    Starhawk (PS3)

GTTV has the reveal, and everything points to this being Starhawk.

    ...

President of LightBox Interactive, Dylan Jobe (May 7)

The wait is over next Friday...
    ...

Rumored details leaked back in April:

    We spoke to a Sony employee who, understandably, wished to remain anonymous. He confirmed to us that a sequel to Warhawk is indeed real, having been in development for a number of years now. It's official title is 'Starhawk'. What follows are all the details we gathered;
    • Starhawk will be revealed before E3 2011 - in fact, mid May is the current date for the official public outing.
    • The game remains a PS3 exclusive. However, Starhawk will ship only on Blu-ray, rather being a digital title on PSN, and available as a physical disc, like Warhawk.
    • The main gameplay elements remain much the same. Starhawk is a third-person shooter, with jeeps, APCs, tanks, and now spaceships.
    • According to our source, you cannot fly from a planet into space. Some maps are set on a planet, with dogfights taking place in the air, while others are in space, with small areas for ground combat. The game is still set in another universe, so Earth will not feature.
    • The game will retain the slightly cartoonish visuals - no ultra-gritty reboot in sight.
    • Starhawk runs on a brand new engine that provides stunning visuals, explaining the jump from digital title to Blu-ray disc.
    • While the main body of the game is still online multiplayer, there is a single-player component.
    • Starhawk is the game Dylan Jobe can't wait to talk about.
Sony trademarked Starhawk back in 2009

Sony America has trademarked the name "Starhawk", adding weight to rumours that Warhawk creator Dylan Jobe's newly-formed LightBox Interactive studio is taking the series into space.

Loved Warhawk. Still play it sometimes (when the PSN is up and running of course.)

This part makes me even more excited...

Starhawk is the game Dylan Jobe can't wait to talk about.

      Very interesting..

I'd be okay with a spin-off of Warhawk

        re: Starhawk (PS3)

I know Warhawk is a game some people never were able to get into. I never had a PS3 but I got into it because of a friend. Lots of hours wasted on four-player online split screen, dominating servers until we got booted for being too good. I want to get a PS3 just for Starhawk so hopefully whenever it releases I'll have the funds to do so.

          1. I had no idea Warhawk was popular at all but I've been hearing about this Starhawk game like the first one was the beginning of a huge franchise

          2. It's funny that they'll announce a multi-player focused game with PSN being down for so long

I had Warhawk & I thought it was a pretty good game. Flying was a blast, doing fly-bys & gunning down foot soldiers. haha

Maybe the PSN will be back up right before the announcement will be made?

It is kind of funny though.

                    Starhawk - leaked screenshots

It seems that GameSpot accidentally released the first screenshots of Starhawk, but quickly removed the images. We were able to obtain most of the shots before they were removed.

Hmm, it's great they kept the cartoon-ish theme in the game. Too bad they didn't reveal if the planes will look the same or have changed.

For those that are curious as too how Warhawk played, I considered it to be a Sci-Fi battlefield type game. I played it a lot and they really patched it very good.

                            PS3 exclusive Starhawk announced

Starhawk, due out in 2012, is being developed by LightBox Interactive, the studio set up by Dylan Jobe and other ex-members of Incognito Entertainment, and Sony Santa Monica.

Warhawk launched as a Blu-ray and digitial download. Starhawk, however, will be released as a Blu-ray retail only. Unlike Warhawk, Starhawk features a fully-fledged single-player campaign as well as the multiplayer portion the series is known for.

Players assume the role of Emmett Graves, a Rift miner turned gun for hire altered by Rift Energy, found on the outer reaches of space. The enemy faction is the Outcast, humans turned into monsters following exposure to Rift Energy.

The game has a Wild West in space look and feel. Graves goes in search of his outlaw brother, the leader of the Outcasts. Levels are large and open, designed to offer dynamic gameplay with AI that adapts to the player's actions.

The gameplay hook this time is an RTS-lite element called "Build and Battle". As players kill enemies and other players they gather resources, spent on calling down structures from orbit and placed down on the battlefield as they see fit.

Structures include walls, gates, turrets and landing pads for vehicles. Structures can be demolished, too.

On the multiplayer side, Starhawk features 32-player matches, up to four-player online and offline co-op play, and split-screen gameplay within multiplayer and co-op modes against an endless attack of enemies.

The game supports tournaments, leaderboards, clans and additional friend list and quick matches. There's a community events calendar, ticker tape updates, and plans for a Starhawk Android app.

                            Gamespot

                            PSNation

A few other items that were discussed but not shown, the online features are definitely going to be the deepest we've ever seen on a PS3 game:
                            • Full Clan support (not just a tag)
                            • In-game calendar
                            • Cross-Server Clan Voice Chat
                            • A Fully Automated and Integrated Tournament System (we heard him say cell phone, but we're not sure if it was something in-game or not)
