We run 3 and 4 man coops in ARMA 2 about 3 times a week (Tonight we are attempting some ACE missions). I have over 400 missions on my system. This is one thing that has always made me sad on OS. Such a amazing simulation game such as ARMA is built for many of us like minded sim fans here on OS. I wish we could get 6 to 8 members from OS who will want to run together as a squad with missions several times a week or so. This is where ARMA shines.

I mean we have a good time running 3 and 4 man coops, but the more people the better.

Right now I downloaded the Lingor units and Lingor map in ARMA 2, I then downloaded 9 different Ghost Recon remake missions. I am dying to play them but it was designed for 8 coop players with no AI teammates.

I know you guys love the co-op, but how is single player with these missions? Is it still fun?

I like multiplayer, but don't usually have the time to commit to it...I need to give ARMA 2 more of a shot single player, but didn't know how it was...

I think ARMA 3 you'll end up getting your wish. I definitely will be buying that game and playing some Co-op

What is the average length of a mission from what you can tell?

Don't know how many people are playing ARMA 2 still, and how awkward it would be playing co-op missions with some complete randoms.

I like the singleplayer to, don't get me wrong. I played a mission last night by myself that was a SICK experience and it was just me. Once you really understand everything on HOW to control the game the friendly AI is much better.

For instance let me give you a idea of how this mission went last night.

I'm squad leader with 7 other marines under me. We are traveling by Humvee down a road to meet with a village elder. He has information of possible Al-Qaeda resistance locations.

As we are traveling down the road a explosion rocks the Humvee and we get knocked off the side of the road(IED blast). I order everyone to disembark the humvee. Right as everyone exits the snaps of rounds whizzing by comes to life.

I then order everyone to hit the dirt (Space + 3). At this moment is where knowing HOW to order your troops come in handy. A regular new ARMA player will then try and pick off the threat and leave his team in the standard formation. I instead go the much more "real life" method of dictating who is doing what.

I hit F5 which is to select my 5th squad member who is a heavy machine gunner. I see a low brick wall with perfect cover and good firing position. I order him to MOVE TO THAT LOCATION. Once he hits that location I order him to FACE direction SE (F5 + 7 I believe). I then tell him to supply SUPPRESSIVE fire in their direction (F5 + 7).

At this point he is raining lead down on the enemy and I can take control of my team like I need. I tell the sniper to move up on a ridge that is looking down in the enemy encampment. I then tell my other heavy machine gunner to take the other flank. I send my AT solider to watch the road in case a enemy vehicle tries to ruin our day. I then take the last remaining 3 soldiers and put them in diamond formation of me and tell them to mimic my stance.

At this point we push up into the encampment and start running all spec ops on the enemy while we have good over watch on our position by not only our sniper calling out targets but all heavy machine gunners for suppressive support.

To shorten the story, we easily pushed through this village and found out the village elder arranged a ambush. We were then ordered to push into a adjacent village and arrest this elder. Which broke out into a hell of a fire fight that took 45 mins or more. We only lost one solider (#7), so the execution was almost flawless.

Change this to the standard way most new guys play ARMA or think its how to play ARMA and they would of lost almost everyone in the squad or not come close completing it. There can be tons of micromanaging like real life entails or you can do none. It is really up to you and you can succeed on several missions with no micromanaging because the AI handles it self pretty decent, but if you really want to open up the game and all the possibilities you have to spend time learning the game in and out.

Reason I say all this, is because in multiplayer you can simply tell someone over the mic what to do. Team work is much easier, in singleplayer you have to learn all the controls of HOW to order your men.

It is not random, the only thing that throws many people off is the fact most are ex military and still follow strict protocols and orders. Go and grab a tank or helicopter you are not given orders to fly and you will quickly find yourself in a *** chewing and booted.

Now follow command and your orders and you are talking one of the most realistic shooters ever.

I say average mission length can vary hugely. I've played many that take 5 to 6 hours to complete. I've played some that take 30 min to complete. I say across the board the average is between 1-1/2 to 3 hours depending on size of battle and scope of mission.

              Re: ARMA III

See, and with those sized missions, I will not ever be able to get in a mission. As much as I'd LOVE to do it, even a 2 hour mission seems next to impossible with 2 little ones.

that scenario last night sounds bad *** Phobia.

I thinkit'd be extremely difficult to acheive that type of control with a 360 controller though, wouldn't it?

I turned on Steam last night to play the alpha code that GoFFs gave me, and Steam updated and said that the trial was done? I didn't even get a chance to boot it up. What on earth.

The game includes the same mission editor that the game designers use, you can literally make any mission you want, as long as you want, and style you want.

Trust me you don't have to do all the long 1-1/2 to 3 hours ones. Those are mainly large scale online ones. Then the really giant 5 and 6 hours ones are all day persistent online ones. The average 4 to 8 man coop mission is going to take 30 to a hour and half.

I need to start recording my missions and do like Dslyecxi does. I have well over 100 hours invested in ARMA 2. I wish I knew the exact number but when you launch the game from a ARMA launcher it does not record your time under the "steam" play time. So even though I own the game through steam it does not launch through steam so many won't even know I'm online playing.

I suggest everyone who is getting ARMA 2 or ARMA 3 go ahead and download this http://play.withsix.com/

It makes downloading mods, installing mods, and launching the game with mods extremely easy. Plus it has a friends list like steam, and server browser.

Be sure to check what mods are needed, if its only a singleplayer mission, coop mission, or campaign. Then make sure you install them in correct folder.

I then install all missions INSIDE a folder that has a readme in it, that I write what mods are needed for those missions. So for instance tonight, I'm going to open my Mpmission folder, find my ACE missions, then grab some missions out of it and move them to my mission folder. Now when I launch the game and go into multiplayer it will list ONLY those missions and not all 400, then I would be left wondering what mods do each of these need. Total cluster ****. Organize it right and its really easy to manage.

After the missions are complete, I go back in and move the missions back into the folder they were in. Ready for next time we play.

If you own ARMA 2 through steam your standard install path for missions will be here.

                    C:/programfilesx86/steam/steamapps/common/operationarrowhead/mpmission folder

I downloaded and am using the play with six. I've messed around with the editor but I'm such a total noob at the game in general I have neither the knowledge or the patients to design my own mission. I've checked around play with 6 but haven't seen anything specific. Is there a way to download created missions on Arma 3 alpha yet?

Edit: I see your above post and will check it out thank you. Is it available for alpha yet? I do not own Arma 2

You don't get missions through sixer, you only get the mods and how to launch game. You must manually download and install the missions.

I wouldn't mind doing hour long missions, and I love the fact that it feels like work, and you've accomplished something when the mission is over.

For the most part I think now most games on consoles don't interest me enough to even have enough energy to stay on, and just as WTF, I have limited time so it would have to count when im playing. I could easily be on the computer for 3 hours, 4 hours...for the most part on the weekends and even friday nights late.

I watched one of those dyslexci videos but he basically gave the arma controls for a keyboard and I moved on because i wanted to see some action.

What I mean by randoms, while its probably different than consoles, the guys online are guys I don't know...seems like some of these guys are in a group of friends.

WTF... you plan on buying ARMA2?

Ok, I'll walk you through how to install one.

                              Download this mission

                              Description
You are a member of the Delta Force. You begin in a blackhawk, you will be drop (in fast rope) in a street. You must find a Warlord (he has a gold AK) who is hiding in the orange area.

                              Installation:
Extract the .pbo file(s) to your ArmA2 Operation Arrowhead\MPMissions folder.

Ok, now at the bottom of page see where it reads

                              Requirments
                              - Advanced Combat Environment 2 OA - Core
                              - Advanced Combat Environment 2 OA - Extra
                              - ADuke's Helo pack - ArmA2
                              - Fallujah

This is the important part, mission won't run without the right mods.

Now open up sixer, go to the Mods tab. Click the Advanced Combat Environment one to highlight it. Then click the lower right search bar that says Mod select. Type in ADukes helo, when you find it hit ADD to SELECTED, it will now send that mod to link with ACE, then do this again with Fallujah. Once you have ACE, ADukes helo and Fallujah all added under same bracket, on the left side you should see a orange button titled UPDATE. Click to download those mods. Once down, you launch game, go into multiplayer, then hit new to create your own online server. When the missions come up, click on the fallujah map and under that map on the right will be the missions for that map. You will now see this mission you downloaded there.

Thank you. Can't wait to try later. Just hope it's available on 3...seems like you're talking Arma 2 here.
