and 1,200. That is way below the 10,000 and I still maintained a 1.72 KD. Which to me is pretty solid under those conditions.
I would also ask players with a KD of 2.5 or higher what service they have, and they all have verizon fios. I dont know why but most not all but most players with Fios have a solid KD.
Connection means everything in this game, skills is 2nd. Im just man renough to admit it. I have skills trust me, but Im not going to say others out there dont. When I know the connection screws many of them.Last edited by Tyrant8RDFL; 01-04-2012, 03:55 PM.Simply *Magic* Just click the link and Watch :)

Re: Modern Warfare 3 PS3/360
Tyrant, using connection as an excuse is bull. My best friend is damn good at this game, and I'm pretty sure he has to steal crappy wifi from across the street. It is funny when people bitch about lag after getting killed, it's like the only time they die is because of lag, not anyone else's skill, so exactly how'd you get all your kills then?
I'm not anywhere near the best at this game, but I can acknowledge when I die it's not a matter of connection, as It's usually me getting shot in back for one, and in head on firefights it's a matter of skill. The dude blasting the other guy in the face is going to win over the guy trying to take out kneecaps, regardless of connection.
I've been playing online shooters for about 10 years, back to Medal of Honor, I've had all kinds of connections from dial up to cable, and my skill has been consistent. Connection plays a role for sure, but not anywhere near enough to say it's responsible for how good a player is. It's a matter of familiarity for one. When I went from dial up to broadband, my K/D actually dropped because how I had to compensate for the lag, or lack thereof. A good player can adapt to the latency and still dominate, a bad player will still miss easy kills, and then bitch about lag. Besides this game has lag compensation and auto aim to begin with, there's not a whole lot going on for you to screw up. Quick reaction, and reading the situation is pretty much all the skill you need.-Ohio State-

Re: Modern Warfare 3 PS3/360
Its not BS player, and if you read the ending of what I stated I made it clear this is not always the case.
It is the case for some people maybe not for you, but I have been on both sides of the fence. Where my connection had me behind others, and once I upgraded it my KD shot up.
I would finsh in the top 2 pretty much every singel time, and I came to realize that it was all in my connection. I alwasy had the skills and the right startegic approach, but my connection did not help, again till I updated it.
I even had players come to my house where they had over a 2 kd struggle big time when the played in my house. Again all this change with a upgrade to my internet speed.
So to you if want to think that your really some kind of special player with the tactics you use, and no one else plays that ways. Then feel good brother you deserve it
Take the same skills and stragedy with a ****ty connection , and then you come back here and tell me connection doesnt matter, becuase you play the game like a army ranger. Please give me a break.
I'm just honest to admitt that this game separtes players with more how the connection is distributed than the skill sets. This game is by far the easiest shooter anyone can ever play. Hitting your target is a joke in this game. Pretty much Everyone is accuarte in this game. Hit detection is horrible so imagine that with aim assist.
Your fooling yourself player.
When did I say I was a special player or an army ranger? When did I say skills is the only thing that matters and connection does not matter? All I said when I responded to your post that skill is a factor. In your original post that I quoted you said, "It's not who is better, but what team has the better connection is going to win. Skills is not really a factor anymore."
That sounds like bull to me. How can you say the game is not determined by who is better? So you're saying if you take a team of random players all who just got the game vs a clan, let's use an OS clan that if the OS clan wins it's not because they worked as team, had strategy, more experience, knows the maps better, it's because of a better connection? Do you really believe that connection is the only factor in that case?
My connection is probably average. Most games I have a good connection. I get the occasional game with a bad connection. That does not mean every time I have a good connection I magically do good. Is it easier with a good connection? Absolutely, but it still takes skills to get kills and win.
I'm just honest to admit that skills is a factor, and most of the time when I die it is because the other player is better then me, or had a better position on me, not because of connection.
How can you say it does not happen everytime?????????????????
It doesnt happen to you everytime, but for other it does!!!!!!!!
Great you have a solid connection and you're the best player because you plays the game like no other. You're the only one that plays the game with a strategic approach. This explains why you can still do well with a horrible connection and others cant.
You dug yourself so deep that you cannot get out of it, so you will stick to your guns about this skills crap.
MW3 doesnt have a difficult learning curve. This is one of the easiest shooter to play.
Again when did I say I was the best player?
What system do you play on?
No the other team has the best side of lag compensation. That is why pretty much 95% of the games have a lopsided score.

Hardscoper you suck. Look at you looking hard through that scope, your garbage"
That is what you get when you use a sniper rifle realistically.
I must be playing a completely different game then you. I see some lopsided scores as I've seen in any other shooter I've ever played, but I also see a good share of close scores. Sorry, I don't have a made up percentage to give you.Last edited by Buckeyes_Doc; 01-04-2012, 05:40 PM.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

I agree that skill matters. I have seen 3 bar connections destroy lobbies. Ask them and they will not agree about connections. It takes skills to navigate the map, memorize choke points, win most of your gun fights. I am no god of cod but there are plenty of times when I am clearly outplayed and I give the player, the benefit of the doubt. It takes skill to use a riot shield, it takes skills to get a Moab etc. I am an average player and skill has a lot to do with being a beast at this game. I knew people would hide behind corners and camp... Now people are hiding behind connections... smhComment

Re: Modern Warfare 3 PS3/360
I love guys who have to make a million excuses for every little thing in life.
I just fire up the game and enjoy it with my friends..honestly have not had any major issues.
If you are not winning, I guess it is a game that doesn't require skill.
I have a solid idea, go buy Dark Souls and play that. It will eliminate all your online issues and requires a ton of skill to complete.Last edited by Methlab; 01-04-2012, 05:57 PM.Comment

Re: Modern Warfare 3 PS3/360
Remember to look at what weapons people who are at the top at the scoreboard are using. More then half the time it's SMGs, FMGs, or quick firing shotguns... Pace of the game favors all three of those weapons, running around with quick aiming weapons and beating someone to ADS or not even using it.Comment

Re: Modern Warfare 3 PS3/360
You can't ignore that connection doesn't play a part in some cases.
I would love to see someone finish in the Top 2 on a 1 bar lol
As far as breakdown of percentages go its probably more like 65% Skill, 25% Connection and 10% Luck. There are games where I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, it happens. Everyone has a bad game here and there, it just happens.
Not trying to talk myself up or brag, but I used to be ranked nationally in MW2, had a KD over 2.5 and know all the maps like the back of my hand, but if you are NOT playing with a solid clan online, you will get beat, routinely, because you just can't guarantee that you are going to be teamed with anyone of any skill.
Perfect example that I came across yesterday. Playing KC on Village, I lead my team, went 48-5 and we lost. It definitely wasn't my connection, and it definitely had nothing to do with my skill. I know I was better than everyone on that other team, but I still lost, because I had 3 kids on my team that went 5-20 and barely had over 1000 points, meaning they weren't grabbing tags.
I've been on 3 or 4 bar probably the whole time that I've been playing MW3. On my MLG account my KD is over 3 and on my mess around account that I created in the OS Clan, it's like 1.6 and that's with playing with shottys and riot shields for the first 3 prestiges lmfao You can win on 3 bar, just get better. Chances are if you have a good connection and are getting raped, its not that their connection is better, and it's not because people are camping, it's because you're not that good.Last edited by 1Rose; 01-04-2012, 06:36 PM.Comment
